Every team has a game in a tournament when they fall in a heap or under perform. Have the highs of beating Australia got a bit too much for Sri Lanka?

    Mishara c Overton b Archer 6 (SL 22-4)

Sri Lanka are tossing this away!

Opener Kamil Mishara, who'd been watching wickets tumble from the non-strikers' end, now goes himself.

He edges Jofra Archer and Jamie Overton takes the catch just above the turf.

The home side are in deep trouble - and they're still in the powerplay.

  4. SL 21-3published at 4 overs

No hat-trick for Will Jacks - Dunith Wellalage defends his first delivery.

Wellalage, who has been promoted up the ordier having batted at seven against Zimbabwe last time out, then takes a single into the leg side to end the over.

There was absolutely no need for that. The game goes from Sri Lanka at the half way stage being in control and having England right where they want them.

We know how fragile this middle order can be for Sri Lanka.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 3.4 overs

    Rathnayake c Banton b Jacks 0 (SL 20-3)

Two in two balls - Will Jacks is on a hat-trick!

Pavan Rathnayake advances down the track to his first delivery and flails at the ball.

He sends it skewing skywards, and Tom Banton takes the catch running backwards in the covers.

Are Sri Lanka throwing away a very chaseable target?

It's such a soft dismissal. Kusal Mendis patted the ball back to Jacks and this is exactly the start England needed.

They haven't got a massive total on the board, Sri Lanka only need 147 but they find themselves in a bit of trouble, something they haven't done throughout this World Cup.

    That was a weak dismissal.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 3.3 overs

    Kusal Mendis c & b Jacks 4 (SL 20-2)

Kusal Mendis will be frustrated with that.

He pops Will Jacks' delivery straight back to the bowler, who takes a simple catch and casually tosses the ball away in celebration.

  9. SL 19-1published at 3 overs

Kusal Mendis is the new batter and he gets off the mark from his second ball, turning Jofra Archer through backward square for four.

One wicket and three boundaries in the seamer's second over.

Harry Brook had just brought a fielder up from the leg-side boundary before that dismissal. Pathum Nissanka tried to target that area but picked out the one man that remained.

That was lovely from Jofra Archer. He was frustrated with the previous two balls but this time he went pace on.

Pathum Nissanka looked to flick it into the leg side and he picked out the fielder perfectly, Jamie Overton barely had to move.

  12. wicket

    Nissanka c Overton b Archer 9 (SL 15-1)

    Jofra Archer has his revenge.

He delivers a fast full delivery and Pathum Nissanka tries whip it over the mid-wicket boundary.

Jamie Overton, out on the rope, takes a few steps and takes the catch above his head with a little leap.

A crucial wicket for England - Nissanka had scores of 62 and 100 not out in his last two innings.

Where's that rain that was forecast?

  14. SL 15-0published at 2.3 overs

    Consecutive fours for Pathum Nissanka.

He calmly guides Jofra Archer's delivery through backward point, prompting cries of frustration from the England seamer.

Archer fires the next delivery down the leg side, Nissanka gets a bit of bat on the ball on the sweep and adds another boundary.

    Target 147

Straight to spin in the second over as Will Jacks takes the ball.

Kamil Mishara lashes his first delivery past point, where a diving Jacob Bethell could perhaps do a touch better, but can't score off the remainder of the over.

  16. SL 3-0published at 1 over

    Target 147

Just three runs from Jofra Archer's first over, a single apiece for the batters and a wide.

Archer, immediately sporting a fair swear on his brow, is up ticking around the 90mph mark.

From the start of the innings, Sri Lanka needed 7.25 runs an over to reach their target of 147.

Jacob Bethell was bowling between innings. Harry Brook told us that was unlikely yesterday because of a cut on Bethell's finger which required a bandage which is not allowed on his bowling hand.

A great double bluff, a rapid recovery or a sign England are desperate?

    Thanks Adwaidh.

Sri Lanka's openers are heading out to the middle - Pathum Nissanka scored a century on this ground against Australia on Monday.

He'll face the first ball from Jofra Archer.

I'm thinking back to the games we've seen here. Teams were going at 10,12,13 an over in the powerplay easily.

There's a little bit more in the pitch today and I would say England are 15-20 runs behind where they could be. If they were to get 180 on the board that might have been above par on a surface like this.

With the way Sri Lanka are batting, the way they've played and the way England have bowled, I'm pipping Sri Lanka.
