HANTS 156 ALL OUTpublished at 14:34 BST 5 April

Baker lbw b Critchley 10 (Hants trail by 305 runs)

Matt Critchley needs three balls of leg spin to pin Sonny Baker in front and end the spirited Hants rearguard. Is there no end to this man's talents after his 173 in Essex's innings?

The visitors have not found chipping those last few wickets out easy going with Kyle Abbott (35), Eddie Jack (31no) and Baker (10) frustrating their charge.

But they still remain in pole position on the grid with Hants amongst the backmarkers with a day and a half to go.

They will get a quick 10 minutes break to refresh then go again after Sam Cook has enforced the follow-on. That seems a sensible move given they will get a new ball in hand.

  2. Gloucestershire follow on at Lord'spublished at 14:32 BST 5 April

    Middx 445-9 dec v Glos 216 & 0-0

Statement of intent by Middlesex as skipper Leus Du Plooy tells Gloucestershire 'have another go, guys'.

The follow-on is enforced and Cameron Bancroft and Ben Charlesworth make their way to the middle.

  4. 100 stand for Sussexpublished at 14:28 BST 5 April

    Leics 245 v Sussex 361 & 284-6

    Jack CarsonImage source, Shutterstock

Jack Carson hammers a Rehan Ahmed full toss straight back down the pitch, forcing the umpire to take evasive action as it flies to the boundary.

Carson then tucks a leg stump delivery away for a couple as he and Tom Price register a 100 partnership.

The Sussex lead is now exactly 400.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:27 BST 5 April

    Hurst c Kimber b Conway 7 (Northants 258 v Lancs 384 & 40-5)

Harry Conway has another as Matty Hurst just guides a rising ball into the hands of Louis Kimber at third slip.

Not sure what Hurst had in mind here but it was as if he thought about nudging it wide of third slip but pulled out mid shot.

Kimber produced heroics to snatch one he had no right to grab earlier to dismiss Josh Bohannon but that was regulation.

Conway has 4-12 from eight overs but will surely be putting his hand up for another set.

  6. Division Two updatepublished at 14:25 BST 5 April

Following a belated lunch, the Gloucestershire first innings is finally over at Lord's, with Gabe Bell caught off Naavya Sharma for 11. The visitors are all out for 216 and trail Middlesex by 229. Will the follow-on be enforced?

Worcestershire have lost two wickets in successive overs at Derby with Adam Hose and Gareth Roderick falling to Luis Reece and Ben Aitchison respectively. They are 215-5, 410 behind.

  7. Postpublished at 14:25 BST 5 April

    Hants 155-9 v Essex 461-7d

The last wicket is proving difficult to land for Essex as this ball softens.

Eddie Jack reaches his best first class score (30) with a boundary through backward point off Simon Harmer.

It also brings up the 150 and Sonny Baker now joins in with a boundary of his own as Shane Snater strays down the leg side.

  8. 450 up for Warwickshirepublished at 14:22 BST 5 April

    Warwickshire 450-5 v Surrey 328

Warwickshire have secured maximum batting points for only the third time since the bar was set at 450 in 110 overs three seasons ago.

They did it with three balls to spare when Beau Webster hit Sean Abbott for a single.

The previous time they've achieved the feat was in 2024 on their way to 698-3 against Durham in a ridiculously high scoring match at Edgbaston.

Surrey managed only one bowling point so if it's a draw Warwickshire will take 16 points and Surrey just 11.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:20 BST 5 April

    Patterson-White c Rew b Pretorius 17 (Somerset 347 v Notts 314-8)

    Liam Patterson-White hates this decision.

He follows one from Migael Pretorius across his pads and is adjudged to have clipped it down the leg side, with James Rew taking a fine catch low to his right giving Pretorius figures of 4-59.

Patterson-White stomps off and rips his gloves off after crossing the boundary. He doesn't think he touched it, pad at most. And he might have a case.

Olly Stone is the new man in, joining Rob Lord with Notts 33 in arrears and 36 shy of a third batting point.

    Hill b Crane 2 (Glamorgan 302 v Yorks 136-6)

Superb stuff from Mason Crane. Middle and leg line spins away from George Hill's defensive bat and hits off stump.

Perhaps not quite the equal of 'that' Shane Warne delivery to Mike Gatting but too good for the Yorkshire all-rounder.

Crane now has 4-27. Anyone remember his figures from his one Test appearance in Australia in 2018?

  12. dropped catch

    Patterson-White dropped on 12published at 14:18 BST 5 April

    Somerset 347 v Notts 313-7

Craig Overton has dropped a dolly at second slip after Alfie Ogborne found the edge of Liam Patterson'-White's bat.

The skipper slaps the ground in frustration after spilling it at the second attempt coming forward to his left, and Patterson-White adds insult to injury by driving the next ball through the covers for four.

Overton rips his cap off and throws it to the turf in disgust as the ball races away. Careful with those sunglasses though, skip, those are expensive.

    Fine margins, this game.

  13. 50 runs

for Tom Pricepublished at 14:16 BST 5 April

    Leics 245 v Sussex 361 & 269-6

Tom Price drives Rehan Ahmed through the covers for his eighth four and marks his Sussex Championship debut with a 78-ball 50. His partnership with Jack Carson is now worth 87.

  14. Latest from Derbypublished at 14:10 BST 5 April

    Derbys 625-8 dec v Worcs 202-3

Adam Hose (37*) and Brett D'Oliveira (29*) have now added 60 from 85 balls for the fourth wicket and have the visitors past 200 and beginning to think about batting bonus points, rather than just the deficit, which is 423 runs.

  16. Postpublished at 14:06 BST 5 April

    Leics 245 v Sussex 361 & 251-6

250 up for Sussex as Ben Green digs one in at Tom Price, who pulls it safely down to long leg for a couple of runs. The former Gloucestershire all-rounder advances to 41 not out.

    Lyth c Ingram b Hadley 37 (Glamorgan 302 v Yorks 127-5)

Ryan Hadley bends his back and surprises Adam Lyth with a bit of extra bounce - the Yorkshire opener edges to first slip, where Colin Ingram takes the catch.

That's a big wicket for Glamorgan and brings George Hill to the crease for his first Championship innings of the summer.

  18. 300 runs

up for Nottspublished at 14:03 BST 5 April

    Somerset 347 v Notts 298-7

Migael Pretorius is into the attack with the new ball (now 10 overs old) for the first time.

Liam Patterson-White crunches his first ball through the covers for a couple to bring up a second batting point and the Notts deficit is now 47.

  19. Delayed start at Southamptonpublished at 14:01 BST 5 April

    Hants 139-9 v Essex 461-7d

The tractor is pulling a rope around the outfield and the cover is finally being taken from the middle with play set to resume at 2.10pm.

  20. Postpublished at 13:59 BST 5 April

    Glamorgan 302 v Yorks 127-4

Mason Crane hasn't bowled many poor deliveries but that's a full toss which Matthew Revis gratefully pounds through the covers for four.
