    Derbyshire 142-3 v Gloucestershire 498

Final over of the day from Ed Middleton then, he has 0-11 from his two so far.

Wayne Madsen might be tempted by one of his famous hockey sweeps against the spin, or maybe the reverse with it?

Middleton does have variations up his sleeve, could be an interesting final six balls.

  2. Postpublished at 18:11 BST 25 April

    Surrey 174-3 v Essex 409

New over from Simon Harmer and Dan Lawrence sweeps fine for four runs. Not much sign of turn at the moment for the Essex - and South Africa - off-spinner.

  3. get involved

Get Involvedpublished at 18:10 BST 25 April

Couple of young lads that seem to have started the season well are Chris Woakes of Warwickshire and Jimmy Anderton at Lancs (I think I have got their names right). I wonder if the England selectors have noticed them?

    Chris, Hants

  4. Postpublished at 18:10 BST 25 April

    Durham 267-9 (trail by 103) v Lancs 370

Callum Parkinson clips a single off his hips off the bowling of Jimmy Anderson and the tail end pair have a half century partnership.

It has taken them 98 balls and is becoming a real irritation for Lancs who should have wrapped this up a while ago.

  5. Postpublished at 18:09 BST 25 April

    Surrey 169-3 v Essex 409

Eight more overs for Surrey to survive in the late afternoon sunshine at the Oval. Dom Sibley is now 71 not out, with Dan Lawrence on 18. They trail by 240.

  6. new ball

New ballpublished at 18:07 BST 25 April

    Durham 264-9 v Lancs 370

Jimmy Anderson has the new ball in hand and Matthew Potts in his sights. A bit of a loosener to start with but he beats the bat with the second delivery.

  7. Postpublished at 18:06 BST 25 April

    Yorkshire 180-1 v Sussex 502

The hard graft goes on for Sussex's bowlers.

We are in the 56th over now and the only dismissal the visitors have managed so far was Adam Lyth in the 10th over.

Finlay Bean has four overs to reach his century - if he wants to do it today that is.

Sam Whiteman is unbeaten on 68.

  8. Postpublished at 18:06 BST 25 April

    Derbyshire 138-3 v Gloucestershire 498

Glos finally turn to their out and out spinner Ed Middleton after 36 overs, not that Graeme van Buuren started poorly in fairness, and he is normally the first choice ahead of Ollie Price's part-time offies.

No major turn, steady start from the first wrist spinner used in this match.

GvB continues for a sixth, he has 1-13 so far.

  9. ouch!

Weatherald retires hurt on 104published at 18:02 BST 25 April

    Glam 440 v Leic 199-1

The subsitute count is getting well out of hand already.

I do not think this is one, I think Jake Weatherald is retiring hurt, he did not look in much pain as he sprinted for that edged two on 97 mind.

He also walks off at a quick pace after giving the universal substitute signal!

Former Middlesex and Somerset opening bat Josh Davey in at four with five overs until the close.

    Ian Holland 10*.

  10. Postpublished at 17:58 BST 25 April

    Surrey 160-3 v Essex 409

Following Ollie Pope's dismissal, the game is drifting at the Oval as Surrey look to prevent further loss before the close. There are 10 overs left following this one from Jamie Porter, who has 2-33 so far.

    Verreynne b Woakes 32 (Notts 221-5 v Warks 459)

    Well and truly cleaned up...

That has broken a really good partnership between Kyle Verreynne and Joe Clarke who have added 67 for the fifth.

Chris Woakes has done the South African for pace, line, length... pretty much everything as the ball blitzes his crumpling defences and knocks middle stump out of the ground.

Clarke remains just 14 from his century and Notts are 238 away from parity.

  12. 100 runs

100 for Jake Weatheraldpublished at 17:56 BST 25 April

    Glam 440 v Leic 197-1

    Jake WeatheraldImage source, Shutterstock

Jake Weatherald was very lucky to not get caught at slip on 97.

He ran down the wicket a bit like Mason Crane did earlier, and edged past slip for two to go to 99.

Next ball a typically strong back foot shot for four through cover point from that man Crane's short ball outside off, a gift, the ideal ball you want the first ball you are on 99!

14 fours, 114 balls for it, a quick start, a slow period after Rishi Patel fell, and then some nervous nineties batting.

  13. 50 runs

50 for Wayne Madsenpublished at 17:54 BST 25 April

    Derbyshire 126-3 v Gloucestershire 498

Wayne Madsen, back in the side for the first time since that World Cup opening match injury scores another 50 for Derbyshire.

At a very positive rate too in his 100th first-class game, with 10 boundaries off just 46 balls. A strike rate of about 108 I make that.

Martin Andersson is 5* off 14 balls with him.

  14. 50 runs

50 for Pottspublished at 17:51 BST 25 April

    Durham 257-9 v Lancs 370

Matthew Potts rides his luck with a late cut that just goes too wide of the slip but this has been an excellent rearguard from the England and Durham man.

That four takes him to 51 and a half century in 109 balls. HIs partnerships with Ben Raine, James Minto and now Callum Parkinson are dragging Durham back into the fight.

  15. 400 up for Worcestershirepublished at 17:48 BST 25 April

    Worcestershire 401-8 v Kent 196 - Worcs lead by 205 runs

That is the first time Worcestershire have secured a fourth batting point in a home match since the 2024 season.

Might they now throw caution to the wind and go after a fifth?

Their lead is over 200 so they can afford to go for it.

  16. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 17:45 BST 25 April

    Derbyshire 109-3 v Gloucestershire 498

Quite high and travelling, but Cam Bancroft got hands to it leaping up to his right attempting an AFL-style mark in the cordon.

Home skip and famous dual-sport man Wayne Madsen gets a life on 38 first ball of Gabe Bell's 11th over. Aussie dropping an Italian off an Aussie's bowling, though Wayne Madsen unlike the Manenti brothers and Joe Burns never played for Australia before Italy!

  17. Postpublished at 17:41 BST 25 April

    Durham 250-9 v Lancs 370

A batting point for Durham and brought up with a back foot cover drive from Callum Parkinson. Nice shot.

Lancs are getting frustrated by this pair but they have to keep attacking.

    Jewell b GVB 28 (Derbyshire 108-2 v Gloucestershire 498)

Graeme van Buuren's left-arm-spin gets the breakthrough.

1-2 off his 1.2 overs so far has a nice look to it.

It looped onto the stumps quite slowly past his forward push, potentially with an inside ege? Hard to tell from here.

In-form all-rounder Martin Andersson in at five ahead of Brooke Guest and injury replacement Luis Reece.

  19. Postpublished at 17:39 BST 25 April

    Surrey 135-4 v Essex 409

First boundary for Dan Lawrence who straight drives Noah Thain just to the leg-side of the stumps at the bowler's end.

Time for some more Simon Harmer.

  20. Postpublished at 17:38 BST 25 April

    Notts 200-4 v Warks 459

Joe Clarke plays Jordan Thompson back straight, the bowler throws down a hand to half stop it but it runs away and Notts take a single.

It brings up the 200 mark which is another milestone reached in a 12 miles of the marathon sort of way. They still trail by 259.
