They're quite optimistic and rightly so, he's gone!

Oh dear. Is this a run out?

I think Jofra Archer was aiming for a yorker but Sundar just anticipated that one and thudded it through to extra cover.

  4. Ind 157-2published at 26.4 overs

Jofra Archer concedes two singles in the first half of the over and then... he oversteps. No ball.

Washington Sundar drives the next ball through the covers for four.

As much as Liam Dawson batted really well, it’s really disappointing Rehan Ahmed can’t get a game. He follows the squad around carrying drinks. How is he ever going to improve?

    Jack, Manchester

There has been talk of Sam Curran taking Ben Stokes' place as the all-rounder in Test side. At this moment Curran is playing the all-rounder nicely - his bowling is going all-round the park!

    Trevor, Clitheroe

Wrong selection. Wrong call at the toss. Not looking dangerous at all. I’m not convinced Harry Brook is ready for Test captain.

    John, Newcastle Upon Tyne

  6. India 150-2published at 26 overs

    Target 259

Washington Sundar gets off the mark at the second time of asking. His single brings up India's 150.

Harry Brook tosses the ball to Jofra Archer, who has three overs left.

That's a rather sad end to a very graceful innings. It was very polished, he's such a good player to watch.

If it's a genuine hamstring injury, he's going to be out for the series.

  9. Gill retires hurt on 80published at 25.4 overs

    Ind 149-2

Shubman Gill is hobbling and grimacing as he slowly leaves the field. He's retiring hurt on 80 (75).

Washington Sundar runs on to replace him.

India need 110 runs from 24.2 overs - a required rate of 4.52.

Shubman Gill has done enough to win them the game.

If it's something other than cramp, the wise thing to do would be to come off.

  12. Ind 149-2published at 25.4 overs

Shubman Gill wallops his way into the 80s, taking a short ball from Josh Tongue at shoulder height and pulling hard to the rope.

He is furious with a slash and miss off the next delivery and is in visible pain after a second slash and miss.

Gill calls for the physio and is bent double in front of the square leg umpire when he arrives.

How bad is Shubman Gill's injury? There's enough overs left where they can get another batter in.

  16. Ind 141-2published at 24 overs

    Target 259

Shubman Gill comes through for an uncomfortable single. It's his right hamstring.

He and Shreyas Iyer exchange another single and then Gill lunges forward to sweep Will Jacks to the rope. It's another painful one for the India skipper.

  17. Postpublished at 17:03 BST

Will Jacks is animated as he moves fielders around ahead of his first over.

Shubman Gill is sat on the floor using the physio's body for shade. Then he has a bit of a stretch.

  18. Ind 135-2published at 23 overs

    Target 259

Liam Dawson enters the attack and concedes six runs. One of them is a wide, taking England's extras tally to 19. That's more than the combined contribution of Rohit Sharma (11) and Virat Kohli (5).

Jacob Bethell isn't asking any questions of the Indian batters here. He's just placing the ball and not finding any real turn.
