Have your say on England women this summer

  1. Eng 34-1published at 8.4 overs

Rosemary Mair replaces the impressive Jess Kerr, sending down a wide off her second delivery and from her fourth there's a half-hearted appeal for a catch as Heather Knight essays a nudge off her pads.

Keeper Izzy Gaze is keen for a review, but Melie Kerr ignores her to keep a review in her pocket.

We've seen a lot of plays and misses from Grewcock. That's probably where New Zealand are probably feeling a bit unlucky, that they haven't been able to get another wicket.

  3. Eng 33-1published at 8 overs

Bree Illing's next over is a bit of a mixed bag - a couple of nurdled singles, some gentle short stuff, a wide and then a beauty past Jodi Grewcock's outside edge.

  4. Eng 30-1published at 7 overs

Moving a middle-order batter up to the top of the order is a tough ask, and Jodi Grewcock is struggling to get going but after a nice nudge of her pads, Heather Knight keeps the score ticking over with a lovely clip off her legs through midwicket for another boundary

Jess Kerr, the biggest swinger of the new ball in women’s ODIs, is capitalising on conditions in Cardiff today. In her opening spell at Durham, Kerr was getting 3.2º of movement into the right-hander. Today that is up to 3.8º.

  6. Eng 25-1published at 6 overs

Bree Illing's radar is off a touch, another leg side wide being followed by leg byes run for two.

But then she gets one right on the spot, forcing a static Jodi Grewcock into a prod outside off stump. The opener than pulls a short one straight to mid on, and off the final delivery edges nervously through the slips for a single to third.

Jess Kerr is bowling really well here, swinging the ball. Obviously Heather Knight looks so much more comfortable out there to Grewcock.

  8. Eng 21-1published at 5 overs

Patience pays off for Heather Knight, who, after blocking inswinger after inswinger, pounces onto a slightly wider delivery, crunching it to the rope past cover.

  9. Eng 17-1published at 4 overs

A leg side wide from Bree Illing is parried away by keeper Izzy Gaze, and England scamper though for two.

The wobble on the ball is clearly testing either side of the stumps in these dank conditions.

It's always been a really tough place to bat. The pitch is nothing every to write home about. There are a lot of complaints about the wicket.

  11. Eng 15-1published at 3.2 overs

Bree Illing, left-arm over the wicket, slides one past Heather Knight's outside edge but then the former captain drives confidently to the rope to move off the mark.

This is where throwing a middle-order batter at the top can be tricky because Jodi Grewcock will rarely face a ball that moves this much.

  13. dropped catch

Grewcock dropped on 0published at 2.4 overs

    Eng 11-1

Jess Kerr takes the edge this time, but Izzy Gaze cannot take the chance. It's a tough one, dropping down in front of the keeper and the gloves hit the ground at the same time - but a chance never the less.

Jodi Grewcock gets off the mark with a drive for two off the next, but its a good time to bowl right now.

  14. Eng 9-1published at 2.2 overs

Jess Kerr is right on the money, hooping the ball past the left-handed Jodi Grewcock's outside edge twice in succession.

  15. Eng 9-1published at 2 overs

Bree Illing blots her copybook a bit, sending down a couple of wides to give new batter Heather Knight a bit of an easy start.

Emma Lamb looked really in control. Brilliant bit of bowling from Bree Illing. That's so frustrating because Lamb looked so good.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.2 overs

    Lamb c Gaze b Illing 7 (Eng 7-1)

Emma Lamb stroked Bree Illing's first ball to the cover boundary, but next up the bowler has her revebge, taking the edge and through to the keeper.

Lamb, who'd looked good, thought about reviewing but instead trudges off sadly.

  18. Eng 3-0published at 1 over

Jodi Grewcock isn't as confident-looking as her opening partner. She prods at her first delivery, which nips past the outside edge.

  19. Eng 3-0published at 0.5 overs

Another inswinging delivery is stroked through the covers for three to get England off the mark. In drier conditions that might have been four, but a fine slide and stop by Brooke Halliday saves a run.

  20. Eng 0-0published at 0.1 overs

Jess Kerr's first delivery is a big, hooping inswinger that Emma Lamb defends out into the off side.
