Jos Buttler's gone for the reverse sweep and it's hit him quite high. It's brilliantly bowled by Dunith Wellalage, keeping the stumps in play.

Buttler under pressure plays a shot that is his strength, but it wasn't the right ball or the right time.

    And Jos Buttler's gone!

Dunith Wellalage traps him in front of the stumps as the England opener goes for a reverse shot.

Buttler thinks about reviewing but ultimately decides against it - and wisely so as it looked plumb.

  3. Eng 16-0published at 3 overs

Jos Buttler spent extra time in the nets on Thursday facing a wet tennis ball on a concrete slab of a pitch. The idea was to quicken up his reflexes after a tricky run.

Phil Salt's hit that so cleanly, backing himself to hit it over mid-off. It was there to be hit and long-off had no chance

First sign of aggression from England and Phil Salt.

It's a bit shortish from Dunith Wellalage as the spin is introduced in the second over and Salt is quick on to it, hammering it over long-off for a six!

It's a disciplined start from Dilshan Madushanka, giving England’s openers little to work with in that opening over.

Just four runs from the first over.

  11. Eng 0-0published at 0.1 overs

Dilshan Madushanka opens the bowling for Sri Lanka and he's got a bit of swing to begin with.

But Phil Salt manages to punch his first delivery down to long-on for a single and open his account straightaway.

England openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler are still waiting to produce a real statement stand in this T20 World Cup.

But there’s no better time than a Super 8s opener against co-hosts Sri Lanka to finally deliver.

They walk out to the middle watched on by stands that are filling fast at Pallekele.

One player England will be wary of in the Sri Lanka line-up is Pathum Nissanka.

Nissanka hit a brilliant unbeaten century off 52 balls to condemn Australia to an eight-wicket defeat in the group stage and has scored the most runs in this T20 World Cup after Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan.

It's remarkable we are ready to play here given the amount of rain that fell yesterday around these parts. Me and a couple of press colleagues got soaked in central Kandy. The rain was torrential for a good six hours but we're good to go.

England haven't lost a T20 to Sri Lanka since 2014. It's time for their tournament to kick into gear.
