That's a good start for England. It's been relatively tight, boundaries have been few and far between. England will know with Mendis in form, another strike would be useful right now.

    Mishara c Duckett b Overton 5 (SL 16-1)

Kamil Mishara picks up four off Jamie Overton at the start of the over with a flick fine but perishes a couple of balls later.

The Sri Lanka opener drives on the up to a delivery from round the wicket from Jamie Overton into the covers but Ben Duckett manages to a smart catch, clasping it into his hands at the second attempt after palming the ball into the air.

That was travelling and Duckett did well to react to claim it on the rebound.

  4. SL 12-0published at 4 overs

A steady start to proceedings from Sri Lanka who have been watchful in these early moments. Pathum Nissanka deftly works it through backward point for a couple off the penultimate ball of Sam Curran's over.

  5. SL 7-0published at 3 overs

A beauty from Jamie Overton who beats the outside edge of Kamil Mishara's drive. A maiden from Overton.

Another important toss win for Sri Lanka today. In ODIs since the start of 2023, teams batting first have won 12 and lost just four at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. That Win/Loss ratio batting first is the best for any home ground of a Full Member nation in this timeframe.

  7. SL 7-0published at 2 overs

Sam Curran's whippy left-arm seamers at the other end.

He starts with a wide before Kamil Mishara works it off his hips for a single.

  8. SL 5-0published at 1 over

A wide aside much tighter from Jamie Overton in the remainder of the over as Pathum Nissanka plays fairly watchfully.

  9. SL 4-0published at 0.1 overs

Jamie Overton starts with a gentle half volley wide outside off stump - a hint of swing - and Pathum Nissanka gracefully creams it through the cover for four.

Pinch hinters are back in fashion it seems.
