I think this is going to be a massive difference between the sides, running between wickets.

Scotland's Manhattan is showing a team that is starting to up the pace.

  3. Sco 56-2published at 8 overs

Close! Sarah Bryce cuts Prendergast to backwards point, and Aimee Maguire dives forward but the ball drps just short. Good work by the fielder, though, who collects on the half-volley and prevents a run.

We didn't see enough bouncers bowled in yesterday's game so it's good to see them getting fired out there now.

  5. Sco 55-2published at 7.4 overs

Orla Prendergast's radar is off, a couple of wides going down either side of a two and a single for the Bryces.

The bowler then bends her back and sends down a bouncer - which is judged to be a wide, having gone past the batter's nose. Prendergast looks irked, and I'll agree with her on that one.

That was a needed over by Scotland, they'll really have to accelerate now though if they want to put up a good total.

Mark S, Old Trafford: Poor spectator experience for those sitting under the Point at Old Trafford - scoreboard pretty much blocked from view. We can see the sponsor screens fine though!

Julian Evitts, Old Trafford: Great to be at Old Trafford. Shame there's only one scoreboard, which you can't see from my seat.

  8. Sco 47-2published at 7 overs

Kathryn Bryce lays back and slaps Ava Cannning over cover for just the third boundary of the innings so far. Gaby Lewis does her best to stop it, but slides into the boundary sponge.

The batter then cuts stylishly for another two, and from the final ball she pulls towards mid-wicket but again the ball holds up on the outfield and they run another two.

A really good opening partnership from Scotland but these past two overs have set them back a bit.

  10. Sco 37-2published at 6 overs

Sarah Bryce joins her sister, and stabs Maguire back teasingly just in front of the bowler, the ball bouncing up and hitting her on the chin.

There are no ill-effects and an excellent over ends the powerplay that has very much gone Ireland's way.

All of a sudden it's become Ireland's powerplay because they've got those two early wickets. I'm sure Ireland will be happy with this start.

This next partnership will be what make or breaks Scotland, the Bryce sisters.

Gone! Great work by Aimee Maguire!

From around the wicket, the bowler gets some lovely late dip on the ball and yorks the opener, who hears the death rattle of the timbers and trudges off sadly.

  13. Sco 35-1published at 5 overs

Kathryn Bryce comes in at 3, and goes on the attack straight away but the slow-ish outfield stymies her efforts.

Katherine Fraser absolutely livid with herself there. That was a really nice catch because it did look like the ball was being blown away from Tector, good control, good balance. Great catch.

    Fraser c Tector b Canning 15 (Sco 30-1)

First blood to Ireland, as Katherine Fraser lifts Arlene Kelly towards the rope at midwicket, but Alice Tector judges it superbly in the breeze and clutches the ball in front of her.

  16. Stumping chancepublished at 4 overs

    Sco 28-0

Katherine Fraser swipes at Arlene Kelly, and keeper Amy Hunter whips the bails off with a smart piece of glovework.

Ireland are convinced they have the first wicket, but the square leg umpire says no and the replays show that she was bang-on correct.

    Good work all round.

I think Scotland will be pretty satisfied with this start so far.

I don't think we've seen one shot that's been well timed though.

  18. Sco 27-0published at 3.2 overs

Darcey Fraser keeps up with the aerial assault with one lofted drive eluding Gaby Lewis at mid off, but the next ball sees the Scotland opener time it nicely for a four in front of the pavllion.

I'm worried that it's too slow out there, especially for the games coming up later. Hopefully, there will be a little more pace when the sun comes out, if the sun comes out.

  20. Sco 21-0published at 3 overs

Ava Canning's right-arm in-duckers are milked by Darcey Carter for a succession of twos, the opener is getting the ball into the air easily enough but it's not quite timed well enough for a boundary. The outfield may be a bit slow given the rain that swept across Manchester over the last day.
