Have your say on England men this summer

  1. Eng 120-9published at 34 overs

Shoaib Bashir joins Josh Tongue as England attempt to scramble as many last-gasp runs as possible.

Robinson was pretty quick to make his way off the pitch after his dismissal. He, Tongue and Gus Atkinson will be itching to get the ball in hand.

That's fantastic for Kyle Jamieson. It's been such a battle. He found it easy at the start [of his career], took a lot of wickets but he was such a good bowler. He then had to sit out because of two stress fractures. He's had to change things.

    But Blundell was right!

There's a tiny spike as the ball passes the bottom of Ollie Robinson's bat, another one that keeps low and he swishes outside off stump.

Kyle Jamieson has his five-for. He has been sensational.

  4. NZ reviewpublished at 33.3 overs

We've got a review for something, I think it's for a catch behind but it's hard to tell because Jamieson didn't go up for it, and keeper Tom Blundell gave half an appeal.

Right, let's finally restart. Ollie Robinson faces up to Kyle Jamieson, who has figures of 4-50.

There have been some questionable shots from England's batters but New Zealand have bowled beautifully, especially considering they are a seamer down with Matt Henry's back troubles.

It helps when you have Kane Williamson taking catches like this, too.

Play will restart at 16:51 BST.

It's dry and there are no covers on, so I can only assume there must be some surface water to get rid of, otherwise it looks like they could be getting back out there sooner.

    Good news!

Most of the covers are off, the skies are bright and you can almost see the sun. The umpires will be heading out for their inspection shortly so hopefully we'll see some play soon.

Just a few days ago, it was announced that the ICC would be trialling the use of pink balls to limit bad light delays like we've just had.

Pink ball Tests have been in existence since 2015 but it's never been interchangeable with the red ball before.

A timeframe is yet to be decided, so it's not in place to be used at the moment. When introduced, both teams involved in a Test would have to give prior agreement that a pink ball can be used in instances of bad light.

Saying that, it might be more enjoyable than watching England's batting.

    Thanks, Sam.

And thank goodness that the weather is improving, because nobody should have to put up with me chatting nonsense for two hours (possibly even longer).

The evening session would have been starting about now were in not for that brief, but heavy, downpour.

Instead, although we now have bright sunshine, we will have to wait a little longer to get the surface fit for play.

It shouldn't take too long so Ffion Wynne should have more cricket to tell you about in the not-too-distant future.

It is already looking much brighter here... and, actually, the rain seems to have stopped.

The sun is shining so light is certainly not an issue. A quick clean up and hopefully it won't be too long until they're back under way.

Still chucking it down here at Lord's and the groundstaff are getting the covers pegged down.

While we wait for the rain to stop, here's a look at the best shots from an entertaining Harry Brook innings...

  15. rain stops play

    It's raining...published at 16:03 BST 4 June

    Ah, here comes the rain.

It's hammering it down now. I can confidently state that they will be off for more than 20 minutes.

How much longer depends on how long this downpour lasts.

  16. Postpublished at 15:59 BST 4 June

More covers are coming on now. Are the groundstaff anticipating another downpour or is this just precautionary?

    We shall see.

Anyway, a disappointing day for England's batters but I think a lot of credit has to go to the New Zealand attack.

They've been a bowler down from 10 overs in and have largely earned their wickets rather than being gifted them by the batters.

  17. Tea has been takenpublished at 15:55 BST 4 June

    Eng 118-8

    Confirmation that that is tea.

The big cover is coming on, rain may not be far away.

If that is the case, we can only hope that it passes through quickly and the light improves.

We've got another 50-odd overs left in the day after all.

    Eng 118-8

Well, just one ball into the over and the umpires decide the light is not good enough to continue.

The players head off and I'd imagine tea will be taken.

Excellent session for New Zealand, despite two dropped catches. A struggle for England with Harry Brook's half-century their own score of note.

  20. Eng 118-8published at 33 overs

Ollie Robinson clips the ball down to fine leg to get off the mark with a single before Josh Tongue manages to negotiate the last four balls of the over.

It has suddenly got very gloomy again at Lord's. No rain yet but the light may become an issue before too long anyway.
