I wonder if Derbyshire are, yet again, heading for another draw where they could have declared at +/- 500 in their first innings. Northants are draw specialists. Great batting, let's hope the bowling gives good results.

    T Bradley, Scotland

Just a simple matter of Northants now scoring 700+. Piece of cake!

  2. Postpublished at 15:20 BST 9 May

    Notts 415 v Surrey 81-1

Every so often, Dom Sibley produces the kind of shot you might not expect and now he wanders outside off stump to roll his wrists at Fergus O'Neill and flick him firmly to the midwicket boundary.

A productive stroke, as was the next one from Sibley - a punch behind square that brings the Surrey opener four more as he advances to 31.

  3. Division Two updatepublished at 15:19 BST 9 May

    #bbccricket

We've already told you of that Derbyshire declaration, so here are the other headlines in the second division.

Durham are 30-1 in their chase of 308 against Worcestershire at New Road, Ben McKinney the man to fall for 14, caught by Adam Hose off the bowling of Harry Darley.

Tawanda Muyeye continues to lead the Kent resistance against Gloucestershire, currently 71 not out to help his county to 165-5 - still 160 behind their hosts with five wickets remaining.

  4. No ballpublished at 15:17 BST 9 May

    Essex 212-9 v Hants 235

When it is your day, it's your day.

Simon Harmer was dropped on 13 in the slips by Jake Lehmann and now has been caught (on 29 at the time) by Liam Dawson at mid on off Codi Yusuf only for the umpire to signal an overstep.

  5. Declarationpublished at 15:14 BST 9 May

    Derbyshire 604-7 v Northants

No fewer than six half-centuries in the Derbyshire innings - a record-equalling tally for the county - who come in having hit 600 against Northants.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:11 BST 9 May

    Cooke lbw b Overton 39 (Glamorgan 175-7 v Somerset 354)

This has gone south very quickly for Glamorgan.

Chris Cooke follows Ben Kellaway back to the pavilion, as Craig Overton hits the Glamorgan batsman on the pads.

Thirty runs still needed by the hosts to avoid any talk of the follow-on.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:10 BST 9 May

    Davies c Bean b Revis 38 (Warwickshire 147 & 95-1 v Yorkshire 152)

Ooh that didn't go where Alex Davies wanted it to.

Fresh from hitting Matt Revis for two fours in three balls the Bears opener is out.

Davies plays across his pads and gets a big leading edge that pops away in the opposite direction than he intended and is caught by Fin Bean at cover.

    Yorkshire really needed that.

  8. Bees stop play at New Roadpublished at 15:10 BST 9 May

    Worcestershire 308 v Durham 26-1

    Stephan Shemilt
BBC Sport cricket correspondent at New Road

Bizarre stuff at New Road. Ben McKinney edged Harry Darley to first slip to give Darley his maiden first-class wicket.

Before Emilio Gay could face his first ball, the players and umpires hit the turf to allow a swarm of bees to pass over the field.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:09 BST 9 May

    Hughes c Weatherald b Scriven 136 (Sussex 224-4 v Leics 328

Half volley outside off stump and Daniel Hughes's eyes light up but he picks out Jake Weatherald at extra cover.

Bit of a giveaway after batting so hard for so long but maybe a little bit of tiredness creeping in as well.

Hughes is furious with himself and reaches the rope still shaking his head.

  10. Postpublished at 15:06 BST 9 May

    Notts 415 v Surrey 71-1

Lovely shot from Dom Sibley, guiding a Josh Tongue half-volley back past the bowler for a boundary that takes him to 22.

However, Sibley's in some difficulty the following over as he chases an outswinger from Lyndon James and almost edges through to Kyle Verreynne.

Surrey continue to build, though, in response to that Nottinghamshire total of 415.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:06 BST 9 May

    Kellaway b Leach 59 (Glamorgan 173-6 v Somerset)

    Huge for Somerset!

