What a bowler. Nathan Lyon deserves to get that. A great piece of bowling. Ben Duckett was looking very good out there. You wondered what impact Nathan Lyon was going to have in this game. First over, and that was a gem of a ball.

Lyon has been brilliant. First over back, and he was "filthy" after being left out in Brisbane. A soft dismissal with Ollie Pope, but that ball to Duckett was brilliant.

    Duckett b Lyon 29 (Eng 42-3)

    Nathan Lyon does the business!

The hometown hero goes second in Australia's all-time wicket-taking list, passing Glenn McGrath by cleaning up Ben Duckett.

An excellent delivery and Duckett, who was looking pretty comfortable, is the latest batter to head to the dressing room - England have lost three wickets for five runs.

Joe Root and Harry Brook have a rebuilding job on their hands.

Why have we persisted with Ollie Pope for so long? He's blown so many opportunities and clearly doesn't have the ticker for a tour like this.

    Steve, Adelaide

Pope hasn’t missed out, he’s done exactly what he always does. He cannot continue in this side after this tour!

Reminiscent of Cameron Green yesterday. Not a huge amount of turn, but it just came back in.

Ollie Pope looks devastated. What has he done? He has flicked it in the air to mid-wicket. You have missed out big time there, Ollie Pope. A terrible shot.

    Pope c Inglis b Lyon 3 (Eng 41-2)

    Oliver...

Nathan Lyon comes on to bowl a few overs before lunch and strikes with his third ball.

A nothing shot from the England number three, clipping to Josh Inglis at mid-wicket. Quite reminiscent of how Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green fell to Jofra Archer yesterday afternoon, although their shots were a little squarer.

Pope trudges off - his woes in this series continue.

Ben Duckett has played some good shots. I nearly fell off the chair when he intentionally left one. Bazball has gone after that!

That is what Scott Boland does... If there is any movement in the pitch at all, he finds it. It seamed back into Ollie Pope and that was a very loose shot.

  8. Eng 40-1published at 9 overs

A first change for Australia, as Scott Boland replaces Mitchell Starc.

The 36-year-old seamer starts with a maiden to Ollie Pope, sending his last delivery between bat and pad with some handy deviation off the seam.

I blame Si from Lancashire at 00:57.

    Dave, Not in Lancashire

Poor Si from Lancashire. He's going to be England cricket's bad luck charm from now on.

Thanks Si from Lancashire. Commenters curse!

Ollie Pope arrives at the crease and gets going by working Pat Cummins down to fine leg for two.

A single down to a similar region sees him retain the strike for the next over.

    That is brilliant bowling.

Pat Cummins comes wide of the crease and he creates that angle which forces Zak Crawley into playing the shot.

There is a bit of nip and that's brilliant bowling.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 7.4 overs

    Crawley c Carey b Cummins 9 (Eng 37-1)

A first wicket of the series for Pat Cummins!

It's Zak Crawley who falls to a superb delivery from the Australia captain, back of a length and straightening a touch to take an edge.

Alex Carey gathers and England's opener has to depart for nine from 19 deliveries.

What a chance we have on this wicket. We will not get a better day to bat in this series. Come on Zak and Ben - let's see 200 without loss!

This is what happens when you play nicely.

Mitchell Starc is the enforcer for Australia. His job is to get wickets, and he has not got one yet, so he goes searching for one.

Bowls full and straight and Ben Duckett goes, 'Thank you very much.'

  15. Eng 37-0published at 7 overs

Zak Crawley drives Mitchell Starc down the ground for three, bringing Ben Duckett back on strike.

The diminutive opener times a shot beautifully through mid-wicket for his fifth four, while a further two out to point takes him to 28 from 27 balls, equalling his highest score of the series.

Ben Duckett has an excellent record when pace bowlers miss their lines.

In Tests since the start of 2024 when bowlers have gone wide or strayed down the leg, Duckett averages 59 & 112 strike-rate facing such deliveries.

When they've gone tighter, his returns drops a little, but still very respectable - averaging 31 at 77 strike-rate.

It has taken England to go 2-0 down to understand how to play. It has been a sensible start from Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett.

They have played some nice strokes and a couple of balls have missed the outside edge, but that's fine.

  18. Eng 28-0published at 6 overs

Just a couple of runs off Pat Cummins' third over.

The Australian captain lands his final delivery in a sensitive area for Ben Duckett, with the England opener immediately hopping away.

I think Australia will be disappointed with that number they got. Alex Carey was the only centurion coming in at number six. A lot of that top order would have fancied getting a big number on this surface.

  20. Eng 26-0published at 5 overs

Let's give Duckett and Crawley a go first, Tom.

Mitchell Starc sends a rising delivery past Zak Crawley's bat, with the England opener definitely tempted to play.

The next ball is turned behind square for two.
