Ollie Robinson has been bang on target. Devon Conway is looking exasperated but you're gambling if you're playing it so square on the leg side.

    Conway lbw b Robinson 1 (NZ 2-1)

Umpire's call! It is just clipping leg stump as the ball nips back sharply down the slope, so you can understand why Conway reviewed.

A brilliant start for Robinson and England.

    What a return!

Ollie Robinson pins Devon Conway in front, and it's given!

  4. NZ 2-0published at 1 over

An accurate start from Gus Atkinson, just two singles from the over, and it looks like it's going to be Ollie Robinson sharing the new ball with him.

A big occasion for the seamer to prove himself after a two-year absence.

  5. NZ 0-0published at 0.1 overs

The first ball is full, straight and solidly defended by Tom Latham.

Right then, here come the New Zealand openers Devon Conway and captain Tom Latham.

Gus Atkinson will take the first over for England. Can someone produce a spell like Kyle Jamieson for England to fight back?

New Zealand benefited from the fact is was on and off, a stop-start day. It gave the bowlers the opportunity to rest and recuperate off the pitch. It meant when they came back on they could make the most of the perfect bowling conditions they were given.

There are a couple [of dismissals] you could blame to the batter but I thought it was fundamentally a really good bowling performance.

That's Shoaib Bashir's highest score in Tests. A few useful runs for England at the end of the innings.

He'll take a backseat now, though, as the seamers go to work on a pitch that is still likely to offer them plenty of assistance.

The New Zealand bowlers have given them a good example of how to go about it.

After all his travails, coming back from a two year break, it's good that Kyle Jamieson can work so hard and gets a chance to come and play at Lord's.

They've been able to dismiss England for a small-ish total. I don't think it's going to be easy batting for the New Zealanders either.

    Bashir c Williamson b Smith 14 (Eng 140)

And that is that! England are skittled for 140 on day one of the Test summer.

Shoaib Bashir and Josh Tongue had a bit of fun in their partnership of 22, which was the second-highest of the day, before Bashir nicks a good-length delivery from Nathan Smith to slip for 14.

Job done for New Zealand, who have made the most of very helpful conditions. Time to see if England can do the same...

    Another maiden from O'Rourke.

New Zealand probably don't mind this. I can't imagine their batters are particularly keen to get out there and bat tonight.

  13. Eng 136-9published at 38 overs

This last-wicket pair are navigating things pretty well at the moment. Both have reached double figures, which is quite an achievement considering what came before them, as Bashir works a couple off his pads before crunching one through the covers for two more.

Ben Stokes applauds their efforts from the Lord's balcony.

  14. Eng 132-9published at 37 overs

Will O'Rourke tests Josh Tongue with a couple of short balls, but he's happy to leave them alone for now.

    A maiden.

  15. Eng 132-9published at 36 overs

    Hello!

Useful runs for Shoaib Bashir, as he slashes a wide delivery over the slips for four before driving fluently for a couple.

Today, Kyle Jamieson claimed his sixth five-wicket haul in Test cricket. His last five-fer came against India in the World Test Championship final on 18 June 2021 - a gap of 1,812 days.

This has got to be one of the tallest bowling duos in the game at the moment, surely?

Will O'Rourke charges in, but is driven nicely for four by Josh Tongue at the end of his over.

Side note, how long is it going to take until we get bowling conditions like this and no longer immediately think, "Broad and Anderson would be unplayable here"?
