    Weather in Kandy

Pakistan will be hoping for better weather in Pallekele today after their opening Super 8s match against New Zealand in Colombo was completely washed out.

It has been hot and sunny all day, but there could be a bit of drizzle on the horizon this evening.

Fingers crossed it holds off and we are treated to an uninterrupted contest.

Just the five spinners today for Pakistan on a fresh pitch. There's the prospect of dew later given this is a night game.

The surfaces here have been a mixed bag. Some have turned, some have been tacky but when Sri Lanka chased to beat Australia here it was flat as anything under the lights.

Both night games have been won by the chasers.

England captain Harry Brook: "We would've had a bat first as well. It is a fresh pitch so hopefully it's going to be a little bit better and give us a good opportunity to chase in the second innings.

"We've got a lot of confidence. We haven't had our perfect game yet, we are still waiting for it, but hopefully it's just around the corner.

"We've managed to look at Usman Tariq quite a bit. He isn't the only one though, we've studied all of their bowlers and batters. We feel very well prepared, hopefully we can have a good night tonight.

"It would be lovely to seal our spot [in the semi-finals], but T20 cricket is such a fickle game."

  9. 'Looks a good pitch'published at 13:08 GMT 24 February

Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha: "It looks like a good pitch. We want to put up an above-par score then try to defend that total.

"Wherever you go you have to adjust to the conditions and we have to do that very quickly because we played two days ago. We are playing in Sri Lanka and I think mostly you will see the same conditions so we know what we are going to get here.

"We have a very good spin bowling attack and to be honest we have a good fast bowling attack as well. If we need a fast bowler I will use them, and the same with the spinners as well.

"It is an added responsibility whenever you are captain. Right now I'm enjoying it and looking forward to this game as well."
