Waking up at 4am to check the score, it's pitch black outside. In fact, the only thing darker is the sense of humour I'm developing around this team. They have totally failed to 'urn' any respect this tour.

Pat Cummins starts with a maiden.

He draws an edge from Jamie Smith with his final delivery, but the England batter plays with soft hands and the ball drops a distance in front of the slips.

Harry Brook falls to another delivery in the channel outside the off stump.

Seven of his 14 dismissals against pace bowlers in Tests this year have been in the tight channel outside the stumps.

The right-hander had an exceptional record with deliveries in that zone, averaging 56.4 until 2024 - dropping to 29.9 in 2025.

    Thanks Sam.

It's been a tough watch today.

Well done to the hardened souls who've made it through this far and welcome to the early risers.

    The evening session awaits us.

It doesn't get any easier to watch, does it, England fans?

Remember the glorious time in the morning session when the tourists were, erm, 37-0... Yeah, when that's as good as things have been, it says a lot.

But Ben Stokes' side love a chase and the way things are going they're going to have a big one.

Anyway, that's for another day. For now, Mike Peter is here to take you through the remainder of tea and the start of the evening session.

Another session you give to Australia. The two wickets of Joe Root and Harry Brook have done more damage.

Australia are bowling more consistently, and England have had to play shots against better deliveries.

There is a real feel here that there is a couple of partnerships that separate Australia from pretty much winning the Ashes.

Ben Stokes lets the ball go by outside off and that is tea.

Another good one for Australia, only two wickets but they're the crucial scalps of Joe Root and Harry Brook and they limited England to just 73 runs.

Brook had batted nicely in partnership with Ben Stokes but his wicket just before the break has hammered home the hosts' advantage.

Cameron Green would have reached that. However, it's a little hard to field off your own bowling...

    Goodness me!

Cameron Green bangs one in and it jumps up to find the shoulder of Jamie Smith's bat.

The ball flies in the air but just out of reach of Josh Inglis, diving to his left at gully, and away for four.

Maiden over from Nathan Lyon to Ben Stokes, who is not moving too comfortably out there - hopefully it is just a bit of cramp.

Australia race round and we will get one more over in before tea.

The most highly anticipated Ashes series in years and it turns out to be another damp squib. You have to admire the Aussies to still keep motivated.

That is a good ball. It angles into the off stump and just straightens. The smallest amount of movement and those are the ones you can nick.

Jamie Smith is in at seven and if ever there was a time for the England wicketkeeper to rediscover his best form, this is it.

He's beaten by another beauty from Cameron Green to end the over. This ball is reversing ever so slightly by the looks of it.

That is what Cameron Green can do.

He is a tall man and he can bowl a heavy ball. That seam came out perfectly straight. It did just enough and there is no reverse swing as such, but it held its line.

Harry Brook is disappointed with that.

Partnership broken. England sink further into the mire.

Harry Brook has batted superbly all afternoon but he's undone by an excellent delivery from Cameron Green.

Pitching on a fourth stump line and just a hint of movement away to find a feather of an edge.

No reprieve for Brook this time and Australia are overjoyed.

Shouldn't feel remarkable, Conor, and I wouldn't say it does but I'd say a fifty partnership after being 71-4 is always encouraging.

A fightback has got to start somewhere.

With about 10 minutes until tea, here comes Cameron Green.

The cautious optimism is indicative of how far expectation levels have fallen. A partnership of 50 from the middle order shouldn't be remarkable or encouraging, but here it feels both.
