Simple runs for Ireland as they take seven from that Dunith Wellalage over.

Real purpose and intent from Ross Adair. He's charging at the bowlers while the field is up. A little dance, a little shimmy, he slices it but it's up and over the in-field for four.

  3. Ire 45-1published at 6 overs

Ross Adair is in good touch as he hits Dushmantha Chameera for two more boundaries.

    Ireland going along nicely.

Ireland have got off to a decent start. This is something we've seen throughout this tournament - the underdog in each game has given a fright to the favourite.

Ireland are not far behind where Sri Lanka were at this stage but you do feel like there's been more dot balls in this Ireland innings. They've not been able to get the ball away and to the fielders in the deep. It's been all or nothing.

  6. Ire 34-1published at 5 overs

Just under seven an over so far for the Irish.

Ross Adair has sent this ball sailing. That's a monster hit over mid-wicket. What a shot.

Lovely slow-sweep from Ross Adair. He's good against spin. He needed that to release a bit of pressure.

  9. 6 runs

    Ire 34-1published at 4.4 overs

Ross Adair gets down on one knee and belts it long for a maximum.

Top edge and put down! It's the bowler Theekshana who is trying to console the fielder at short third. It went quite sharply but he should have taken it. He got his hands in the wrong position. He didn't hold onto it.

    Absolutely should have been taken.

  12. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 1.4 overs

Sri Lanka should have another but Ross Adair escapes as Kusal Mendis hosts drop a relatively simple catch.

He couldn't time the ball this evening, Paul Stirling. Theekshana pushes the ball off his middle finger and Stirling comes down and almost yorks himself.

Bowled him! He's been threatening for a while to pull that off. Theekshana is down on one knee doing his bow and arrow celebration. Paul Stirling fails to read another one.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 3.2 overs

    Stirling b Theekshana 6 (Ire 24-1)

Paul Stirling tries to dig out a straight delivery from Maheesh Theekshana but gets it all wrong and the ball smacks the stumps.

A big, big blow for Ireland to lose their skipper and talisman so early.

It's amazing that Pathirana had such a good over and he's still gone for 12 runs. That's bowling in the powerplay.

  17. Ire 24-0published at 3 overs

Paul Stirling and Ross Adair both pick up boundaries from Matheesha Pathirana's opening over.

So far, so good for the Irish openers.

Pathirana found himself out of the team for a while. He delivers the ball from so low, that slingy action, think of Malinga. Pathirana is very similar, releasing the ball from about a foot above the stumps.

He's so hard to pick when he bowls that shorter ball into the pitch. It skids on and gets to you faster than you're expecting.

  19. Ire 12-0published at 2 overs

A reprieve for Paul Stirling as Ireland make a steady start.

Nearly bowled him, nearly stumped him. Really untidy work there behind the stumps from the keeper trying to get the bails off. The bowler was already celebrating.
