Cole McConchie is bowling equally as beautifully as he batted in the New Zealand innings.

His second over goes for just two runs, with his tight and flat bowling style restricting Sri Lanka to four dot balls.

Are Sri Lanka going to be allowed to kick on before the end of this powerplay?

It's about steadying the ship now because once you have a partnership of 30-40 runs, things start happening. We saw that with New Zealand too when Mitchell Santner and Cole McConchie came together. You can't go into your shell though. Don't play the high-risk shot but have positive intent.

Matt Henry knows he's off to a dream start - and he cannot help but grin from ear to ear after his latest set goes for just three runs.

Pavan Rathnayake comes in at number four, hitting three runs off his first four balls.

Let's hope he can steady the ship for Sri Lanka, with the help of opener Kusal Mendis.

The key is Matt Henry's length - it's slightly on the shorter side, but not short enough for the batters to play into the off side or pull it. It's been perfect bowling so far.

    Asalanka c Mitchell b Henry 5 (SL 6-2)

Matt Henry is having a day out. He bowls a hard length, taking some pace off the ball, Asalanka plays an ugly swipe and the ball spoons up to Daryl Mitchell for an easy catch.

Sri Lanka are on the board after a less than ideal start at Premadasa Stadium...

Cole McConchie is the next to step up with the ball in hand and he only gives up a single boundary from his opening set.

Sri Lanka take six off the over thanks to a one-bounce four towards deep forward square leg.

Sri Lanka can't afford to go too hard and lose a few early wickets like they did in their last game against England.

Sri Lanka are certainly feeling the pressure here.

They fail to put any runs on the board off the opening over of the powerplay, limited by some tight bowling off Matt Henry.

He will be happy with his first-over wicket-maiden.

What a way to start - he's the guy in form so that puts Sri Lanka under real pressure now. There was no footwork at all and he tried to cut a ball which wasn't short enough to cut.

Matt Henry culls big-hitter Pathum Nissanka with the first ball!

A nightmare start for Sri Lanka, who are looking to chase down 169 runs, as Nissanka is leaden-footed and is bowled by a ball which cuts in and hits the top of middle.

There are glum faces galore in the Sri Lanka dugout right now.

    Thank you, Sam!

Let's see what Sri Lanka can do to rein this run chase in then.

Remember, both sides are battling for survival at the T20 World Cup here in Colombo, so these are high stakes...

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis walk out to the middle and things are about to get under way.

Right then, it's almost time for Sri Lanka to start their chase so I will get out of the way and leave you in the capable hands of Millie Sian.

This one really does feel in the balance at the halfway stage...

It just seems like the bowlers completely lost the plot in the last four or five overs.

That can happen in T20 cricket when the batters are trying to go hard at you, but still there was also a lack of execution from the bowlers.

The Black Caps are no pushovers when in the mood. Sri Lanka will be there for the taking with the bat. It sets this one up nicely.

  18. Sri Lanka need 169 to winpublished at 15:22 GMT 25 February

The strangest of innings, twisting and turning time and again. Sri Lanka got a couple of early wickets, New Zealand recovered and were going well only for a mid-innings collapse to leave them in huge trouble.

Then came an 84-run stand between Mitchell Santner and Cole McConchie to take the Black Caps to a competitive total.

Pressure on Sri Lanka in what is a must-win game for the tournament co-hosts.

If you are New Zealand, you are happy after that innings.

At this point in time, considering where you were and where you ended your innings, you would be very happy with your innings.

They can be happy with the way they batted in the last four or five overs to get themselves to 168. It was an extraordinary effort, I don't think anyone had them down to post over 140 at one point.

Now Sri Lanka's batting really needs to click tonight.

    Santner c Asalanka b Chameera 47 (NZ 168-7)

Superb catch to end a bizarre innings.

Drilled towards extra cover by Mitchell Santner but Charith Asalanka dives to his right to take a brilliant, flying catch.

It sees Santner fall just shy of his half-century but that partnership with Cole McConchie has given New Zealand a real chance when they had appeared down and out.
