It's such a crucial time to lose a wicket and Phil Salt knows it, he's walking off very slowly.

He's gifted that one down long-off's throat. He backed himself to clear it but that's a crucial time for England.

I understand he's got to carry on the way he's been playing but also not throw it away and for me, that seems like he's thrown it away.

    Salt c Hemantha b Wellalage 62 (Eng 106-6)

And that England hope is swiftly dashed as Phil Salt is gone.

He's looked a bit fatigued in the past few overs and it's a shot of a tired batter as the England opener hits it straight into the hands of Dushan Hemantha at long-off.

He's the only batter who has negotiated this fierce Sri Lankan attack and his exit is a huge setback.

It was a lovely shot from Phil Salt. I did think he was going to pick out the fielder on the deep square boundary but it went too fine.

Salt is England's only hope really.

Some respite for England after the players return after the drinks.

Phil Salt is gifted a boundary as Kamindu Mendis fumbles at deep cover before he hooks one for six over fine leg.

We've seen Dushmantha Chameera bowl at 90mph but that one was down at 72mph.

Curran backed himself to clear the fielder on the long-on boundary but didn't have enough on it.

    Problems.

    Curran c Mishara b Chameera 11 (Eng 94-5)

Another timely wicket for Sri Lanka as Sam Curran walks back.

He went for another big one, this time off the bowling of Dushmantha Chameera, but he holes out to Kamil Mishara at the long-on boundary.

In at number seven for England is Will Jacks.

Sri Lanka have been brilliant on the field today and but none more so than when their captain Dasun Shanaka ran out Tom Banton earlier in the day.

  9. Eng 94-4published at 13 overs

Three more runs from the final two deliveries of the Dushan Hemantha over means it's a good one for England.

11 runs have come in it - it's what England need more of.

A massive six from Sam Curran.

He clears the rope over deep mid-wicket with a slog-sweep off Dushan Hemantha.

That will do Phil Salt's confidence a world of good.

The England opening batter brings up his half-century in 36 balls.

But England will want him to go on and score a big one here.

England have been poor but credit to Sri Lanka. They have been brilliant and at the moment the only thing I can see is an England defeat.

Phil Salt begins Dushan Hemantha's over with a boundary through long-off before he and new batter Sam Curran add five more off the Sri Lanka leg-spinner.

You feel this is a crucial stage in this England innings - perhaps even their T20 World Cup campaign.

It's tentative from Harry Brook, stuck on the crease. I wonder whether the messaging from England is getting through.

Every time we've spoken to Brook he's said he wants the team to be more aggressive, less careful. The first over was knocked for singles, they didn't score many off the powerplay and them he himself is trapped on the crease.

It's not going how England wanted it and not how they've asked for it to go.
