Adil Rashid with a peach of a leg-break which he tosses up and it turns to strike Kusal Mendis on the pad. England appeal but it's turned down.

    Rashid starting to threaten.

Lasith Malinga is a shoo-in for the haircut XI. What a man. What an action.

  3. SL 66-2published at 16 overs

Dhananjaya de Silva with a nice flick off Liam Dawson which brings him four through mid-wicket. Sri Lanka will look to punish the bad ball from England's slow bowlers.

Pathum Nissanka will be very unhappy with that dismissal. His hand came off the bat so he wasn't able to get the distance. It was good judgement from Will Jacks in the deep. Another gift for England and spin is going to be key

Dhananjaya de Silva is the new batter for Sri Lanka.

Another start and then a dismissal for Pathum Nissanka. He has now crossed 20 in each of his last five ODIs without getting past the 30-run mark. Adil Rashid continues his wicket-taking form, having taken at least a wicket in each of his last 17 ODIs.

    Nissanka c Jacks b Rashid 26 (SL 58-2)

Pathum Nissanka kind of gives it away, here.

He's spent a few overs patiently knocking it about then watches at the non-striker's end as Kusal Mendis plays a couple of positive strokes.

The Sri Lanka opener is suckered into hitting inside out against Adil Rashid and Will Jacks scuttles round to take good catch at long-off.

Why not, Harry. Over to you, folks. Cricket Haircuts XI. Let's see what you have got.

In Colombo, Kusal Mendis picks up a couple of four off Jacob Bethell including a deft sweep.

Good start from England here. Since spending half an hour watching Jacob Bethell's majestic mop projected in high definition across my wall, I thought about making a crazy cricketing haircuts XI. Any thoughts?

  10. SL 49-1published at 13 overs

Adil Rashid gets a few up above the eyeline but neither Pathum Nissanka nor Kusal Mendis take the bait.

  11. SL 45-1published at 12 overs

Jacob Bethell, his striking bleach blonde haircut reminiscent of former Liverpool, Everton and Portugal defender Abel Xavier, is now given his chance with the ball.

Once again Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis work the ball into the gaps for ones and twos.

There's been a lot of noise around Brendon McCullum, especially after the Ashes but if you look at his tenure as a whole, I think it's been positive.

  13. SL 40-1published at 11 overs

It's spin bonanza as Adil Rashid is the latest man brought into the attack. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, prod an poke him into the gaps for singles.

  14. SL 36-1published at 10 overs

Will Jacks, England's, ahem, first-choice Ashes spinner into the attack.

A bit of grip and turn as he spins one past the edge of Pathum Nissanka with his third ball.

Next ball, though, Nissanka gets on the back foot quickly and pulls Jacks through mid-wicket for four.

  15. SL 29-1published at 9 overs

After taking a look at Liam Dawson's first over, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis work the ball into the gaps to pick up singles.

    SL 26-1published at 8 overs

A big waft of the willow from Pathum Nissanka as he attempts to pull a delivery darted across him by Sam Curran, but fails to make contact.

A few balls later Nissanka picks a floaty slower ball from Curran and goes down on one knee to hammer it for six over long on.

Kamil Mishara is naturally very strong off his back foot against pacers. Jamie Overton has adjusted his lengths against him compared to his spell in the 1st ODI, going almost about a metre fuller today. A sharp catch by Ben Duckett as well, who had dropped seven out of his 13 chances in international cricket before that grab.

  18. SL 18-1published at 7 overs

Liam Dawson is straight into his business. There's not much turn but he offers Kusal Mendis, who sees off a maiden over, absolutely nothing to work with.

  19. SL 18-1published at 6 overs

Sam Curran is accurate and on the money rather than going through his variations.

Harry Brook turns to spin early in Colombo as Liam Dawson is thrown the ball.

Tom Sweeney: Are the England cricket teams a social experiment? To see how far they can push the fans before a revolt happens? You’ve got a white-ball opener shoved into the middle order and a guy who bats middle order shoved at the top.
