    Essex 149 & 36-1 v Somerset 348

Jake Ball to open the bowling to Paul Walter from the Sir Alastair Cook End.

Luc Benkenstein, the man surprisingly in at three ahead of Wiaan Mulder, leans on his bat at t'other end.

With some matches at tea and others not, it's very hard to get everything in sync, but those of you joining us, here are the latest scores from our nine games.

    Division One

    Chelmsford: Essex 149 & 36-1 v Somerset 348

    Trent Bridge: Nottinghamshire 279 & 189-3 v Glamorgan 113

    The Oval: Surrey 520 v Leicestershire 198-1

    Hove: Sussex 204 v Warwickshire 267 & 25-3

    Headingley: Yorkshire 177 v Hampshire 251 & 13-0

    Division Two

    Bristol: Gloucestershire 33-2 v Durham 605-5 dec

    Canterbury: Kent 7-0 v Northamptonshire 684-2 dec

    Old Trafford: Lancashire 351 v Derbyshire 187-3

    Lord's: Middlesex 183 v Worcestershire 191 & 134-1

  3. Postpublished at 16:05 BST 11 April

    Surrey 520 v Leics 198-1

    Cracking shot, Rishi Patel.

It's short and wide from Tom Lawes but Patel elegantly drives it off the back foot for four through the covers.

    In fine fettle.

  4. Rain brings early tea at Hovepublished at 16:04 BST 11 April

    Sussex 204 v Warwickshire 267 & 25-3

This game is hard to judge, it keeps swinging different ways more than the ball in the air and nearly as much as the loose swishing shots from so many top order batters.

Fynn Hudson Prentice's two-wicket over has given this afternoon session a better look for the home side.

    Still 36 overs remaining today.

  5. Tea at Trent Bridgepublished at 16:02 BST 11 April

    Notts 279 & 189-3 v Glamorgan 113

Nottinghamshire are well on top as we go to tea.

From 25-2 at the start of the session, they end it 188-3 with Joe Clarke unbeaten on 103 and Ben Slater falling for 70 just before the interval.

The lead is 355 runs and it seems a long way back for Glamorgan.

It's not taken long for widespread (dare we say liberal?) use of this new substitute rule, quelle surprise!

    Adam, Salford

There have certainly been a few subs called up in these early weeks, Adam. If it carries on like this, then maybe this new rule will have to be looked at closely.

  7. Postpublished at 15:59 BST 11 April

    Notts 279 & 186-3 v Glamorgan 113

Not a bad man to have coming to the crease for Notts after Ben Slater's dismissal, though.

Jack Haynes scored a vital century in the first innings.

  8. Crawley up and runningpublished at 15:59 BST 11 April

    Kent 7-0 v Northants 684-2 dec

Zak Crawley is off the mark with a four behind point off Harry Conway.

Pressure is on Crawley here. His spot as an England opener is certainly up for grabs and at the crease in this match, Kent are under huge scoreboard pressure.

He needs to bat big and long.

  9. Tea at Headingleypublished at 15:59 BST 11 April

    Yorks 351 v Hants 251 & 13-0

More rain is forcing the players from the pitch with Hants very much in charge at this point, Joe Weatherley and Nick Gubbins having seen off the first 5.5 overs of shiny new ball.

Overall, Hants are in a strong position after a terrific display to knock off Yorks final six wickets for 40 runs in their reply, one which left them trailing by 74 runs.

  10. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 15:56 BST 11 April

    Lancs 351 v Derbys 187-3

Not the greatest session for the hosts despite removing the two set batsmen as Derbys have moved from 65-1 to 152-3 at tea.

Brooke Guest (34*) and Martin Andersson (16*) have weathered the early storm to reach the break trailing by 164 runs.

With seven wickets still in tact the match looks well-balanced but frequent interruptions for rain are not helping the flow.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:55 BST 11 April

    Slater b Gorvin 70 (Notts 279 & 185-3 v Glamorgan 113)

    Ben Slater looks desolate.

It pitches on a length but stays desperately low from Andy Gorvin and Slater can't get his bat down in time to stop it hurtling through and ripping middle stump out the ground.

Slater is gone for a fine 70 from 139 balls and his 177-run partnership with Joe Clarke comes to an end.

    Kent 3-0 v Northants 684-2 dec

Mark in Herne Bay- was at St Lawrence yesterday and overheard one of our bowlers (won't name and shame) quite audibly moaning about the state of the pitch to a passing sub while fielding on the boundary. The words 'slow, flat, soft' all used. We'll see soon enough...

Al, thankfully not at St Lawrence

If the Kent wicket is that much of a road, the openers have very few excuses for low scores. A day and a half in the field is draining though.

    Paul, Kent

  13. Hat-trick ball!published at 15:53 BST 11 April

    Sussex 204 v Warwickshire 267 & 23-3

    Defended stoutly by Beau Webster.

  14. Postpublished at 15:53 BST 11 April

    Surrey 520 v Leics 174-1

Ian Holland is caught on the pads by Tom Lawes and the Surrey field go up... but it's probably going well over the top in truth and the umpire agrees. Not out.

  15. Postpublished at 15:52 BST 11 April

    Yorks 177 v Hants 251 & 13-0

It is gloomy at Headingley... and not just in the stands.

No sign of a breakthrough in the first five overs as Hants move to 13-0 and the lead to 87.

Joe Weatherley (2) and Nick Gubbins (11) have made a solid enough start but they will have a bit of Jack White to deal with now.

  16. 100 runs

100 for Joe Clarkepublished at 15:50 BST 11 April

    Notts 279 & 182-2 v Glamorgan 113

Joe Clarke releases the shoulders and crashes one for four through the covers off Mason Crane - and with that he goes to 100!

An excellent knock from the Notts number four, reaching his ton in just 122 balls with 14 fours and one six.

  17. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:50 BST 11 April

    Essex 149 & 36-1 v Somerset 348

141 + 60* and 18* means that Craig Overton is averaging 219 with the bat this season, all since being named skipper in Lewis Gregory's pectoral injury absence.

A brilliant knock from him, only soured by not getting the 350 batting bonus point before being all out.

Overton has not had much luck with the ball though, despite bowling well, turning to Jack Leach after eight overs a sign that this pitch is flattening out slightly.

  18. Postpublished at 15:48 BST 11 April

    Surrey 520 v Leics 172-1

First boundary of the innings for Ian Holland. Timed to perfection as he pushes Tom Lawes down the ground for four.

  19. wicket

    Hain lbw b Hudson-Prentice 0 (Sussex 204 v Warwickshire 267 & 23-3)

Another double wicket over in the 2026 County Championship!

Fynn Hudson-Prentice on a hat-trick as Sam Hain leaves one that comes in to him first ball.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:47 BST 11 April

    Mousley b Hudson-Prentice 12 (Sussex 204 v Warwickshire 267 & 23-2)

Dan Mousley enjoyed batting at first drop with his century in the opening round, but being bowled by FHP early today shows the tougher side of batting at three in first-class cricket.

12 off 10 balls was fairly rollicking but not the length of innings Warwickshire will want, Mousley falling to the same bowler in both innings.

Sam Hain is the Bears number four.
