  1. 6 runs

    Eng 19-2published at 3 overs

    Target 160

Harry Brook finishes the third over with back-to-back boundaries.

He comes down to smack one through the covers for four and then scoops a huge six into an LED board, darkening a few pixels in the process. He bent that ball around a corner. What a bizarre shot.

What is Harry Brook doing? He attempts to ramp a wide delivery and misses it. Later in the over, he attempts another and is struck on his stomach, his bat nowhere near the ball. Matt Henry is all over him.

Oh and there's an attempted run out for good measure, Brook running halfway down before being turned back by Jacob Bethell. With a fielder steaming in from mid-wicket, there wasn't a run there.

That's the 11th time Phil Salt has been dismissed inside the first over for England in a T20I, the most for any men's player (passing Jason Roy, 10).

  4. Eng 8-2published at 2 overs

    Target 160

Twice Harry Brook has stepped away from his stumps to make room and twice it's nearly brought his downfall. In the opening over, the ball whistled past his stumps. In the second, it results in a grim inside-edged wipe.

Jacob Bethell finishes the over with a boundary but it's not a pretty shot, an inside edge behind.

This has not been a good 12 balls for England.

Surely this is Buttler's last England selection. He is way off the required form, lacks concentration and looks disinterested of late. There are younger and better available, it's time to move on without him imo.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.2 overs

    Buttler c Seifert b Ferguson 0 (Eng 2-2)

Uh oh. Jos Buttler trudges off for a two-ball duck after nicking Lockie Ferguson through to Tim Seifert. He chased after that like a man desperate for runs.

    His innings at this World Cup: 26, 21, 3, 3, 7, 2, 0...

  7. Eng 2-1published at 1 over

    Target 160

More agony for the expressive Matt Henry as Harry Brook steps back to make room, swings, misses, and the ball whistles past the stumps. Henry doubles over in disappointment.

New Zealand didn't score a run in their opening over. England have scored two but they've lost a wicket.

It nips a little bit. It is very similar to how he got out in the last game - there is no foot movement.

That's a big wicket for New Zealand.

  10. wicket

    Salt c Seifert b Henry 2 (Eng 2-1)

Oh, it's another early introduction for England captain Harry Brook.

Phil Salt, who didn't look settled, goes for a big drive but can only nick through to wicketkeeper Tim Seifert.

Matt Henry looks pretty chuffed. A breakthrough for New Zealand after just four balls.

  11. Eng 2-0published at 0.3 overs

    Target 160

Lots of hands on heads from Matt Henry and New Zealand's fielders in this opening over.

He starts the innings with half an appeal for lbw. Two balls later, he's beating the edge of Phil Salt's bat.

If you look at the score (160), you think England should chase that down.

But the pitch is helping the bowlers. It's not going to be a straight-forward run chase. Can Jos Buttler find form? Phil Salt is a hit and miss player.

Phil Salt will try and get England off a flier and try and knock the top off this chase. If he can get a quick 40 here, that is the route to England winning this game and keeping Pakistan's hopes alive.

Right, the players are out in the middle, with England chasing 160.

Phil Salt and Jos Buttler will open the batting for England.

Matt Henry has the ball in hand for New Zealand.

In the previous six games at R Premadasa Stadium in this T20 World Cup, only once has a side scored more runs inside the powerplay than their opponent and failed to win (Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe). England will need to get off to a flier to pass New Zealand's powerplay score of 54-0.

The pitch is spinning, but this feels under par, especially given where New Zealand were at the halfway stage of their innings - but England need to get off to a flyer in the powerplay here!

  17. 'After ball one, it felt like home'published at 15:13 GMT 27 February

England spinner Rehan Ahmed on taking a wicket with his first ball in a World Cup: "I wish it was that easy. I didn't get my length right on the first ball but thankfully Rachin didn't hit it as well as he should have. It's a great opportunity for me."

On making his World Cup debut: "It was great. A World Cup, there's a bit more pressure without realising, but everyone made it really easy out there. After the first ball, it felt like home."

On the wicket: "It's breaking up, so 160 is about par. We did well to get them back from 130-4. Hopefully we chase it down. I'm sure we'll try and hit sixes when it's there to hit for six."

Thanks Sam - and hello all!

Spin really was key for England. Liam Dawson took 1-32, Will Jacks 2-23, Rehan Ahmed 2-28...

And of course, 2-28 for Adil Rashid, taking him to 161 T20I wickets. He's now just three behind second-placed Tim Southee in the men's T20I bowling standings.

    Here are his highlights:

  19. England need 160 to winpublished at 15:09 GMT 27 February

An interesting innings in which spin became increasingly important. All seven New Zealand wickets fell to spin and how England deal with the Kiwi spinners will likely determine the outcome.

On paper, 160 is extremely gettable. On this pitch? It could be tricky.

To see how England - who have already qualified for the semi-finals - get on, it's over to Elizabeth Botcherby.
