    First boundary of the session.

Josh Tongue's 87mph delivery clips the leg of Rachin Ravindra, who can't get his bat on the ball to play the glance. It runs away for four leg byes.

Tongue then cuts his final delivery through the New Zealand number four - unclear if the ball took an edge before it died just in front of James Rew.

Some aristocratic cricketing profession surnames: Harry Duke, Heather Knight, and Lester King. Jos Buttler is the family retainer.

    Ben, Bristol

What about Mike Proctor? A proctor is a supervisor or monitor who oversees an examination.

    Peter, Bristol

For professions, could we have Bert Vogler? Either a South African spinner, or a German bird-catcher.

    Kit, Glasgow

Never heard of a 'Vogler' before, Kit. Every day you learn something new...

  4. NZ 81-3published at 30 overs

    Careful, Daryl.

The New Zealand number five goes fishing outside off stump and comes pretty close to offering an edge behind off Matthew Fisher.

Josh Tongue looking to target the stumps, as he often does. 11% of his deliveries in Tests would have hit the stumps - Ollie Robinson is the only active England seamer with a higher percentage in the last five years.

Your technique has to be spot on against Tongue. You have to be thinking about every ball that he bowls and very technically tuned in or it will be hitting you on the pad before you know it.

  7. NZ 80-3published at 29 overs

Daryl Mitchell comes in at five for New Zealand.

He gets down to the non-striker's end immediately, running a bye as a delivery from Josh Tongue, now coming over the wicket to the right-hander, flies down the leg side.

James Rew blocks, but is unable to entirely stop, the rising delivery.

That's what Josh Tongue gives you. That angle just jagging in to Nicholls. He just gets you jumping about, makes your life awkward, even on a flat pitch.

Now England are thinking, crikey, we've done the hard work in the first session, now let's crack on.

    Bowled him!

Henry Nicholls' first Test since last August comes to an end - the Kane Williamson replacement departs for 24.

He's hurried a touch by some extra pace for Josh Tongue, with the left-hander chopping onto his stumps from a delivery round the wicket that was a little short of a length.

The New Zealand batters exchange a couple of leg side singles off Matthew Fisher's second over after lunch.

It's mostly blue skies at The Oval, with a dusting of cloud.

A question for you... will Harry Brook bowl at some point in this session?

  13. NZ 76-2published at 27 overs

Josh Tongue takes the ball at the other end and, bowling round the wicket, he starts with a maiden to Rachin Ravindra.

A sharp delivery has Ravindra jamming his bat down, a little nick onto the pads for a delivery that was heading down leg anyway.

We need someone who is well turned out behind the stumps for the professions XI - I give you - Bob Taylor!

    Jim, Haworth

How about the unforgettable Arthur Augustus Farmer, who was also a barrister.

    Timothy, Lydney

John Shepherd - great Kent all-rounder.

    Geordie, Canterbury

This is Ravindra's 23rd Test match. It's his fifth Test against England, he's yet to put up a half-century against them.

  16. NZ 76-2published at 26 overs

As fans continue to filter back into the stands at The Oval, one run comes off Matthew Fisher's over.

It comes from the penultimate delivery, as Rachin Ravindra chops an edge past his leg stump and runs a single.

Edward Turner (working hard in the Midlands): For the all-time professions XI, how can we not have Keith Miller?

Robert Johnson, Harlow: Bert "Dainty" Ironmonger, who had great Test stats. He was 46 on his debut, & nearly 51 when he quit after the 1933 Bodyline series. He spun the ball with fingers mangled in a farming accident, took 74 Test wickets at 17.97, including 11 for 24 v South Africa in 1932.

Paul Breese, St Helens: Re: Cricketers with jobs as names. Ollie Pope?

We've also had about 1,000 nominations for Farokh Engineer and Ian Bishop, and it feels unfair to pick just one of you...

And if you're wondering how New Zealand's first wicket fell - well, here it is.

A first catch in Test cricket for James Rew, and a wicket for Matthew Fisher on his return after over four years away.

Speaking of excellent fielding, I think we should all take another look at Jacob Bethell's fantastic catch to remove Tom Latham.
