It must have been a woody pad noise. Harry Brook was up quickly, he didn't even review it with his captain.

    Phew.

The ball flicks pad rather than bat as Nathan Lyon bowls from round the wicket.

Not out and Harry Brook survives. Cheers from the Barmy Army.

Harry Brook instantly said he was going to review this.

Australia think they've got Harry Brook caught behind down the leg side off Nathan Lyon.

Given out on the field but quickly reviewed. What has Snicko got for us today?

This ball is 35 overs old. I wonder if there is a hint of reverse swing.

A more conventional field for Ben Stokes and Mitchell Starc does go fuller to the England captain.

There is still a bouncer - that sails well over Stokes' head but isn't called wide - thrown in there for good measure.

How much better does Brook look when he's not running down the pitch? Great to see him knuckling down and fighting for his team.

    Strap in, folks.

The field has spread and Mitchell Starc is going to try some short stuff.

Harry Brook is going to take it on as well, pulling the first ball for a single.

Oh Blake... I love the confidence but you better hope England don't lose a wicket any time soon or I fear you might be blamed.

That said, being in Barbados, maybe you're talking about a West Indies revival given they're currently toiling in Mount Maunganui.

New Zealand are 237-0 in the first innings of the third Test.

Two singles to start the over with Ben Stokes putting in the dive to make the second one look closer than it was.

    He was in quite comfortably.

Play and a miss from Harry Brook but he puts that out of his mind quickly with a well-timed cut shot that races away for four.

That brings up the fifty partnership.

England's batters have had their Test cricket technique coached out of them so badly that they struggle to bat with confidence anymore. Australia's bowlers bowl with strict discipline, ours don't. And that's the difference. And it's embarrassing to watch....

Nathan Lyon is back after drinks with England taking three from the over.

Two singles for Harry Brook and one for Ben Stokes to get the tourists moving again.

It's going to be a double bowling change with Mitchell Starc readying himself for another burst.

We're in the 31st over and the ball is doing a lot less. It has not done a huge amount, but it has done enough. This is what Australia have done throughout the series, they subtly change tactics to certain players.

There have been some big, big partnerships at the Adelaide Oval in the history of Test match cricket. You have got to dig in and fight for each other.

After an expensive previous over, Scott Boland is back on the money in this one.

He keeps Harry Brook quiet for the first five ball before offering a hint of width with the last, allowing the England right-hander to guide it through backward point for one.

    Time for drinks.

So far, Harry Brook is playing sensibly. This partnership is just starting to now show something.

What Australia are trying to do with Harry Brook is get Ben Stokes on strike and put on the squeeze, so Brook only faces one ball every over and it might frustrate him.

Pat Cummins is through another over with just a Harry Brook single, pushed to long off, from it.

This fifth-wicket partnership is now worth 41.

I think throughout this series, England have swapped and changed their tactics too quickly. They're not a patient cricket team England - that is both with bat and ball.

They have tried to play patiently with the bat today, but Australia have bowled fantastically.

Perhaps the most pleasing thing for England after that shot from Harry Brook is that he has not got carried away in the balls since.

Having given Scott Boland something to think about, he goes back to his previous approach.

But that shot has seemed to knock the bowler out of his rhythm slightly so Brook is able to clip through square leg for two then drive through point for a couple more.

The over ends with Ben Stokes working Boland through backward square for another two, making it 13 from the over.

Hello, where did that come from?

After so long being circumspect, Harry Brook skips down to the first ball of Scott Boland's over and flays the seamer over cover for six.

    That is a remarkable shot.
