Chappell just doesn't look like getting out here, he's in control.

He's staring down every ball he faces.

    Surrey 472 v Essex 409 & 228-2

Normally, the final hour after tea on the final day is reserved as a space for captains who rarely bowl to bring themselves on.

However, Surrey are a bit behind the over-rate, so we're already viewing some of Rory Burns' medium-pacers this side of the interval, with Dan Lawrence operating at the other end.

Essex's progress has certainly slowed since that Tom Westley onslaught, but they're now 165 runs to the good.

A full-length delivery from Ben Green, Zain ul-Hassan tries to leave it along but the ball cannons into the stumps off the face of his bat.

Error of judgment by the Glamorgan opener - and they are still 77 behind as captain Kiran Carlson comes out to bat.

    Durham 193-2 – require 143 to win

To go back to why Tom Bailey is bowling spin for a moment.

Lancashire had former England Test spinner Tom Hartley in their travelling squad but he was not allowed to replace Arav Shetty under the ECB's injury substitute trial because he is more experienced.

So wicketkeeper-batter George Bell came in instead.

There was a similar incident last week involving Bailey and Ajeet Singh Dale.

It is down to the discretion of the umpire to decide what is like-for-like in terms of a replacement.

There has been a lot of talk around the subs trial and that looks set to continue one suspects.

    Derbys 281 & 239-9 v Glos 498

Muhammad Abbas is making a pitch here to move above Shoaib Bashir in the Derbyshire batting order!

The No 11 is looking pretty accomplished as he swats Gabe Bell through midwicket for four and he's made 14 of this last-wicket partnership with Zak Chappell, currently at 21.

Derbyshire's lead is still a modest 22, but much more of this will start to get the visitors a little anxious - especially the possibility of rain later.

    Notts 279 & 486-5 v Warwicks 459

Kyle Verreynne scampers a single off Beau Webster and reaches his 17th first-class century off 208 balls.

It's been a disciplined innings for his side, containing eight fours, and their lead is now north of 300 with 38 overs left in the day's play after this one.

    Glamorgan 440 & 60-1 v Leics 586-7 dec

Asa Tribe works a ball from Ben Green into the leg-side, comes back for a second run and that is a 50 partnership with Zain ul-Hassan.

    Joe Root has a third!

He is doing the business with the ball for Yorkshire and now has figures of 3-47 from 16 overs.

Tom Price his latest victim, being caught at backward point for 13.

    Westley c Sibley b Lawrence 136 (Surrey 472 v Essex 409 & 219-2)

Spectacular diving grab by Dom Sibley, running around from deep midwicket, brings this Essex partnership to an end!

Tom Westley has been pummelling the Surrey bowling for most of the afternoon and he launches another swing at Dan Lawrence, but Sibley does extremely well to race to his left and take the catch.

Essex lead by 156 as Charlie Allison comes to the middle.

    Derbys 281 & 228-9 v Glos 498

    Andrew Pugh

A lot of the shine will be coming off this ball now.

Gloucestershire did the most with it by removing Bashir and Reece.

  11. Durham require 150 to winpublished at 15:12 BST 27 April

    Durham 295 & 189-2 v Lancashire 370 & 260-9 dec

An interesting tactic from Lancashire skipper James Anderson as he asks fast/medium bowler Tom Bailey to switch to spin.

This is as a result of the only spinner who was in Lancs' original squad, Arav Shetty, being injured earlier in the contest and there being no other spin option available.

Our radio colleagues inform us that Bailey does have a handful of wickets bowling off breaks, but it's not his usual style.

However, Lancashire do need to try something different to remove this Durham duo who are putting the hosts well in the driving seat.

    Derbys 281 & 223-9 v Glos 498

Derbyshire's tail-end defiance continues in the shape of Muhammad Abbas, who guides Gabe Bell to third man for a couple and Zak Chappell entrusts him with the strike after the first ball of the next over.

Abbas picks up another couple to leg off Will Williams and that extends the home side's lead to all of six runs.

Remember the shot that brought up Boycott's 100th 100 at Headingley?

Asa Tribe loves that punch through mid-on too - he collects a third four off Ajaz Patel in identical fashion as Glamorgan's total passes 50.

  15. dropped catch

Dropped catch by Surreypublished at 15:02 BST 27 April

    Surrey 472 v Essex 409 & 193-1

There haven't been many chances this afternoon for Surrey, but this one should have been taken.

A rare lapse from Dean Elgar as he flicks Tom Lawes to square leg - and the tumbling Ollie Pope spills the catch.

With Essex already 130 to the good, it may make little difference in the long run. But still...

  16. Postpublished at 15:01 BST 27 April

    Durham 171-2 – require 165 to win

James Anderson is back on for Lancashire but that's an expensive one from the England legend.

He concedes 12 runs in his 12th over with Emilio Gay taking 11 of them with a couple of boundaries to boot.

Joe Clarks swings Rob Yates away to mid-wicket for four.

It's the last scoring stroke of his innings as Warwickshire finally have a breakthrough.

He is bowled by the spinner, attempting another big hit, ending a stand of 180 with Kyle Verreynne, who is 95 not out as Lyndon James joins him in the middle.

James drives his first ball for four.

    Simpson b Root 4 (Yorkshire 511 v Sussex 502 & 241-7 – Sussex lead by 232 runs)

Who do you call when you need a wicket?

    Joe Root of course.

John Simpson struck 136 in the first innings but he only gets four in the second as he's bowled by Root who has three wickets in the match now.

That was the second of a couple of quick wicket for Yorkshire after Dom Bess accounted for Jack Leaning who made 40.

The Sussex lead is 232 with three wickets in hand.

Tom Westley has played this shot a number of times today, but you can't get enough of a good thing.

Westley whips Tom Lawes through midwicket and there's his hundred, from 154 balls. It's the 33rd of his first-class career.

Essex are racing towards safety now.
