    Essex 17-0 - target 101

Paul Walter plays an extravagant off-drive, then a square cut - doesn't make contact with either.

Rushes of blood not really what's needed by Essex at the moment.

A maiden from Ben Green ticks by.

  2. Postpublished at 14:41 BST 17 May

    Gloucs 154 & 142-6 v Northants 127

More than a glint of sunshine in Bristol now as Harry Conway bowls to Tommy Boorman, who is forward and pushing to cover to see out the over.

Ben Sanderson bowls outside off stump and Cameron Bancroft is forward and across with his trademark, pronounced leave.

An appeal for a leg side catch is turned down - but nonetheless a fine diving take from keeper Lewis McManus.

Three runs arrive via a clip to mid wicket. Northants continue to attack with four slips in but it feels like the hosts have the momentum now.

  3. Postpublished at 14:41 BST 17 May

    Lancs 160-4 v Worcs 270

    First boundary for Matty Hurst.

He pulls away into the off side to beat the sweeping square leg fielder for four.

The wicket-keeper batsman will be desperate for runs this afternoon and he kept that one down nicely.

  4. Hampshire begin second inningspublished at 14:41 BST 17 May

    Hants 214 & 5-0 v Notts 229

Essentially a one-innings game in Southampton as Toby Albert and Nick Gubbins open Hampshire's second innings with the hosts 15 runs behind.

Nice start from Albert as he cuts Fergus O'Neill's second ball through the offside for a nerve-settling four.

A push brings a scampered single.

There's almost joy for the Australian bowler as he beats the outside edge of Nick Gubbins' bat and then thuds one into the pad. Not out.

  5. Postpublished at 14:37 BST 17 May

    Yorkshire 486 v Surrey 136-7

    Nice shot from Sean Abbott.

Overpitched by Ben Cliff and Abbott sends it through the covers for four to move onto 28 not out.

Abbott and Josh Blake have played nicely since lunch as Surrey still trail their hosts by 350 runs.

  6. rain stops play

    Warks 252 v Glam 360 & 12-0

Good news from Birmingham where the umpires have said the afternoon session will begin in just over 10 minutes if there is no further rain.

  7. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Tauntonpublished at 14:36 BST 17 May

    Somerset 526-8 dec v Sussex 155-3

A few spots of rain here now and the wind is getting up.

Dan Hughes plays and misses on the drive, facing Lewis Gregory - bowling from round the wicket.

Gregory is rushing through the over, trying to stay ahead of the weather, but play is halted with three balls left to bowl in the 40th.

  8. Postpublished at 14:34 BST 17 May

    Essex 17-0 - target 101

Ben Green angles one into Dean Elgar's pads and the South African opener works him away for four. Another 84 needed by Essex.

Ian Holland posts a short mid-on for Paul Walter at the start of the next over.

  9. Postpublished at 14:34 BST 17 May

    Gloucs 154 & 138-6 v Northants 127

Ben Sanderson is into his 18th over of the innings, bowling to Cameron Bancroft, who nudges in front of square to the leg side for one.

Four slips in for new batter Tommy Boorman.

Late swing from Sanderson - and Boorman edges wide of slip for four.

The hosts are 165 ahead now.

  10. 150 runs

150 up for Lancashirepublished at 14:32 BST 17 May

    Lancs 151-4 v Worcs 270

Moments after the wicket of Michael Jones, Keaton Jennings steals two runs and Lancashire move onto 150.

An important moment in the match now with Lancashire trailing by 119 runs with six wickets in hand and new batter Matty Hurst looking to settle.

  11. Postpublished at 14:30 BST 17 May

    Somerset 526-8 dec v Sussex 149-3

Dan Hughes is forward and a bit squared up defending Lewis Gregory down the ground.

A shorter, wider ball is lashed through cover point off the back foot for four runs.

It's looking decidedly grey at Taunton now. No rain yet though.

  12. Latest from Beckenhampublished at 14:29 BST 17 May

    Kent 523 v Durham 173-5

    The inspections come and go.

Another one has been carried out and it's still not dry enough following the overnight rain.

    They'll look again at 15:00.

  13. Notts all out for 229 and five-wicket haul for Sonny Bakerpublished at 14:28 BST 17 May

    Patterson-White c Brown b Baker 48 (Hants 214 v Notts 229)

Sonny Baker caps a tremendous week by claiming his fourth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket.

It's not his best ball by a long stretch as Liam Patterson-White is strangled down the legside trying to smash a loose ball into the next postcode.

He falls two short of a first fifty of the season.

Hampshire have done superbly today to restrict the visitors to a 15-run first-innings lead.

WICKETpublished at 14:28 BST 17 May

    Bracey c McManus b Conway 48 (Gloucs 154 & 131-6 v Northants 127)

James Bracey has nicked Harry Conway to the keeper!

He is forward to defend a bit loosely with a gap between bat and pad.

Now Tommy Boorman joins Cam Bancroft in the middle.

    The lead is 158.

  15. Postpublished at 14:27 BST 17 May

    Middx 177 & 124-3 v Derbys 376

Caleb Falconer is looking 'handy' thus far. He drives Ben Aitchison straight for four at the start of a new over and is 26 not out.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:27 BST 17 May

    Jones b Waite 4 (Lancs 148-4 v Worcs 270)

What a terrible way to give up your wicket.

Michael Jones tries to leave the ball alone well outside off stump and it flicks the underneath of his bat and the bails go flying.

Jones' struggles continue. The second time a Lancashire batter has played on after lunch.

In football, that would go down as an "own goal." Matty Hurst walks to the crease.

Why does whoever's writing the commentary for Sussex keep going on about it being their sixth game in seven weeks? Every team is playing their sixth game in seven weeks. It's been a tough opening block for many teams, battling injuries and illness. Look at Lancashire. Anderson's played all six.

  18. Postpublished at 14:25 BST 17 May

    Warks 252 v Glam 360 & 12-0

The sun has come out at Edgbaston after that lunchtime rain and the super sopper is busy at work on the Edgbaston outfield.

Groundstaff are beginning the task of removing the huge cover to the right of the wicket.

    Fingers crossed.

  19. Postpublished at 14:24 BST 17 May

    Somerset 526-8 dec v Sussex 144-3

Four more to Jack Leaning, on the back foot to flay Lewis Gregory through cover for four.

Four more to Dan Hughes, driving between cover and mid off facing Migael Pretorius.

  20. 6 runs

Postpublished at 14:23 BST 17 May

    Yorkshire 486 v Surrey 121-7

Whoosh - go and run after that one.

Sean Abbott hoicks a half-tracker from Jack White towards the long boundary at square leg and it clears the rope.

A heck of a shot from the Surrey number nine.
