How bad is this from Sri Lanka? Two stumpings in two legal deliveries!

Mathematically it's possible but realisitically they won't get anywhere near this total now.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 10.3 overs

    Shanaka c Allen b Ravindra 3 (SL 46-5)

It goes from bad to worse for Sri Lanka as their captain falls for just three runs!

There was minimal thought-process behind Dasun Shanaka's uncontrolled swing at the ball - and it finds Finn Allen for an easy catch.

They are now 46-5 in a must-win game...

  4. SL 45-4published at 10 overs

Sri Lanka will be bitterly disappointed with the first half of their innings at Premadasa Stadium.

Kamindu Mendis manages to find the fine leg boundary for a four as they take nine runs off the over.

They have built up just 44 runs from the opening 10 overs. New Zealand were 75-3 at this stage in their innings.

When you bat so poorly while chasing in your previuous match, why take that pressure again? Why would you win the toss and elect to bowl first? Just put runs on the board... put the pressure back on the opposition.

  6. SL 36-4published at 9 overs

Rachin Ravindra sees his opening over out having picked up two wickets for just nine runs.

A practically perfect start for the slow left-armer, who only concedes a boundary when Matt Henry is unable to prevent a four at fine leg.

Rathnayake st Seifert b Ravindra 10 (SL 29-4)

And again! It's two wickets in two legal deliveries as Rachin Ravindra tempts Pavan Rathnayake into a run down the track and Tim Seifert does the rest, whipping the bails off. Sri Lanka are imploding.

It was good captaincy to bring Ravindra intro the attack, knowing this pitch is offering turn, and good work by the bowler to execute the plan.

Kusal Mendis just walked off - he knew he was out.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 8.1 overs

Mendis st Seifert b Ravindra 11 (SL 27-3)

    Tim Seifert stumps Kusal Mendis!

Sri Lanka's batter had to be ambitious there with a monumental run chase on the cards, but the wicketkeeper is quick to react behind the stumps and Mendis is stumped with his foot in the air.

A costly error of judgement from the opener.

  11. SL 27-2published at 8 overs

Sri Lanka's hunt for a boundary continues.

Dasun Shanaka's team have now gone three full overs without a four or six. The dot balls and singles are flooding in - anyone would think this was a practice run!

Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi's opening over goes for just four runs.

In case you were wondering just how much this game had changed, Sri Lanka have gone from 79% on WinViz with five overs left of the New Zealand innings, to just 16% seven overs into their.

An enormous swing in just 12 overs of cricket...

  13. SL 23-2published at 7 overs

New Zealand are doing an excellent job of stifling Kusal Mendis and Pavan Rathnayake in the crease.

Captain Mitch Santner concedes just three runs from his latest over. Sri Lanka should be desperately searching for the boundary rope, but they cannot even get a look in at the moment.

At 23-2, their required run-rate is just going up and up and up.

We had an all-timer of a bad powerplay for Pretoria Capitals in the SA20. After 4.5 overs, batting first, we were 7-5!

    And we won the game!

If we were to describe a bad powerplay, we'd describe this one!

  16. SL 20-2published at 6 overs

Sri Lanka finish the powerplay by taking a disappointing two runs off Lockie Ferguson.

The right-arm fast bowler is finding a lot of joy off his yorker-length bowling at the minute. It really is keeping Sri Lanka's batters pinned in the crease.

Time to kick on, Sri Lanka!

It's still a very manageable total but it's been a very poor start.

This is not what Sri Lanka had in mind in their powerplay - that wicket of Nissanka really did rock them back and like against England when he fell early, you can almost see the confidence drop from their batting order.

Sri Lanka take six runs off New Zealand captain Mitch Santner's opening over as Kusal Mendis squeezes a four out towards deep square leg.

They are currently hitting at a run rate of 3.52... which unfortunately is nowhere near enough to make a dent in this run chase.

This is the second Sri Lanka wicket to fall. Clever bowling by Matt Henry.
