    Surrey 110-2 v Essex 409

Shane Snater is short of a length and Ollie Pope pulls for four despite not making the best contact. Not many deliveries like that in this innings.

    Montgomery 28 lbw Williams (Derbyshire 58-2 v Gloucestershire 498)

Will Williams for man of the match in this game then.

Matt Montgomery did not commit forward enough to nullify the movement into the right-hander with 'keeper James Bracey up breathing down his neck.

98 with the bat and now the first wicket, 1-15 off 5.3 overs from the kiwi seamer.

Skipper Wayne Madsen in for his first proper bat since that agonising injury he suffered the first game of the T20 World Cup for Italy earlier this year.

    Notts 170-4 v Warks 459

Joe Clarke nearly drags on from Ethan Bamber but escapes and restores his composure next ball to elegantly strike through widish midwicket for four.

  4. Openers making hay this Aprilpublished at 16:49 BST 25 April

    Glam 440 v Leic 123-0

There seem to have been far more runs scored in the first few rounds of the season than previous Aprils, despite the wet winter and the earliest start in the competition's illustrious history.

Don Topley's stat providers have alerted us to this flesh to add to the bones.

In the three Surrey Championship games so far in 2026, the opposition first wicket partnership has been worth:Warwickshire (A) 116-0

    Leicestershire (H) 156-0

    Essex (H) 183-0

New ball wickets have been truly elusive and that is happening in the away side's innings in Cardiff today too, they are already closing in on matching that 156-0 they managed at the Oval.

  5. Postpublished at 16:48 BST 25 April

    Notts 165-4 v Warks 459

Plenty on Joe Clarke's shoulders here at Trent Bridge with his side still trailing by 300 and Warks circling.

He reached his half century just before tea only to lose his partner Ben Duckett but a 27th first class century would be very welcome here for the champion county.

He has a willing and able partner in Kyle Verreynne and Lyndon James and Liam Patterson-White to come plus Brett Hutton.

But if Notts are to reach parity they will need a big one and Clarke is best placed.

  6. Postpublished at 16:42 BST 25 April

    Derbyshire 52-1 v Gloucestershire 498

Just the 446 Derbyshire trail by now as their scoring rate gets up above three an over as Caleb Jewell has got going after that very quiet session before tea.

Gabe Bell has 1-34 off his eight overs, a few of them being at his Tasmanian colleague of course, a fascinating battle in the sunshine on the Peak District's edge.

  7. 50 runs

for Ollie Popepublished at 16:42 BST 25 April

    Surrey 109-2 v Essex 409

Lovely shot through cover by Ollie Pope, a boundary off Sam Cook which takes him to 50 off 96 balls.

He made 103 and 83 not out against Leicestershire last week, so his excellent form continues.

Cook makes a point by beating Pope with a superb delivery at the end of the over.

50 for Rishi Patelpublished at 16:40 BST 25 April

    Glam 440 v Leic 104-0

In the same Mason Crane over both openers go to 50 as their partnership passes 100.

Rishi Patel gets there off his 81st ball with a four off Mason Crane which he pulls aerially through midwicket.

  9. Women's One-Day Cup updatepublished at 16:40 BST 25 April

An unbroken eight-wicket stand of 111 between Orla Prendergast and Kirstie Gordon has carried The Blaze to a three-wicket win over Essex in a game which they looked like losing for a long time.

Essex made 213 all out but got rid of Tammy Beaumont, Kathryn Bryce, Nat-Sciver Brunt and Amy Jones cheaply as The Blaze slumped to 104-7.

Bur Prendergast made 69 off 77 balls and Gordon 47 off 62 as they reached 215-7 in the 40th over.

Just 57 balls for his 50.

He got out on 96 last time out at the Oval on that flat pitch, but continues well here with a four off Mason Crane getting him to the landmark.

Leic still scoring at 4.41 runs per over, bit of a bowler's graveyard currently in South Wales.

  11. Women's One-Day Cup updatepublished at 16:36 BST 25 April

Somerset make it three wins out of three with a convincing 136-run victory over previously unbeaten Surrey at Taunton.

Heather Knight hit 103 and Dani Gibson 77 off just 37 balls in their 337-9 and Surrey were bowled out for 201 in the 34th over of their reply despite Alice Capsey's 39.

The last four wickets went down for five runs including England's Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who was superbly caught at point by Charlie Dean off Niamh Holland for 38.

