With only one game potentially remaining between Kent and Northants, how about a bit of fun to pass some time?

  3. SURREY DRAW WITH LEICESTERSHIREpublished at 16:51 BST 13 April
    Breaking

    Surrey 520 & 263-4 v Leics 691

Another run fest at the Oval.

Many county cricket fans will be pleased to see perennial Division Two propper-uppers Leicestershire perform so well against probably the best squad in the country.

Surrey, without Jamie Overton, Dan Worrall or either Currans (etc) still could bring England seamers Reece Topley and Matt Fisher in such is their ridiculous squad depth.

But they looked pretty toothless on a placid surface.

Leicestershire's aggressive batters, without the leadership of Peter Handscomb this year, batted and batted some more, eclipsing the champions of 2022, 2023 and 2024 first innings score, breaking many records and personal bests as they did so.

And it has never looked like there was enough time in the match for either side to push for a win on a pitch that did not deteriorate at all.

Ollie Pope content enough to shake hands mid over on 83 not out with his fellow England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes on 28.

Will Leicestershire be thinking of that incredible September 2024 game between Somerset and Surrey at Taunton when Surrey were in a similar position?

And Ben Foakes was at the crease the over Lewis Gregory intended to shake hands after, before that Jack Leach double strike remember...

The best keeper in the country hits two fours off Rehan Ahmed and then smashes him to deep cover, looking in a more positive mood than that attempted blockathon in the aforementioned game.

Rehan Ahmed gets a bowl in place of Tom Scriven, his first ball is hit for four by Ollie Pope, but he only goes for a single thereafter.

There are still fans in the ground waiting for the hands to be shaken, nine minutes away now.

Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath has questioned his underperforming White Rose outfit saying it looks like they have “forgotten how to play”.

McGrath's side were comprehensively outgunned by Hampshire at Headingley losing by 214 runs, just a week after drawing with Glamorgan.

And the title-winning coach has promised changes before their next outing against Sussex on 24 April calling his side’s efforts “well below standard”.

“If I were a supporter watching that, I'd be thinking, ‘What the hell have these guys been doing for the last six months because it looks like we've just forgotten how to play’,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

“There were warning signs last week. I spoke down at Glamorgan about how we played there – a few worrying signs with the bat, a few with the ball. Unfortunately, they’ve continued this week.

“We were well below our standard, and we’re just not getting it right.

“It’s frustrating from the optimism of pre-season and how we finished last year. The work we’ve put in has just not transformed onto the pitch.

“With bat and ball we're way, way short, which is very, very disappointing.

“The week off probably comes at a good time. The good news is we have a bit of squad depth to come in and make some changes, which we will do, but we've got to get it right pretty quick as a team.”

Another stunning rainbow over the Oval.

That New Zealand spinner who took 10-fer in India, Ajaz Patel is reverse swept from a long way down the leg side to the backward point boundary for four.

Ollie Pope rollicking along here, trying to ton up before hands are shaken!?

He has 14 minutes by my clock...

Maybe not, he pads away the next two balls outside leg!

  8. Anderson top of the bowling chartspublished at 16:34 BST 13 April

    Lancashire (351 & 160) beat Derbyshire (374 & 108) by 29 runs

Anyone still doubting whether Sir James Anderson still has it at 43-years-old? No, thought not.

What a performance from the veteran with his 4-18 blowing away Derbyshire resistance in a gripping final spell to land a first victory for the Red Rose at home since September 2024.

Anderson's four-wicket haul in the second innings made it 6-80 for the match and added to 8-111 against Northants in round one.

Those numbers put him firmly on top of the bowling charts for Division Two with 14 wickets at an average of 13.64.

He leads by one wicket from Northants Harry Conway (13) and Middlesex veteran Toby Roland-Jones (10).

Tom Scriven to Ollie Pope who is 63* and takes a single first ball to give the strike to Ben Foakes then who is 16*.

One token slip in place and wicketkeeper Ben Cox still stood up to the stumps even after that big century he scored in Leic' first innings.

    Kent 178 & 231-5 v Northants 684-2 dec

After narly four hours without any cricket, we will have an inspection at 16:45 BST to determine if we will have any more cricket today in Canterbury.

If we do, Northants will have to produce something very special to winkle out these last five Kent wickets.

  12. Postpublished at 16:15 BST 13 April

    Surrey 520 & 227-4 v Leics 691 - Surrey lead by 56 runs

The covers are still on at the Oval with grey clouds overhead so expect that to be that for this match with only 35 minutes until hands could be shaken anyway.

The County Championship Division One table before Surrey and Leics finishImage source, *BP = bonus points

Here is how the Division One table is looking in the County Championship following Nottinghamshire's victory over Glamorgan.

Somerset lead the way after two games with the defending champions up to second.

Five sides still remain without a win - and the table will of course change once we have a conclusion at The Oval but it's looking very much like Surrey and Leicestershire will also both have to wait for their first victory.

    There it is for Nottinghamshire!

Mason Crane is trapped plumb in front by Liam Patterson-White for 39 and the defending champions pick up their first win of the season.

A Jack Haynes century to rescue the first innings from 103-6 to reach 279 and a blistering bowling performance to reduce Glamorgan from 81-4 to 113 all out set the foundations.

Notts were much-improved with the bat in the second innings as Joe Clarke led the way with 136 and Ben Slater made a very useful 70.

Asa Tribe hit 85 for Glamorgan as they tried to dig deep for a draw with Mason Crane and Andy Gorvin in particular sticking around for as long as they could but it wasn't to be.

A 192-run victory and 20 points in the bag for the hosts. The visitors will make the journey back to Wales with just three points in their back pocket.

Two slips, short leg and silly point in place as Liam Patterson-White has a go at Mason Crane now.

Crane is only 11 shy of 50. If nothing else, it would be nice for him and Glamorgan if he can make a half-century.

Ryan Hadley does indeed see off the over from Josh Tongue. It's another maiden for Notts.

Hadley has seen off 12 balls since coming to the crease.

Down to 34 overs remaining at Trent Bridge.

Will Surrey be docked points for having a 'below average' pitch. I would suggest it is

    George, Gloucester

We have had some cracking contests this weekend - the games at Hove and Old Trafford being prime examples - but unfortunately the one at The Oval is petering out a little.

What is perhaps pertinent George is that this is set to be a fifth successive game there for Surrey that they have not won, so that shows they are struggling to take 20 wickets.

Their bowling attack would probably appreciate a surface with a bit more in it for them.
