  1. 'Nicely played push through the covers'published at 17:03 BST 1 May

    Somerset 90-3 v Yorkshire 162

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

It was a very nicely played push through the covers to bring up the 50 for Josh Thomas.

A ninth boundary and 54 deliveries it's taken to get him there.

Jonny Bairstow came out and played in similar fashion for Yorkshire.

  2. Division Two latestpublished at 17:03 BST 1 May

Derbyshire have finally removed Kent captain Daniel Bell-Drummond for an excellent 129 - paceman Zak Chappell with the wicket. Kent are 314-7 at Canterbury.

It's been an even opening day at Lord's with Middlesex on 218-5 against Durham - experienced all-rounder Ryan Higgins and keeper Joe Cracknell are in the middle for the hosts.

Worcestershire's mammoth last-wicket stand at Northants keeps on growing. Gareth Roderick and Olly Hannon-Dalby have shared 104 to take the Pears to 290-9 at a late tea.

  3. 300 runs

300 up for Sussexpublished at 17:00 BST 1 May

    Surrey v Sussex 308-8

As the clock ticks over to 5pm on day one, Sussex add a second batting point.

Jack Carson and Ollie Robinson's partnership is now worth 142 runs.

They are both moving within range of a century too.

  4. 50 runs

for Josh Thomaspublished at 16:58 BST 1 May

    Somerset 82-3 v Yorkshire 162

Josh Thomas reaches a half-century in what has been a testing period for the hosts.

Thomas opened alongside Archie Vaughan who went for seven with James Rew and Tom Lammonby also going cheaply.

Thomas' 50 came in 54 balls and included nine fours.

  5. 200 runs

    200 partnershippublished at 16:58 BST 1 May

    Hants v Glam 290-1

Kiran Carlson and Zain-ul-Hassan have reached a significant milestone with 200 up for the second wicket but it is a first century for the latter that is in focus now.

For the record Carlson has 121 of the 200 to Ul-Hassan's 66 and has just cracked another maximum off Scott Currie.

  6. 'Yorkshire can't afford too much loose stuff'published at 16:54 BST 1 May

    Somerset 82-3 v Yorkshire 162

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

Somerset are halfway there with the loss of just three. You can't really afford for more than an odd player to get in if you're going to peg the opposition back and not let them get into a sizeable lead.

So, Yorkshire can't afford too much loose stuff, they've got to be on it.

  7. 'It's just been a brilliant innings'published at 16:50 BST 1 May

    Northants v Worcs 289-9

    Frank Watson
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Congratulations to Gareth Roderick, the first player into three figures for Worcestershire this year and he's gone big.

Well played. It's just been a brilliant innings.

His 10th-wicket stand with Olly Hannon-Dalby is now worth 103. Remarkable.

This is some counter-attacking innings from Worcestershire keeper Gareth Roderick.

He goes to 150 and his last-wicket stand with Olly Hannon-Dalby is now worth 91.

    Hannon-Dalby has 17, but they've both given Worcestershire a competitive first-innings total.

Outside of Sussex there were eyebrows raised when Ollie Robinson was appointed skipper for the season, however those inside the club knew this was another shrewd appointment by Paul Farbrace.

Robinson has thrived under the added responsibility, and has already scored 209 runs this season surpassing the 150 he scored in the whole of last season.

In Jack Carson he's found a fighter he never throws in the towel, and these two tother with Fynn Hudson-Prentice have rescued Sussex from the depths of 92-7.

The wicket appears to have flattened out having offering offered assistance this morning as Sussex have fought their way back into the match

  12. Tea at Tauntonpublished at 16:28 BST 1 May

    Somerset 63-3 v Yorkshire 162

The hosts make it to tea trailing Yorkshire by 99 runs.

Archie Vaughan, James Rew and Tom Lammonby all fell in single figures but Josh Thomas has played well for his 36 from 46 balls, and he is alongside Tom Abell who has taken it steady on five from 22.

Before that we had the carnage of Yorkshire's innings when they went from 115-3 at lunch to all out by 3pm in an astonishing collapse.

Finally something positive to shout about from a Kent point of view! Well played Skip. Great knock.

  14. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 16:18 BST 1 May

    Surrey v Sussex 274-8

Very much Surrey's morning, very much Sussex's afternoon.

We've had a real game of two halves already.

Sussex were 0-1 and 92-7 as they were on the end on the blistering Surrey attack early on.

But during the afternoon the counter attack has continued to gather pace with Fynn Hudson-Prentice out for 53 before Ollie Robinson (65*) and Jack Carson (61*) came together for a 100 partnership.

  15. Tea at Southamptonpublished at 16:13 BST 1 May

    Hants v Glam 262-1

Two good sessions work under the belt for Glamorgan who stride off with purpose at 262-1.

Kiran Carlson's explosive innings (112*) has contained some superb aggressive shots while Zain ul-Hassan has been more quiet accumulation.

Hampshire have not bowled with any great plan or purpose with the honourable exception of Sonny Baker who has deserved at least a wicket for his troubles.

  16. 'Another extraordinary session'published at 16:13 BST 1 May

    Surrey v Sussex 273-8

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

It's been another extraordinary session in completely the opposite way to the one this morning.

  17. Tea at Grace Roadpublished at 16:11 BST 1 May

    Leics v Notts 282-2

    Ajaz Patel bowlingImage source, Shutterstock

Time for a cuppa at Uptonsteel Grace Road and it will be Leicestershire who will need extra sugar.

That has been two sessions which have gone the way of the visitors despite the hosts winning the toss and electing to bowl.

Ben Slater and Ben Duckett piled on 131 for the second wicket with the former reaching his 16th first-class hundred in the middle session.

Joe Clarke and Slater have already reached 54 runs for the third.

The Foxes need a good think about how they can stop this from becoming a day on which the win is taken off the table.

  18. 100 runs

partnership for Carson & Robinsonpublished at 16:07 BST 1 May

    Surrey v Sussex 273-8

Ollie Robinson (65*) and Jack Carson (60*) continue to defy Surrey and add to the visitors' total.

Much less talk of the green pitch at The Oval this afternoon.

  19. Postpublished at 16:07 BST 1 May

    Northants v Worcs 226-9

Worcestershire's last-wicket stand is now worth 40... Olly Hannon-Dalby has contributed precisely zero.

Gareth Roderick is motoring and up to 120.

  20. 'Truly deserved for Carlson'published at 16:04 BST 1 May

    Hants v Glam 251-1

    Michael Carberry
Former England batter on BBC Radio Lancashire

    Very well played Kiran Carlson.

That's his 16th first-class century and very much one of his better ones.

Truly deserved. He's played very well. He's been busy, he's had intent and he's meant business from ball one.

He's put Glamorgan in a very, very strong position and hasn't really put a foot wrong in this innings.
