    Surrey 17-1 v Essex 409

Would it be fair to say Dom Sibley and Jamie Smith are the antithesis of each other when it comes to batting styles?

Accurate or not, they are in tandem for Surrey at the start of the afternoon session.

  4. SUSSEX ALL OUT FOR 502published at 13:25 BST 25 April

    Yorkshire v Sussex 502

Sussex and Ollie Robinson will be very happy with that.

Robinson finishes not out on 40 as it's Henry Crocombe who is last man out lbw to Jack White, who with 4-60 was the pick of Yorkshire's bowlers.

Sussex were put in to bat by Yorkshire yesterday and they fell to 150-5 at one stage but John Simpson's 136 and Tom Price's 93 gave the visitors the advantage which they have driven home today.

That last wicket stand added 42 to the total to take it over 500 and give Yorkshire a lot of work to do.

Is it such a ridiculous thing to suggest that James Anderson's form warrants a Test recall. Obviously it's not gonna happen but why not!!!! England's bowling attack was lost and leader-less over the winter. It needs a leader. I know who I'd choose!

    Andrew, Spalding

Wasn't that Joe Root's 100th first class wicket?

    Michael, Leeds

You are correct, Michael. Still greedy for centuries, it would seem.

Some of the Surrey players among the masses on the outfield at the Oval during lunch today - lovely to see so much support for the County Championship here once again!

  7. Crane central to Glamorgan's prospectspublished at 13:16 BST 25 April

    Glamorgan 410-8 v Leics

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

All very sedate in Cardiff as Glamorgan added 76 runs for the loss of one wicket with Mason Crane reaching a career best 84 not out, well past his previous top score of 61 and with a maiden century appearing on the horizon.

His stand of 133 with Timm van der Gugten has been the highest of the innings, with the Dutch international making a cautious 52 before falling to a brilliant leg-side stumping by Ben Cox off seamer Ben Green.

With Ajaz Patel wheeling away in vain for most of the session, Leicestershire accidentally got an extra over in the season despite the efforts of umpire Ian Blackwell to reach his position as slowly as possible.

Batting hero Crane can look forward to a similar workload with the ball in the second half of the day, with his leg-spin Glamorgan’s best bet for gaining an advantage.

  8. Warwickshire on top at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:14 BST 25 April

    Nottinghamshire 26-1 v Warwickshire 459 - lunch

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Warwickshire dominated the morning session at Trent Bridge, adding a further 84 runs for the final two wickets.

Michael Booth, with a career-best 70, offered the type of support Ed Barnard would have been searching for, allowing the Bears’ captain to advance to 165 in a stand of 118 for the ninth wicket.

Lyndon James eventually dismissed them both but not before the visitors had racked up a fifth batting point.

Haseeb Hameed had an uncharacteristically poor game against Glamorgan, making 0 and 2, and for the third innings in a row he was clean bowled, this time by former England colleague Chris Woakes for a14-ball duck.

  9. Women's One-Day cup latestpublished at 13:12 BST 25 April

England's Lauren Bell marked her first Hampshire appearance of the season with 5-22 as Durham were bowled out for just 118 at the Utilita Bowl.

Heather Knight has hit a magnificent century for Somerset - she is now 102 not out, with her side on 265-4 against Surrey in the 39th over.

Jess Jonassen has also reached three figures and Yorkshire are 196-4 in the 41st over against Lancashire, while Essex are 184-8 in the 46th against The Blaze.

Straight back over Dom Bess' head by Ollie Robinson who helps himself to a maximum.

The Sussex skipper is into his groove now.

Lunch has been delayed as Sussex are nine down.

  11. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 13:09 BST 25 April

Worcestershire 192-3 v Kent 196 - Worcs trail by four runs

Worcestershire began this morning on 94-1 and did have a little wobble early on in the session when they lost Jake Libby and Kashif Ali.

But that brought Adam Hose (47*) and Brett D'Oliveira (38*) together and the two of them have enjoyed making hay while the sun shines at New Road to move their side just four runs behind Kent.

In these conditions the home side will look to run up a big total and put Kent under serious pressure.

  12. Lunch at the Riversidepublished at 13:08 BST 25 April

    Durham 73-3 v Lancs 370

Graham Clark (11) and Emilio Gay (27) have stopped the run of wickets that Lancs grabbed while the ball was still hard and shiny adding 29 for the fourth wicket.

The hosts, who did well with the ball this morning taking the last three Lancs wickets for 14 runs, were themselves reduced to three down by Jimmy Anderson (two) and Mitch Stanley.

Lancs may yet regret not adding more to their overnight score having set the target of 400 as a minimum overnight.

  13. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:04 BST 25 April

    Notts 26-1 v Warks 459

The morning has belonged to Warks who added 84 for the loss of two wickets and have bagged the wicket of Notts captain Haseeb Hameed in the hosts' reply.

Ed Barnard (165) and Michael Booth (70) added the runs and Chris Woakes has taken the wicket (1-8 from four overs).

Play will resume in 40 minutes time and the hosts – Bens Slater and Duckett are the not out batsmen – have some work to do.

  14. Lunch at the Ovalpublished at 13:03 BST 25 April

    Surrey 17-1 v Essex 409

Another enthralling session at The Oval.

When they were 384-6, with Noah Thain (64) and Simon Harmer going well, Essex would have been expecting to score more than 409.

Enter Dan Lawrence, a seven-ball spell of 3-0 and that was that for the visitors' first innings.

Sam Cook beats Jamie Smith with a beauty in the final over before lunch, but the England batter drives down the ground for a couple as Surrey reach the interval for the loss of Rory Burns.

  15. Lunch at Cardiffpublished at 13:03 BST 25 April

    Glam 410-8 v Leic

Possibly the best morning of Mason Crane's life, could be followed by his best afternoon too, he lunches on 84*.

I reckon he would be more proud of a first-class hundred than five-fer, I am sure he will be interviewed after play today to find out either way.

Great support from Timm van der Gugten (52), Andy Gorvin (2* off 24 balls) now just hanging in there for him.

  16. Lunch at Derbypublished at 13:02 BST 25 April

    Derbyshire v Gloucestershire 391-8

What a morning from Gloucestershire's lower order from 287-6 to nearly 400 on the board now.

Miles Hammond and Ed Middleton did not last long, but Will Williams 42* and Henry Brookes 42* have done magnificently.

Derbyshire would have thought they would be batting by now, but are finding few answers from this sun-baked pitch, I guess global warming means April wickets will not be like those of old anymore..

  17. Postpublished at 13:00 BST 25 April

    Notts 23-1 v Warks 459

Chris Woakes is bowling a superb line and length here.

Ben Slater does well to dig out a yorker which squirts through the slip cordon for a boundary.

The former England man has bowled four overs has three maidens and 1-8.

    Simpson c Lyth b Root 136 (Yorkshire v Sussex 458-9)

John Simpson's long vigil at the crease comes to an end - and Joe Root is the man to get the vital wicket!

The Sussex batter looked to attack the part-time bowler but is caught in the deep.

What an innings from Simpson though, 136 from 226 balls and he has undoubtedly turned the game in his side's favour since joining the action.

Sussex were 150-5 in the 39th over yesterday.

    Glam 408-8 v Leic

A very quiet, slow period for Glammy since that last wicket, Andy Gorvin is 2 off 23 balls, but Mason Crane will not mind, he is batting for lunch on 82* currently.
