The caveat here is none of these Irish bowlers have any mystery. Sri Lanka's spinners do have players with mystery spin in their ranks. That's also something Ireland do not really see a lot off so it will be a challenge when they come to bat.

Ireland have done well making Sri Lanka hit square. But this has been timid showing from their middle order so far.

Another tidy over from George Dockrell.

This looks like a really nervous Sri Lanka dug out at the moment. Fans here are expecting big things from the World Cup co-hosts.

It's looking good for Ireland at the moment.

  4. SL 71-3published at 11 overs

George Dockrell now has figures of 2-9 from three overs - superb stuff from the spinner.

Sri Lanka are struggling for runs and the pressure is on.

The question everyone had coming into this tournament was how Ireland's spin attack might hold up. At the moment spin coach Chris Brown will be delighted how this has gone.

Ireland's spinners are doing the business in Colombo - Gareth Delany concedes five runs and they'll be reasonably happy at the halfway stage of the Sri Lanka innings.

A lot of people might be wondering where Josh Little is. The chat around Little is he needs games. He's carried a lot of drinks on the franchise circuit, unfortunately. I spoke to Paul Stirling and he says Josh is a rhythm bowler.

He needs to bowl. With his pace he gets a lot of batters out caught hooking or cutting but needs that rhythm.

  9. SL 63-2published at 9 overs

A superb over from George Dockrell as he takes a vital wicket and goes for just two runs.

George Dockrell has been getting a lot of wickets like that. He doesn't bowl that full but when he does it tends to be wider. It's clever because he's hiding the ball outside the hitting arc. Very astute bowling.

    Nissanka c Stirling b Dockrell 24 (SL 62-2)

A big wicket for Ireland as opener Pathum Nissanka flashes wide and skipper Paul Stirling takes a comfortable catch.

I don't think there was plan to use George Dockrell until recently when he found some form with the ball. There might have been something action related but I think it was more ideological.

He didn't bowl for a few years and was reinvented as power hitter with the bat. Now he's a power hitter who bowls useful spin.

  13. SL 61-1published at 8 overs

More spin from Ireland in the shape of Gareth Delany and it's a decent opening over with seven runs added.

I thought Ireland would go to their second or third spinner earlier. Ireland's spinners have been in good form.

  15. SL 54-1published at 7 overs

Am impressive opening over from the experienced George Dockrell as just four runs come from his spin.

Well picked up by Kusal Mendis. It's not a bad delivery but he just shovels it.

  17. SL 50-1published at 6 overs

New batter Kusal Mendis turns on the style as he hits Barry McCarthy for three fine boundaries to end the powerplay.

  18. SL 38-1published at 5 overs

Sri Lanka going at over seven an over so far.

Superbly picked up Pathum Nissanka. He crouches down and produces a brilliant shot and it's disappeared into the crowd.
