I'm surprised that many people take the fruit during an innings. I don't think I ever had food run on to the pitch for me during a game, maybe someone occasionally asked for a banana or something.

But it's not often you feel the need for a snack 14 overs in to a must-win T20 World Cup match.

  2. NZ 90-6published at 15 overs

New Zealand have almost ground to a halt here.

Another over goes by with only two from it - and it could have been worse with Mitchell Santner extremely close to feathering behind on the cut off Dunith Wellalage.

We are definitely seeing signs of this pitch just starting to spin a bit more. That last ball from Dunith Wellalage just started to grab a little bit.

Sri Lanka made the call to bowl first after predicting this pitch will get a little trickier, and the new ball is always harder to bat. They will be hoping the dew picks up a little before their innings as well.

Let's see if their tactics work...

Warm enough to have English spinners across the land dreaming of turning conditions akin to those we're seeing in Sri Lanka today, Mike...

Charith Asalanka's latest over of off-spin goes for just two and it is time for drinks.

Cole McConchie is at the crease now for New Zealand, alongside skipper Mitchell Santner.

Just seven overs left in the innings but the Back Caps need to steady themselves after losing three wickets without scoring a run.

It's 3-3 in the past two overs.

Sri Lanka are all over them now! There are big celebrations down in the huddle.

Daryl Mitchell was playing for spin that time but the ball just skidded on, going through the gate, and it was just the slightest of gap between bat and pad.

Daryl Mitchell cannot believe it - he is staring at the pitch.

Slides through the gate and New Zealand are reeling!

What a spell for Sri Lanka as Dunith Wellalage joins the party by bowling Daryl Mitchell.

The Black Caps right-hander played for spin but the ball skidded on, between bat and pad and onto the stumps.

Sri Lanka are well on top now.

Magnificent from Maheesh Theekshana. He's got 3-9 from three overs with two wickets and just one run conceded in that one.

Coming up to the halfway point of the innings, New Zealand looked to be on top. The hosts have completed turned that around now.

That's an off-spinner's dream for Maheesh Theekshana.

It was round the wicket, he angled that ball and pitched it on middle stump. It was a regulation off-spinner that he got good revs on to.

Sri Lanka will now feel they are on top.

    That is a beauty!

About as good as it gets for an off-spinner from Maheesh Theekshana.

He's round the wicket to the left-hander Mark Chapman, pitches it on middle and the ball turns sharply past the batter's forward defensive shot to hit the top of off.

    Just brilliant.

Rachin Ravindra will be disappointed with that. You can see it on his face. He knows he should've done better with that because it was slow, wide and almost off stump.

He took the bait, slashed at it and could only find the man at backward point.

It was up in the air and straight to backward point.

Maheesh Theekshana gets his second wicket and it was a simple catch for backward point.

New Zealand lose another wicket, just as things were starting to look a little more settled.

  15. wicket

    Ravindra c Hemantha b Theekshana 32 (NZ 84-4)

Big wicket - and a bit of a giveaway from Rachin Ravindra!

A hint of width outside off and that was enough for Ravndra's eyes to light up and he tries to thrash it through point.

It's never that simple when Maheesh Theekshana is bowling, though. There's no pace to work with and the ball is skewed to the fielder at backward point.

  16. NZ 83-3published at 11 overs

Dunith Wellalage pulls things back a little after that boundary with singles from the next four balls.

Eight from the over and both sides will fancy that a good second half will put them in a strong position at the end of the innings.

  17. NZ 79-3published at 10.2 overs

Great timing again from Rachin Ravindra.

Too full from Dunith Wellalage and wide enough that Ravindra could free his arms and whip it leg side on the sweep.

Well in front of square and into the gap between the two fielders in the deep.

The wicket in the last over and that excellent delivery from Dushmantha Chameera has just broken things open a little bit for the home side here.

Dushmantha Chameera completes another fine over, the fast bowler has taken 2-8 from his first two overs.

That second wicket was much-needed for Sri Lanka with New Zealand begins to up the ante.

Rachin Ravindra is still there after that drop, though, and he's been joined by Daryl Mitchell.
