WICKETpublished at 11:45 BST 17 May

    Patel lbw Porter 2 (Essex 293 v Leics 333 & 4-0)

    Third time's a charm.

Rishi Patel tries to flick a ball from Jamie Porter to leg and this time the umpire says 'thank you, goodbye'.

Poor game for Patel, who only managed nine in the first innings.

Some very heavy cloud cover at Chelmsford, let's hope we're not going to have an interruption.

  2. 50 runs

50 up for Surreypublished at 11:44 BST 17 May

    Yorkshire 486 v Surrey 50-1

Three boundaries for Dom Sibley off Jhye Richardson helps Surrey reach the 50 mark.

A couple of those boundaries were played down to third man - Joe Root-esque - with the latter wearing a comfy looking snood in the slip cordon to help with the cold chill over Leeds today.

There is a moody looking cloud over Headingley at the moment - let's hope that passes quickly.

    Warks 171-7 v Glam 360

Lovely shot from Jordan Thompson as he drives Ryan Hadley through mid-on for his first boundary to go to 15.

He and Ethan Bamber have put on 30 largely untroubled runs. They'll take that.

    Glamorgan 360 v Warwicks 171-7

Another game to prove the Glamorgan haters wrong. Yet again we see a team that works well together, with a talented captain and strong young talent doing just as well as the likes of Essex, Somerset, Yorkshire and even Surrey.

    Sam, Cardiff

No 'haters' here, Sam - it's good to see Glamorgan acquitting themselves well on their return to Division One.

    Lancs 44-1 v Worcs 270

Josh Bohannon is one off 18 balls which probably tells you how Lancashire are going about their business at the moment.

Tom Taylor and Matthew Waite are currently into the attack for Worcestershire, who prized the wicket of George Balderson early this morning.

  6. Postpublished at 11:39 BST 17 May

    Essex 293 v Leics 333 & 2-0

We mentioned Johnny Bristol earlier - but we reckon Essex were listening to Lulu in between innings at Chelmsford, the one that goes 'you know you make me wanna shout'.

Following on from Sam Cook's appeal in the previous over, Jamie Porter is equally convinced that he has Rishi Patel leg-before - once again the umpire doesn't agree.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:37 BST 17 May

    Price c Harrison b Sanderson 0 (Gloucs 154 & 29-4 v Northants 127)

Breakthrough via Ben Sanderson - who else?

Ollie Price is forward and a bit squared up, edging to second slip for a 34-ball duck.

Now Miles Hammond is coming in to bat.

The lead is a slender 56.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:37 BST 17 May

    Verreynne lbw b Abbott 19 (Hants 214 v Notts 145-4)

    Breakthrough for Hants!

Kyle Abbott has been bang on the money this morning and has a third wicket of the innings.

He gets a good length delivery to nip back off this green pitch and into the front pad of Kyle Verreynne.

The batter is disappointed, but more with his technique than the decision. That was straight in front of off stump.

    Sam Seecharan joins Jack Haynes.

  9. Postpublished at 11:37 BST 17 May

    Somerset 526-8 dec v Sussex 47-1

Craig Overton appeals for LBW against Jack Carson but that's too leg side - and a subsequent bouncer sails over the stumps and keeper for four byes.

    Frustration for Somerset.

  10. 6 runs

Postpublished at 11:36 BST 17 May

    Warks 171-7 v Glam 360

Ethan Bamber is not going to die wondering.

Tom Norton tempts him with a short ball and the Bears batter can't resist.

He pulls it just over the head of Ryan Hadley on the rope at long leg for six. Bamber moves to 17 off as many balls.

  11. Postpublished at 11:36 BST 17 May

    Gloucs 154 & 29-3 v Northants 127 - lead by 56

A maiden over for Luke Procter, who squares Cameron Bancroft up as the Gloucester captain edges just short and between keeper and first slip.

It would be reasonable to say batting has not looked any easier since the clatter of wickets on Day Two.

    Maiden over.

    Essex 293 v Leics 333 & 0-0

Sol Budinger and Rishi PatelImage source, Shutterstock

The Leicestershire openers are out in the middle, with Sol Budinger promoted from number three in the absence of injured Jake Weatherald.

Sam Cook is absolutely convinced he has Rishi Patel lbw in his opening over, and so are the fielders behind the stumps.

The man in the panama hat does not concur.

  13. Postpublished at 11:34 BST 17 May

    Somerset 526-8 dec v Sussex 43-1

    Jack LeachImage source, Shutterstock

A slip and a forward short leg in for Jack Leach - and Dan Hughes sweeps in front of square leg for four.

Plenty of class and power in that shot.

  14. ouch!

Postpublished at 11:32 BST 17 May

    Hants 214 v Notts 145-3

Kyle Abbott is doing Kyle Abbott things as he continues to cause problems for the Notts batters.

The other South African Kyle involved - Verreynne - loses patience and flashes at a wider ball.

The thick outside edge is so nearly pouched by a diving Jake Lehmann but flies for four.

Abbott responds by firing in a ball which catches the wicketkeeper in a very painful spot. He takes a moment to himself to recover.

  15. Postpublished at 11:32 BST 17 May

    Gloucs 154 & 29-3 v Northants 127 - lead by 56

Ben Sanderson can't do much more to prize Ollie Price out, repeatedly beating him outside the off stump on a line where Price has to play.

Maiden over - and we have a change at the Ashley Down Road End, where Northants captain Luke Procter replaces Harry Conway.

  16. Postpublished at 11:32 BST 17 May

    Middx 177 & 18-1 v Derbys 376

Like singer Johnny Bristol, it's a case of 'hang on in there, baby' at the moment for Middlesex.

Just five runs added in 8.1 overs since the start of play.

Rory Haydon currently has figures of 0-4 from six overs.

  17. Postpublished at 11:30 BST 17 May

    Somerset 526-8 dec v Sussex 37-1

A tidy over from Jack Leach, who has installed a slip and a leg slip.

Just a couple of runs off the over.

  18. Latest from Beckenhampublished at 11:30 BST 17 May

    Kent 523 v Durham 173-5

Following overnight rain, umpires Ben Peverall and Mark Newell will carry out an inspection at mid-day.

Durham are waiting to resume their first innings, 350 runs behind.

  19. 150 up for Warkspublished at 11:29 BST 17 May

    Warks 151-7 v Glam 360

Ethan Bamber attempts a drive at a full toss and misses completely as Tom Norton picks up a maiden.

A no-ball from Ryan Hadley finally drags the Bears past the 150 mark. That's the good news for the hosts. The bad news is they're still 209 behind.

  20. Postpublished at 11:28 BST 17 May

    Gloucs 154 & 29-3 v Northants 127 - lead by 56

Harry Conway begins his eighth over with a wide.

Cameron Bancroft is down and across to defend Conway into the on side.

Conway gets one to brush the pad and loop up to a leg gully.

An LBW shout is turned down as Cameron gets outside the line of off stump. That ball may have struck the inner part of the knee. Ouch.

We can report that Louis Kimber has replaced Saif Zaib for the rest of the match - after the latter was concussed after being hit in the head during a warm up yesterday morning and developed symptoms overnight.