Spinners Lola Harris and Dean took three wickets each.

    Haynes b Booth 1 (Notts 154-4 v Warks 459)

Second ball of the evening session and Warks have another wicket.

Michael Booth has had a great day with the bat, smashing a rollicking 70, and now he has a wicket to go with it.

Effort ball which just races through the sluggish defences of Jack Haynes and knocks the off stump clean out.

Shane Snater starts the bowling after tea at the Oval.

Will Sibley or Pope be first to 50? (Hope we haven't 'put the mockers' on them there)

No progress made by either in that one. It's a maiden to Pope.

What on Earth is going on with the baffling player replacement scheme? Last week we had to replace a fast bowler with an all rounder (Sutton for Singh Dale) now we lose a bowler and have to replace him with a Wicket Keeper (Bell for Shetty). Completely bemused!

We're sure other Lancashire fans feel the same, Ray.

  15. Pitch offering little to bowlerspublished at 16:23 BST 25 April

    Yorkshire 96-1 v Sussex 502

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Despite the early loss of Adam Lyth, Yorkshire have reached tea relatively comfortably on a pitch offering precious little help to the bowlers.

Finlay Bean has compiled an impressive half-century reaching the landmark with a thumping extra over drive, that despite having kept wicket for 131 overs in the Sussex innings.

With two days and a session to go it's a little early to predict this game will be drawn, but with just 12 wickets having fallen in five sessions that appears the most likely outcome at this stage.

  16. 'Duckett unable to resist a dangled carrot'published at 16:22 BST 25 April

    Notts 154-3 v Warks 1459

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

The penultimate over of the afternoon session heralded a seismic moment in this contest with Ben Duckett unable to resist a dangled carrot.

Warwickshire introduced the occasional spin of Rob Yates for a pre-interval trundle. After defending the first five deliveries the England man could resist no longer, danced forward and mistimed straight to Chris Woakes at mid off.

A wasteful end to a workmanlike innings of 64. Joe Clarke remains, set firm, having passed 50 for the third match in a row.

  17. Tea at the Riversidepublished at 16:20 BST 25 April

    Durham 201-8 v Lancs 370

Tom Bailey, bowling part time off spin, finishes off the second session as James Minto and Matthew Potts remain unbeaten at tea.

The pair have 33 for the ninth wicket.

It has been Lancs' day despite them adding just 14 for their final three wickets with Durham collapsing in bursts.

Two in two for Bailey followed two early wickets for James Anderson and two for Mitch Stanley. George Balderson has one and Matty Hurst effected a fine run out with a direct hit to get rid of Ben Raine.

As a bit of housekeeping in case you missed it Minto is on as a sub/replacement after Sam Conners pulled out with a side strain this morning.

Lancs have replaced Arav Shetty with George Bell after the first named suffered a hand injury.

  18. Essex 'need good evening session'published at 16:18 BST 25 April

    Surrey 98-2 v Essex 409

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex commentator

Things have settled down here after a dramatic period of play either side of lunch that left Surrey on 29-2 with Essex’s three leading seamers all looking threatening and Jamie Smith back in the pavilion.

Since then we have seen a typically resilient innings from Dom Sibley, just what Surrey wanted when a period of consolidation was necessary.

Ollie Pope has led the way with 44 of the unbroken third wicket stand of 69. Returning to the Oval with Surrey got Pope back into form against Leicestershire and here he has carried on with trademark drives and cuts.

Surrey bat all the way down and Essex face a hard task to bowl them out twice.

Even when Surrey aren’t winning games they remain arguably the most difficult team to beat. Essex need a good evening session to have a chance.

  19. Postpublished at 16:18 BST 25 April

    Glam 440 v Leic 73-0

The man of the moment, the main talking point of today's action in Division One, Mason Crane takes the first over after tea, looking to add more argument to his man of the match stake.

He was the highest scoring of three Glamorgan batters getting out in the 90s.

One of the highest team innings you will see without a centurion.

  20. Wicket & Tea at New Roadpublished at 16:18 BST 25 April

    Worcestershire 338-6 v Kent 196 - Worcs lead by 142

Another for Matt Milnes! And he owes a debt of gratitude to slip fielder Tawanda Muyeye who takes a brilliant diving catch low to his right.

Ethan Brookes flashes hard but doesn't get away with it thanks to that fine catch.

Brookes shows his disappointment at getting out like that in the final over before tea.
