That is a massive six! Shafali Verma is in quite the mood.

  2. 6 runs

    Ind 44-1published at 3.3 overs

Chloe Tryon is welcomed into the attack with a boundary, Shafali Verma dancing down and driving through the covers.

Make that back-to-back fours, sweeping hard.

And then... SIX over mid-off. This is quite brutal striking.

I'm not sure why Smriti Mandhana felt she needed to try a shot like that because India had made a rollicking start. It doesn't feel like a shot she needed to play.

Well, that's more than a little unexpected.

Smriti Mandhana was looking so in control, picking gaps in the field for fun and chalking up three early boundaries.

But she goes across her stumps, attempting a funky ramp, and has them scattered by a pumped up Marizanne Kapp.

    Quite a needless shot.

  5. Ind 23-0published at 2 overs

An expensive over from Shabnim Ismail, who throws her arms in the air in frustration as Smriti Mandhana punches her penultimate delivery through the covers for four.

It's one of three boundaries in the over - two for Mandhana and one for Shafali Verma.

    14 from it.

Marizanne Kapp was looking good until that last ball, but she was probably just trying a little bit too hard.

I'm already thinking about what South Africa will be comfortable chasing because they haven't shown their best form in the World Cup yet and they've got a rejigged batting line-up today.

  7. Ind 9-0published at 1 over

A tidy enough over from Marizanne Kapp is spoiled by a loose final delivery, which Shafali Verma guides around her legs and fine for four.

Shabnim Ismail is the next bowler up for South Africa.

  8. Ind 2-0published at 0.1 overs

Smriti Mandhana picks up two between square and mid-wicket to get India's innings up and running at the first opportunity.

The players have made their way onto the field.

Remember, India won the toss and elected to bat so Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma are out in the middle.

Marizanne Kapp will open the bowling for South Africa.

Reigning 50-over champions India sit second in Group 1 with two wins from two.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s side comfortably beat Pakistan by 64 runs in their opener, with Deepti Sharma picking up 5-10, before completing an emphatic 95-run win over the Netherlands. Smriti Mandhana starred with the bat, smacking 74 runs off 47 balls.

South Africa, meanwhile, are fourth. The two-time runners-up lost to Australia by 65 runs before grinding out a nervy two-wicket over Pakistan to get their first points on the board.

Annerie Dercksen led the way in the latter match, top-scoring with 52 off 35 after Marizanne Kapp’s 3-23 had helped restrict Pakistan to 126-9.

South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt: "We probably would've batted as well. It's a big game for us. We would've liked runs on the board.

"We're trying not to think about the outcome too much. We know what's at stake. Take it one ball at a time and stay present.

"It's nice to have won against India recently but they've gotten the better of us at World Cups recently. Hopefully we can do that today.

"It's usually a bit slower here so we're bringing in batters [Dane van Niekerk and Tazmin Brits] who are good against spin."

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur: "It looks a good pitch so want to get a decent total on the board first.

"200 games, honestly it has been an amazing journey. I never thought I would come this far. I am so thankful to my family, team-mates, and the BCCI for all their support.

"We love having all the fans here, hopefully we can put in a performance in for them.

"Shreyanka Patil is missing with injury so Prema Rawat comes in for her debut. Kranti Gaud is resting today so Arundhati Reddy is playing.

"I told her [Prema] to just to enjoy the occasion, I feel like I am more nervous playing my 200th game than her first, because she seems very calm."

It’s time for a potentially blockbuster meeting between India and South Africa at Old Trafford.

Victory for India would see them join Australia on six points and leave South Africa staring elimination in the face. If South Africa win, the race for a top-two finish in Group 1 will remain wide open.

Toss and team news coming up.
