That was an edge. Clear deviation as it passed the bat although admittedly very small. How the umpire can say there was a gap between bat and ball is baffling.

Every single person in the stadium knew that Marnus hit that. He's so lucky!

Marnus Labuschagne has been put under immense pressure by this English pace attack. He's played 39% false shots (14 out of the 36 balls so far) - the highest for the Australian batter across his Test career when he's faced 30+ balls in an innings.

  3. Aus 20-1published at 13 overs

Jofra Archer is spending a lot of time with his hand on his hips in disbelief.

A helmet is brought out for Ollie Pope at short leg and it's almost a captaincy masterstroke as Steve Smith pops the next delivery just out of the fielder's reach.

Archer finishes with a couple of short ones to Marnus Labuschagne. He has 1-6 from five overs.

  4. Aus 19-1published at 12 overs

Oh, it's all getting a bit exciting now! Marnus Labuschagne and Brydon Carse exchange words at the end of the over.

After this start, England's bowlers will be wondering how they've only got one wicket.

It wasn't a spike, you've got to be fair, it was more of a murmur.

  6. Not outpublished at 11.5 overs

Sorry Phil, it's not out. There's a little murmur on Snicko but there's a gap between bat and ball, according to the third umpire.

    Marnus Labuschange survives.

I didn't hear a noise but that's not an answer by any means.

  9. England reviewpublished at 11.5 overs

Ben Stokes is going up for a caught behind against Marnus Labuschagne.

Two balls earlier, Brydon Carse had been very interested in one against Steve Smith but the batter, the umpire, and the England skipper said no.

This time, Stokes is more convinced.

  10. Aus 15-1published at 11 overs

Steve Smith stands back, deep in his crease, to defend the next three balls before ducking under a bouncer.

Ben Stokes is sticking with Brydon Carse at the other end.

  11. Aus 15-1published at 10.2 overs

Steve Smith, yellow collar popped up, cops another delivery from Jofra Archer on his right elbow.

Next ball, he's struck on his right hand.

He immediately signals for the physio.

England have got to get back into it this session, they need two or three quick ones.

Australia are 15-1 after 10 overs, with Labuschagne on 6 (33) and Smith on 7 (26). Remember, England were bowled out for 172 inside 33 overs.

Jofra Archer will bowl the first over after the interval.

Trying to keep the faith but can’t help but thinking Australia are doing what England should have done and drawing the sting out of the attack.

It was all happening in that session, I'm looking forward for the final one. It's good wicket, there's something in there for the fast bowlers, they just need to take the catches when they come.

England have been excellent in the first 10 overs - quick, hostile.

They've induced 44% false shots (28% play and misses, 16% edges) in this spell of bowling before tea. Australia will be glad to have lost just the one wicket so far.

Across this 10-over span, they've bowled at an average speed of 89.5 mph - the quickest ever English pace attack in the timeframe since ball-tracking records began in 2007.

With England bowled out for 172, Australia's confidence would have been sky high.

However, Jofra Archer struck in the first over to remove debutant Jake Weatherald for a two-ball duck.

Australia are 15-1 after 10 overs.

Cameron Green (1-10) and Brendan Doggett (2-27) shared the other three England wickets.

Scott Boland, however proved expensive, with 0-62 from his 10 overs, while there was nothing in the pitch for spinner Nathan Lyon (0-10).

However, they were no match for Mitchell Starc, who picked up three wickets in his opening burst to remove Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Joe Root and ended up with figures of 7-58.

Crawley played a poor shot and England's lower order crumbled in a heap, but credit has to go to Starc for several of his wickets.

There were some good moments in England's innings.

Ollie Pope was looking relatively settled for his 46 (58) while Harry Brook played some entertaining shots for his 52 (61).
