Bailey b Aitchison 0 (Lancs 147-8, lead by 124 runs)

And it's two in two and Lancs feel the rope on their backs. Ben Aitchison is on a hat-trick.

That was a very good ball and bully to get first up. It angles in to Tom Bailey and squares him up and leaves to just clip off stump on the way through.

Mitch Stanley was clearly not ready yet and is scrambling to do up bits of his kit as he walks out.

    Burns b Holland 0 (Surrey 520 & 0-1 v Leics 691 - Surrey trail by 171 runs)

    What a start!!!

Surrey skipper Rory Burns is gone with the fifth ball of the innings.

Ian Holland gets it through with pace and splatters the timbers all over the shop.

Off-stump cartwheels, middle stump halfway up. Game on at The Oval!

    Coughlin c Guest b Aitchison 35 (Lancs 147-7, lead by 124 runs)

Right from the whiteboard in the team meeting this one as Ben Aitchison gives the visitors the perfect start.

Second ball of the morning and he gets a bit of lift which takes the shoulder of Paul Coughlin's bat and through to Brooke Guest.

  5. Day 4 underway at Hovepublished at 11:00 BST 13 April

    Sussex 234-5 v Warwickshire - target 328

Jordan Thompson to open to Tom Price who is 28* alongside Jack Leaning who is 72*.

These two have already put on 50 together.

Dan Hughes' 83, the standout knock of the match so far, came earlier in this innings, Leaning not far away from usurping that now.

Here we go then. We are under way on the final day of our second round of fixtures.

  7. Abbott has Yorks under his spellpublished at 11:00 BST 13 April

    Yorks 177 & 65-5 – Target 426 v Hants 251 & 351-5d

Hants captain Ben Brown saluted his “nightmare” bowler Kyle Abbott as his side put themselves in pole position for a win against Yorks at Headingley.

Abbott finished with 4-11 from nine overs as Yorks were put to the sword with the hosts 65-5 chasing a notional target of 426.

“All four of our bowlers bowled brilliantly as a unit. Codi Yusuf, the way Eddie Jack ran in there, Sonny Baker’s been brilliant all season as well. But Kyle... he’s a nightmare to face. ”

Yorks all-rounder Logan van Beek described the Hants seamer as the “consummate pro” while admitting his side need a big partnership from the current pair Finlay Bean and George Hill if they are to draw.

“There's no reason why Fin Bean and George Hill can’t put on a big partnership and take a lot of time out of the game,” he said.

“But Kyle is the consummate pro. It’s just his ability to hit full-of-length, hit the stumps constantly, nip it both ways and keep coming as well. It's relentless, and just shows what a classy bowler he is.”

  8. Can Glamorgan dig deep to frustrate Notts?published at 10:57 BST 13 April

    Notts v Glamorgan 132-2 - target 478

When Notts declared early on yesterday and set Glamorgan a huge target of 478 with the best part of two days to bowl at the visitors, only one outcome seemed likely - a home win.

But rain disruption and opening bat Asa Tribe's unbeaten 82 has complicated things for the defending champions with Glamorgan much-improved from their dismal first innings to end the day 132-2.

It hangs in the balance on the final day with Notts needing to take eight wickets for victory, while the visitors will need to bat all day for a draw - or produce something very special to chase down another 346 runs for what would be a memorable win.

Perfectly poised, we just need the weather to cooperate.

  9. Foxes eyeing upset at Surreypublished at 10:55 BST 13 April

    Surrey 520 v Leics 691

Stephen Eskinazi (with helmet off) prepares to hug helmeted Ben CoxImage source, Shutterstock

Who saw this coming after Surrey racked up 520 in their first innings?

The home team, who have won three of the past four Division One titles, seemed to be in the ascendancy against a Leicestershire side playing top flight cricket for the first time in 23 years.

But boy, have the Foxes responded well to produce their highest-ever score against Surrey, thanks to Rishi Patel's 164, a Stephen Eskinazi ton and a career-best 162 for Ben Cox.

A draw perhaps seems the most likely conclusion but with Leicestershire's lead 171, if they can rattle off a few early wickets at The Oval this morning, then who knows?

We might be in for a big upset...

  10. 94 needed for depleted Sussex to win againpublished at 10:53 BST 13 April

    Sussex 234-5 v Warwickshire - target 328

So after a topsy turvy three days of this match swinging back and forth almost as if neither side want to win it, we finally have a chase of under 100 and it could be done in the first session.

The home side only have five wickets left to play with, but they have many all-rounders in their XI, so bat particularly deep with Ollie Robinson coming in at 10 in their first innings!

Having had that rollicking start at Grace Road last week, what an emphatic way to silence the financial critics this would be, the Hove boys doing their talking on the pitch.

There were some awful batting dismissals across the first couple of days of this one, Warwickshire will be hoping for a couple more soft dismissals and early brain fades to give them a sniff still of taking the win.

  11. Controversy in Canterburypublished at 10:51 BST 13 April

    Kent 178 & 162-3 v Northants 684-2 dec

The bare facts of this match tell us that Northants are huge favourites to win, given they need seven wickets, while Kent remain 344 runs in arrears of simply making their opponents bat again.

However, a stand of 152 between Ben Compton and Sam Northeast showed what is possible after an early dismissal for England opener Zak Crawley.

But controversy has emerged regarding the late dismissal of night-watchman Matt Milnes, who was given out bowled by leggie Calvin Harrison.

Milnes took a long time to leave the pitch as the Northants players wheeled off to celebrate and video footage later emerged which suggested that the ball had gone over the stumps, but something else had dislodged the bails.

Will that sense of grievance fuel a famous day four resistance from the men of Kent?

  12. Chappell identifies Harris wicket as keypublished at 10:47 BST 13 April

    Lancs 351 & 147-6 (lead by 124 runs) v Derbys 374

Marcus Harris holding up his bat to mark 50Image source, Shutterstock

Derbyshire seamer Zak Chappell believes a target of 160 would be well within their capabilities but identified Marcus Harris as a major obstacle to that goal.

Lancs will start the final day with a lead of 124 and four second innings wickets intact as they look for a first win at Old Trafford since September 2024.

But one of those wickets is currently Australia batter Harris who will resume on 58 and in an unbeaten partnership of 69 with Paul Coughlin (35).

“Harris is a class player but hopefully we can nip a couple out in the morning and chase around 160,” said Chappell. “As long as we have a clear mind and get through the new ball – that’s going to be important.

“Jimmy [Anderson] is obviously going to be a handful but we’re just going to have to see where we are and build some partnerships.”

However, Lancs assistant coach Will Porterfield remains hopeful.

He said: “If we can eke out another 50-plus runs or look to get towards that 200 anything around that will be a tricky chase.”

  13. Weather outlookpublished at 10:45 BST 13 April

Blue skies over Trent Bridge in Nottingham before day four of Notts v GlamorganImage source, Shutterstock

Just how much could mother nature impact the outcome of our games on day four?

Well, hopefully we get widespread blue skies like there are at Trent Bridge in Nottingham this morning.

There is a bit of rain about across the country as well, which could disrupt things.

The BBC Weather summary says: "This afternoon, areas of patchy cloud will build up for many, and showers will develop in places, with a risk of lightning, especially in the north.

"Occasional sunny intervals will develop in between."

Let's hope those sunny intervals are long ones and we get plenty of action and results.
