Your views on England's tour of Sri Lanka

  1. SL 105-3published at 27 overs

Adil Rashid returns in the place of Will Jacks, I guess we could even see Joe Root to make it six spinners in the attack as well?

Neat and tidy stuff again, just three from it, and it is now 51 deliveries since the last boundary.

Thank you, Tim, and thank you for avoiding the word nurdle so far because that's the way to describe Sri Lanka's current mode of scoring against this all-spin attack.

Rehan Ahmed whirls away and Dhananjaya de Silva slogs him aggresively, but he can only glean the one as the leggie concedes just three from his third over.

  4. Postpublished at 10:41 GMT 24 January

It's going to continue to be attritional during this middle period as Sri Lanka continue to work the ball into the gaps against England's spin attack.

A man suited for graft of any kind is Tim Oscroft. He'll pick things up from here.

  5. SL 99-3published at 25 overs

Dhananjaya de Silva slaps Will Jacks after being given a bit of width but well fielded in the covers to prevent the boundary.

Later in the over Jacks fizzes one past Dhananjaya's bat, as he attempts to guide it fine, and it goes within a whisker of off stump with one that goes straight on.

I like the Rehan Ahmed opening idea. If most of the middle order will struggle coming in against spin needing six runs an over, let's mix it up a bit! It took until Jamie Overton last time to find out who was able to strike it cleanly on the day.

  7. SL 95-3published at 24 overs

Rehan Ahmed, slated to open the batting, playing a part with his leggies here.

He's pushing it through to Sri Lanka's batters at the moment as England continue to apply the squeeze.

Is there a big shot coming here?

  8. SL 92-3published at 23 overs

Much, much, better from Will Jacks. Sri Lanka dealing nearly exclusively in singles and twos at the moment. They are attempting to give themselves some sort of platform here.

Rehan Ahmed with his first over of the day. Dhananjaya de Silva and Charith Asalanka take look. Four runs off the over. Plenty of prodding and poking from this Sri Lankan pair.

  11. SL 84-3published at 21 overs

Loving the Haircut XI suggestions. Sir James has had red and blue streaks during his career as well.

A bit better from Will Jacks as he gets control of his length.

Haircut XI - surely we have to talk about the sonic the hedgehog impressions Jimmy Anderson and KP sported in their early careers?

Left-arm spinner Liam Dawson whirls away bringing a bit more control than Will Jacks.

Harry Brook content to stick to spin for the time being.

That's the problem with will Jacks, he can't bowl a consistent length.

  15. SL 76-3published at 19 overs

Will Jacks, round the wicket, with a bit of a pie outside off stump which is creamed through the covers for four by Dhananjaya de Silva.

  16. SL 72-3published at 18 overs

Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka the new batter.

Liam Dawson rattles through the remainder of the over. Dhananjaya de Silva and Asalanka decided to rotate the strike. Perhaps a bit of a rebuild required here.

In Columbo with my wife. Her first ever game of cricket. Coaxed her here in exchange for a two-week holiday. She’s enjoyed herself so far, which bodes well for future trips. South Africa 2027?

The decision was very obvious. Kusal Mendis was back in the pavilion, he knew he was out. It was a classic miscommunication. Mendis was thinking there was a run but at the other end nothing was happening. By the time they realised, it was too late.

    Mendis run out (Jacks/Buttler) 26 (SL 68-3)

Sri Lanka's top scorer from the fist ODI is on his way back to the pavilion.

Kusal Mendis had hit Liam Dawson to point where Will Jacks dived to his right and gathered the ball cleanly, and his throw to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler is clean. Buttler deftly whipped off the bails.

Mendis had set off for the single which probably wasn't there and he was sent back. The dive from the Sri Lankan to try to make his ground is very much in vain.

  20. Umpire reviewpublished at 17.1 overs

Kusal Mendis struggling to make it back into his ground at the striker's end after Dhananjaya de Silva turns down a single following a bit of a communications mix-up.

The umpire want to review it but Mendis is already walking off. He knows he's toast here.