A fine innings comes to an end as Ben Kellaway can only get a bottom edge on the delivery from Jack Leach and the ball canons into the stumps.

A hopeful-looking partnership of 80 between Kellaway and Chris Cooke comes to an end.

  12. 50 runs

50 for Rob Yatespublished at 15:04 BST 9 May

    Warwickshire 147 & 91-0 v Yorkshire 152 - Warwicks lead by 86 runs

Fresh from his acrobatic catching in the field Rob Yates has looked in good shape and has reached a half-century from 67 balls with 10 fours.

Batting partner Alex Davies has played a good supporting role and is on 38 from 80 balls as the Bears approach 100 in their second innings.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:58 BST 9 May

    Snater c Brown b Fuller 16 (Essex 192-9 v Hants 235)

Another strangled down the leg side.

James Fuller has 4-38 now as Shane Snater attempts to brush this off his pads to the fine leg boundary but steers it to Ben Brown instead.

  14. 50 runs

50 for Ben Kellawaypublished at 14:56 BST 9 May

    Glamorgan 162-5 v Somerset 354

The first 50 of the Glamorgan innings and it's an important one.

Ben Kellaway records his sixth half century at this level, and if he can stay at the crease for a couple more hours he would have hauled his side back into this one, potentially.

  15. Division Two update - Guest & Andersson both hit tonspublished at 14:54 BST 9 May

News around the second division comes with good news for fans of high scores and strong batting.

Brooke Guest has 138 for Derbyshire, and partner Martin Andersson also reached three figures before getting out.

Their partnership was worth a massive 241 and has helped the hosts take a commanding position against Northants at 593-6.

Kent have lost a fourth wicket in their chase of Gloucestershire's 325, but Tawanda Muyeye has just passed 50 and helped his county to 151-4.

Early stages in Durham's first innings against Worcestershire, but the visitors are 15 without loss.

  16. Postpublished at 14:53 BST 9 May

    Notts 415 v Surrey 57-1

Josh Tongue is causing some problems for his Test team-mate Jamie Smith at the moment.

A couple of times, the seamer has pitched the ball just right and got it whizzing away from the edge - the second one taking off and climbing on Smith as well.

Tongue's looked more threatening since his initial three-over burst and Nottinghamshire will hope he can translate that into a wicket or two.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:53 BST 9 May

    Leaning c Green b A Patel 50 (Sussex 196-3 v Leics 328)

Having reached his fifty, Jack Leaning has given his wicket away with a lazy shot to mid on and the grateful hands of Ben Green.

Ajaz Patel was the bowler when Ben Cox missed the chance to stump Leaning when he was on 44 so there is some karma in that dismissal.

But Leaning will kick himself that, having got himself in and ready to kick on, he has picked out a fielder.

  18. 50 runs

50 for Jack Leaningpublished at 14:52 BST 9 May

    Sussex 192-2 v Leics 328

Jack Leaning gets up on his toes and cuts into the off side with Daniel Hughes scuttling through for the single.

It has taken 131 balls and contained five fours but it has also contained a life with a missed stumping from Ben Cox when Leaning had 44.

  19. rain stops play

Further delay at Old Traffordpublished at 14:44 BST 9 May

    Lancs 201 v Middlesex 116-5

Unfortunately, the improvement in the weather didn't last until the scheduled restart time - so the Old Trafford square remains covered and the players continue to twiddle their thumbs.

  20. Raine ends Pears resistancepublished at 14:41 BST 9 May

    Worcestershire 308 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Ben Raine eventually ended the spirited last wicket stand by Jack Home and debutant Harry Darley, as the latter fell lbw for 12 just after a delayed lunch.

Their stand was worth 57, with Home making a career-best 63 not out. When they came together this morning, the Pears were 251-9 in the 81st over. The innings ended in the 112th.

It was Raine's 18th five-for and his second in two games. He now has three of them this season.
