50 for Chris Woakespublished at 17:04 BST 24 April

    Notts v Warwickshire 275-6

A very useful knock today from Chris Woakes, who passes 50 from 85 deliveries.

Warwickshire needed a batter in the lower order to stay with and support Ed Barnard out in the middle, and Woakes has carried out the task thus far. His half-century comes up with another drive through the off-side from the bowling of Liam Patterson-White.

This is proving to be a frustrating spell for Notts and a tricky partnership to prise apart in what is glorious sunshine and warm temperatures.

Allison lbw Fisher 40 (Surrey v Essex 262-4)

Surrey now in the ascendant at The Oval.

Matt Fisher finds a little bit of movement in off the pitch and umpire Martin Saggers - who knows a thing or two about lbws - says that is out.

Good innings by young Charlie Allison, who has been replaced by Michael Pepper - his last four innings were 16, 0, 0 and 9.

  3. 50 runs

50 for John Simpsonpublished at 17:01 BST 24 April

    Yorkshire v Sussex 274-5

John Simpson follows batting partner Tom Price into the half-century club.

The wicketkeeper is a dependable batter and that's his first 50 of the campaign.

Their partnership is now 124 as Yorkshire struggle to come up with a plan to remove one, or both, of them.

  4. wicket

    Dickson c Cox b Green 90 (Glamorgan 265-7 v Leicestershire)

Sean Dickson becomes the second Glamorgan batsman today to fall in the nineties!

Dickson has played beautifully this afternoon but now has to go.

On the drive, he edges behind to Ben Cox off the bowling of Ben Green.

Mason Crane walks to the crease for Glamorgan.

100 for Marcus Harrispublished at 17:00 BST 24 April

    Durham v Lancashire 280-6

A wonderful century for Marcus Harris!

Harris whips one through mid-wicket for a single to bring up three figures.

It has taken the Australian 202 deliveries to get there.

Harris has played intelligently and patiently, hitting 15 four's on his way so far.

With 17 overs in the day remaining, Harris will want to add to his tally as the Red Rose approach 300 with the new ball due very shortly.

  6. Postpublished at 16:59 BST 24 April

    Durham v Lancashire 279-6

A slower ball from Kasey Aldridge is too full and nicked finely down to long leg for four by Paul Coughlin.

Coughlin moves to 23 not out.

  7. Batting point for Essexpublished at 16:59 BST 24 April

    Surrey v Essex 250-5

Matt Critchley, new to the crease at number five, drives Dan Lawrence through mid-off for four as Essex collect their first batting bonus point.

Eight overs to go until Surrey can take the new ball.

Why do the Surrey bowlers all go round the wicket to left-handers - too easy for good players like Elgar? Why not mix it up over the wicket?

    Roger, The Oval

Good question, Roger, but as Elgar and Walter are now back in the hutch, maybe it's one to ponder for the second innings (if there is one)....

Sussex are restricted from bringing in any new players due to penalties imposed by the ECB, but they'll be delighted the signing of Tom Price was completed before the club's financial problems became apparent

Half-centuries in three of the five innings he has played for Sussex have added much needed solidity to the middle order, but even more impressive is his calm unruffled approach in difficult circumstances.

Arriving at the crease with Sussex wobbling at 150-5 he's played with great authority mixing sound defence with dispatching the loose ball, and in John Simpson found a partner to steer Sussex through a crisis

Having been asked to bat this morning Sussex will feel they are in a decent position.

  10. 100 runs

100 for Ed Barnardpublished at 16:56 BST 24 April

    Notts v Warwickshire 266-6

Moments after Dillon Pennington came so close to tempting his outside edge, Ed Barnard tickles a sweep shot round the corner and, although the throw comes back from fine leg, he and Chris Woakes scamper through for the three the Bears captain needs for his ton.

Barnard's first major score of the campaign could scarcely have come at a better time for his team.

  11. Reece replaces injured Dalpublished at 16:54 BST 24 April

    Derbys v Glos 176-6

We told you earlier on about how Derbyshire's Anuj Dal had to be carried off during the morning session after slipping in his run-up.

The club say he has an ankle injury and will not play any further part in the game.

Fellow all-rounder Luis Reece will step in as substitute - not exactly a like for like replacement as he is a 'leftie'.

  12. 250 runs

250 up for Glamorganpublished at 16:51 BST 24 April

    Glamorgan 251-6 v Leicestershire

Timm van der Gugten nudges one through short leg for a couple of runs to move Glamorgan past 250.

Glamorgan pick up their first bonus batting point, only their second of the season.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:48 BST 24 April

Walter lbw Abbott 101 (Surrey v Essex 248-3)

Huge breakthrough for Surrey in the overall context of the day as Paul Walter departs.

The big left-hander batted for 290 minutes, faced 184 balls and hit 14 fours - his dismissal came just moments after Charlie Allison had brought up their 50 partnership with a boundary to third man.

  14. Postpublished at 16:46 BST 24 April

    Durham v Lancashire 265-6

Nervy moment for Marcus Harris (91 not out).

He steps away and right in front of his own wicket somehow bottom edges before scampering through for a single.

  15. 250 runs

250 up for the Bearspublished at 16:45 BST 24 April

    Notts v Warwickshire 251-6

The mending of Warwickshire's innings continues as they pass 250 at Trent Bridge. Ed Barnard is on 88, having driven Dillon Pennington's first ball after tea back down the ground for four.

Chris Woakes is ably assisting and sits on 41 at the non-striker's end currently. Three figures is firmly in the sight of skipper Barnard.

  16. Postpublished at 16:43 BST 24 April

    Durham v Lancashire 263-6

Marcus Harris is now into the nervy nineties.

He bides his time to cut towards square for a single to move onto 91 not out.

It's been another excellent innings from the Australian left-hander.

  17. Play resumes at Trent Bridgepublished at 16:40 BST 24 April

    Notts v Warwickshire 245-6

We are underway in the evening session of day one at Trent Bridge between Notts and Warwickshire.

Ed Barnard moves onto 83 as he nudges Liam Patterson-White down to long off in the first over after tea.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:38 BST 24 April

    Van Buuren c Montgomery b Bashir 13 (Derbys v Glos 167-6)

We have watched that half a dozen times and still don't know how Matthew Montgomery took the catch.

Graeme van Buuren attempts a full-blooded pull off Shoaib Bashir and Montgomery stays low at short leg and somehow scoops it up.

Van Buuren can hardly believe it and stands in the crease for several seconds before trudging off.

Ed Middleton is the new Glos batter - in his first Championship game since 2024.

  19. Postpublished at 16:38 BST 24 April

    Shot.

Sean Dickson punishes a delivery too straight from Josh Davey with a gorgeous straight drive.

Lovely shot from Dickson sees him move into the seventies.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:34 BST 24 April

    Cooke c Cox b Patel 12 (Glamorgan 237-6 v Leicestershire)

Leicestershire pick up their second bowling point as they grab a sixth wicket.

Chris Cooke edges behind to Ben Cox who makes a sharp catch off the bowling of Ajaz Patel.

Little bit of confusion as there is a look back from Cooke but the umpire eventually raises his finger.

Timm van der Gugten walks to the crease.
