A very, very special personal moment. Yes, the cause is not looking that bright for Sri Lanka but everything is a building block and Pavan Rathnayake will be around for a while, one assumes.

  2. 100 runs

Maiden ODI century for Rathnayakepublished at 42.5 overs

Pavan Rathnayake skips down the pitch and taps Liam Dawson into the covers for a single and reaches three figures in ODIs for the first time.

This is just the 23-year-old's fourth match for Sri Lanka in the format.

  3. SL 272-8published at 42.4 overs

Jeffrey Vandersay pokes a single off Liam Dawson to bring Pavan Rathnayake on strike.

Dawson beats the outside edge of Rathnayake's bat.

Whatever happens after the World Cup and whoever is in charge, a massive fielding boot camp for all squads is needed.

To be fair to Sri Lanka, they gave it a good go. But proved too much.

  7. Vandersay survivespublished at 41.4 overs

It definitely brushed the arm and UltraEdge shows there's no bat or glove. Jeffrey Vandersay remains at the crease for the time being.

  8. England reviewpublished at 41.4 overs

This looks to have struck Jeffrey Vandersay on the arm. Unless it's got a flicker of glove?

Given not out on the field.

  9. England reviewpublished at 41.4 overs

Jeffrey Vandersay attempts to sweep Adil Rashid but misses. There's a noise as it makes his way through to the gloves of Jos Buttler.

England take it upstairs for a look.

That's Wanindu Hasaranga's favourite stroke, hitting the ball towards extra cover.

He's picked up many runs in that position but this time he falters.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 41.2 overs

    Hasaranga c Duckett b Rashid 9 (SL 264-8)

Live by the sword. Die by the sword.

A couple of boundaries spanked by big-hitting Wanindu Hasaranga but he perishes not long after. Adil Rashid gives it a bit of air and Hasaranga takes the bait.

Hasaranga slices it high into the off side and this time Ben Duckett is able to hang on to the catch.

  12. SL 263-7published at 41 overs

Sumptuous piece of timing from Wanindu Hasaranga who stands tall to Sam Curran before stylishly stroking a drive through the covers.

Hasaranga collects another boundary next ball with a pull over mid-wicket.

It looks like he is going to have a bit of a dart at this chase.

This is brilliant stuff from Liam Dawson. He bowled it wider and with the arm.

The face of the bat opened and in the air. It's an easy catch for Will Jacks.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 40 overs

    Wellalage c Jacks b Dawson 22 (SL 252-7)

England content to accept singles at this stage. Liam Dawson bowls a full toss with his third ball but Dunith Wellalage creams it straight to the fielder at cover.

A couple of balls later and the pressure of missing out tells on Wellalage.

The Sri Lanka hacks at a slightly wider one outside of stump as Dawson dangles the carrot and it ends up going high into the night sky.

There's a bit of a debate among the fielders in the circle over who will catch it before Will Jacks steps into take it near point.

  15. SL 249-6published at 39 overs

    Target 158

A break from the spinfest as Sam Curran is chucked the ball.

The left-arm seamer comes round the wicket to the right-handed Pavan Rathnayake, who manages to extract three runs off the over.

Rathnayake into the nineties. Sri Lanka's run-rate nearly touching 10 an over now.

Why is Ben Duckett still there? He has done very little. Give him a rest.

  17. 6 runs

    SL 246-6published at 38 overs

Dunith Wellalage goes big against Jacob Bethell.

The Sri Lanka batter skips down the pitch then deposits the England left-arm spinner into the stands at long-off.

Ben Duckett had plenty of time to get underneath it and maybe he just misread the flight. He was not in a good position.
