Have your say on England men this summer

  1. NZ 76-2published at 27 overs

Josh Tongue takes the ball at the other end and, bowling round the wicket, he starts with a maiden to Rachin Ravindra.

A sharp delivery has Ravindra jamming his bat down, a little nick onto the pads for a delivery that was heading down leg anyway.

How about the unforgettable Arthur Augustus Farmer, who was also a barrister.

    Timothy, Lydney

John Shepherd - great Kent all-rounder.

This is Ravindra's 23rd Test match. It's his fifth Test against England, he's yet to put up a half-century against them.

  4. NZ 76-2published at 26 overs

As fans continue to filter back into the stands at The Oval, one run comes off Matthew Fisher's over.

It comes from the penultimate delivery, as Rachin Ravindra chops an edge past his leg stump and runs a single.

Edward Turner (working hard in the Midlands): For the all-time professions XI, how can we not have Keith Miller?

Robert Johnson, Harlow: Bert "Dainty" Ironmonger, who had great Test stats. He was 46 on his debut, & nearly 51 when he quit after the 1933 Bodyline series. He spun the ball with fingers mangled in a farming accident, took 74 Test wickets at 17.97, including 11 for 24 v South Africa in 1932.

Paul Breese, St Helens: Re: Cricketers with jobs as names. Ollie Pope?

We've also had about 1,000 nominations for Farokh Engineer and Ian Bishop, and it feels unfair to pick just one of you...

And if you're wondering how New Zealand's first wicket fell - well, here it is.

A first catch in Test cricket for James Rew, and a wicket for Matthew Fisher on his return after over four years away.

Speaking of excellent fielding, I think we should all take another look at Jacob Bethell's fantastic catch to remove Tom Latham.

James Rew has been pretty much impeccable in his first stint here.

I think New Zealand will be pretty happy with that first session, having lost the toss. It's about even Stevens out there though at the moment.

Thanks Mr A, and hello all.

Not a bad little session that.

I'm sat listening to the happy murmur of lunch time at The Oval, lovely stuff.

Henry Nicholls leaves the final delivery of Jofra Archer's over alone.

    That's lunch.

I'm off to fetch some scran of my own. Here's Mike Peter.

  14. NZ 75-2published at 24.5 overs

Jofra Archer squares up Henry Nicholls who defends and edges it between second slip and gully.

Would it have carried to a third or fourth slip? Possisbly not.

England need to start bowling over the wicket and bring the pads into play.

  16. NZ 71-2published at 24.2 overs

Jofra Archer with the last over of the morning session, bowling round the wicket.

Henry Nicholls shoulders arms to his first couple of deliveries.

There's been a lot of short of the length bowling here today. There's been a slight element of protection, not easy to score on. New Zealand are just waiting.

  18. NZ 71-2published at 24 overs

Rachin Ravindra picks up three with a checked drive off Matthew Fisher with Jordan Cox sliding on the boundary to prevent the four.

The third umpire checks he has done so cleanly.

Time for one more over? Just about.

  19. NZ 66-2published at 23 overs

Six minutes to go before lunch as Matt Fisher begins his seventh over.

Might be a few shoelaces that conveniently need tying for Rachin Ravindra and Henry Nicholls here.

We've seen something today that's never happened in a Test match in England, a top four of all left handed players.

It's the 26th time it's happened in Test cricket, all in this millennium, it never happened before 2001. It's also the first time that New Zealand have had an exclusively left hand top four.
