  1. Coles exit means door still 'ajar' for Yorkshirepublished at 13:24 BST 27 April

A session in which Sussex have gone a long way to securing a draw, but the job's not done just yet.

Certainly, when Jack Carson was dismissed with the lead just 35 and seven wickets remaining, there would have been jitters in the Sussex camp.

But James Coles then led the recovery playing positively from the start, and that confidence spread quickly to Tom Clark as the pair added 108 in just 20 overs steering Sussex towards safety

However, Coles was bowled just before the lunch break to keep the door ajar for Yorkshire with the Sussex lead 150.

  2. Steel forced to retirepublished at 13:20 BST 27 April

A bit of disappointing news for Surrey followers, with spinner Cameron Steel announcing his immediate retirement at the age of 30 because of injury problems.

He became Durham's youngest double-centurion when he made 224 against Leicestershire in 2017 but after moving to the Oval four years later, it was his bowling which came to prominence.

Steel was part of the Surrey squad which won a hat-trick of Championship titles from 2022 to 2024 but has not played a first-class game since July last year.

His final appearance for the club was in a One-Day Cup game against Hampshire in August.

  4. Lunch at Headingleypublished at 13:09 BST 27 April

    Yorkshire 511 v Sussex 502 & 159-4 – Sussex lead by 150 runs

There has not been much between these two in three days and one session of cricket.

Sussex added 128 runs this morning for the loss of nightwatchman Jack Carson and just before lunch James Coles who made 53.

At 150 Sussex's lead isn't enough to declare yet so will they really go for it early in the afternoon and get Yorkshire in for a bat later in the session?

  5. Lunch in Cardiffpublished at 13:06 BST 27 April

    Glamorgan 440 & 3-0 v Leicestershire 586-7 dec

Eddie Byron and Asa Tribe survive a four-over mini-session before lunch at Sophia Gardens after Leicestershire declared their first innings with a 146-run lead.

Jonny Tattersall scored his maiden century for the Foxes during the morning, making 112 off exactly 200 balls, with seven fours, before he was caught off home skipper Kiran Carlson.

The only other wicket of the morning came when Ben Green played on to Andy Gorvin, who finished with figures of 2-89.

Two sessions to bat for the Welsh county to make certain of a draw.

  6. Lunch at The Ovalpublished at 13:06 BST 27 April

    Surrey 472 v Essex 409 & 92-1

The session ends as it began, with Dan Lawrence sending down a tidy enough over - but Surrey have been unable to build on that early dismissal of Paul Walter.

Despite a few alarms along the way, Dean Elgar and Tom Westley are now looking settled and they go to lunch on 38 and 42 respectively, with their side's advantage now standing at 29.

  7. Lunch at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 13:05 BST 27 April

    Durham 99-2 – require 237 to win

Tom Bailey is keen to squeeze in one more over before lunch but as he hands his top to the umpire the clock ticks over to 1pm and we have to take the break.

We've just watched a very interesting session of cricket that was a session of two halves.

In the first, Lancashire kept things very tight indeed and Durham would have been pleased to have only lost Alex Lees and Ben McKinney such was the onslaught from Bailey and James Anderson.

But in the second hour Emilio Gay and David Bedingham have looked very composed, finding the boundary at regular intervals, and reaching a 50 partnership in no time at all.

We have a game on our hands!

  8. Lunch at Derbypublished at 13:04 BST 27 April

    Derbys 281 & 179-7 v Glos 498

Derbyshire will hang on into the afternoon, with Luis Reece and Zak Chappell unbeaten on 24 and five respectively.

Realistically, though, it's hard to see them denying Gloucestershire victory after the visitors picked up four wickets in that morning session - and Derbyshire still need another 38 just to make their opponents bat again.

  9. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:02 BST 27 April

    Nottinghamshire 279 & 412-4 v Warwickshire 459

    Rob Yates bowlingImage source, Shutterstock

Warwickshire call up Rob Yates for the final over of the morning at Trent Bridge. It's tidy enough - but unthreatening.

The Bears tried every option in search of a breakthrough but the Notts overnight pair, Kyle Verreynne and Joe Clarke, are still together.

They lead by 232, with Verreynne 71 not out and Clarke on 53 - could their yet be a declaration later on to put the Warwickshire batters under a bit of pressure?

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:59 BST 27 April

    Coles b Richardson 53 (Yorkshire 511 v Sussex 502 & 152-4 – Sussex lead by 143 runs)

James Coles is playing well but perhaps that's a little bit of overconfidence.

It's more of dismissal you would expect to see in limited overs cricket as he steps across his stumps to try to flick it away to the off side but Jhye Richardson follows him and cleans him up.

Coles left the door open and Richardson takes the invitation.

Nevertheless Coles' 100-partnership with Tom Clark has given Sussex a huge boost and a lead approaching 150.

  11. 'Atkinson could be the difference'published at 12:57 BST 27 April

    Surrey 472 v Essex 409 & 89-1

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

It's some very good figures from Gus Atkinson this session.

In his ten overs, he has three maidens and a wicket, he could be the difference.

  12. get involved

Get Involvedpublished at 12:55 BST 27 April

Based on both this and previous seasons for Lancs, this game will go to the wire, I would suggest ending with the home side 9 down (either in victory or clinging on for a draw!)

  13. Postpublished at 12:54 BST 27 April

    Derbys 281 & 175-7 v Glos 498

Gloucestershire might have hoped they'd be able to load up the coach before lunch, but that's looking less likely as Luis Reece and Zak Chappell prolong the Derbyshire resistance.

Chappell took 18 balls to get off the mark, scampering a risky single that almost led to a run-out - and you feel he and Reece will have to put together some kind of partnership if Derbyshire are to at least prevent an innings defeat.

  14. 50 runs

50 for James Colespublished at 12:54 BST 27 April

    Yorkshire 511 v Sussex 502 & 151-3 – Sussex lead by 142 runs

A 50 for James Coles and his partnership with fellow half-centurion Tom Clark is now worth more than 100.

  15. 50 runs

for Joe Clarkepublished at 12:51 BST 27 April

    Notts 279 & 406-4 v Warwicks 459

Joe Clarke edges Dan Mousley's arm ball just out of the reach of a diving first slip but a poor piece of fielding at third man gifts him a boundary and he goes to 50 off 130 balls.

    Notts 279 & 402-4 v Warwicks 459

    Richard Wilford

He's done some good things with the ball in T20 cricket - this is different, he's still got the L plates on.

  17. Postpublished at 12:47 BST 27 April

    Surrey 472 v Essex 409 & 84-1

Gus Atkinson bowled impressively at the start of the session, so Surrey have brought him back on for a second burst, hoping he can prise out one of these set batters prior to lunch.

Atkinson concedes two singles from a tidy first over, while Matt Fisher is toiling away in tandem without any reward so far.

Essex's lead of 21 is slim, but their route to safety is becoming clearer.

  18. 400 up for Nottspublished at 12:47 BST 27 April

    Notts 279 & 400-4 v Warwicks 459

Dan Mousley bowling from round the wicket. Kyle Verreynne takes a couple of steps towards him before clipping to mid-wicket for one as the Notts total, following on, reaches 400.

  19. Postpublished at 12:45 BST 27 April

    Glamorgan 440 & 0-0 v Leics 586-7 dec

They are back out in the middle at Sophia Gardens.

Eddie Byrom and Asa Tribe are the Glamorgan openers with the initial task of trying to clear their 146-run deficit.

Josh Davey takes the new ball.
