    Hants 214 & 18-0 v Notts 229

Nick Gubbins shows real authority as he pulls Josh Tongue for his second boundary of the over.

The runs quickly move Hampshire back into the lead just six overs into the second innings.

  2. 6 runs

Postpublished at 15:01 BST 17 May

    Yorkshire 486 v Surrey 158-8

A second maximum from Sean Abbott who says it's now or never if Surrey are going to pick up some meaningful runs.

He picks this up immediately and swings over mid-wicket into the Western Terrace to move onto 47 not out.

That one went around 10 rows back into the stands.

  3. Postpublished at 14:58 BST 17 May

    Gloucs 154 & 159-6 v Northants 127

Three slips in for Luke Procter, bowling to Tommy Boorman.

The second ball is flashed over the slips for four and Boorman gets a single off the next delivery, pushed into the off side.

Oh, has Cam Bancroft got an inside edge through to the keeper?

No. The next ball is slashed just past Calvin Harrison at second slip for four.

That was a third slip catch had there been one. 186 lead now.

    Walter lbw Green 7 (Essex 25-2 - target 101)

A little bit of nip-back for Ben Green and that is two in seven balls for Leicestershire. Paul Walter follows Dean Elgar back to the dressing room and suddenly the visitors have hope.

    Carlson c Webster b Bamber 0 (Warks 252 v Glam 360 & 12-2)

The Bears are getting right back in this!

After a brilliant 46 this morning, Ethan Bamber takes two wickets in the first over of the session.

A good length ball draws Kiran Carlson into the drive but he gets a thick outside edge which flies to third slip.

The tall Beau Webster reaches high above his head to take a sharp two-handed catch and the Glamorgan skipper goes for a four-ball duck.

    Ben Kellaway is in.

  6. wicket

    Jennings c Taylor b Drissell 69 (Lancs 164-5 v Worcs 270)

Another soft dismissal for Lancashire - Keaton Jennings looks furious with himself!

George Drissell goes a little fuller and Jennings looks to cut away but picks out Tom Taylor at backward point with a top edge.

Good innings from Jennings but he will feel he's left some runs out there and Chris Green is in. Lancashire have lost three wickets for 31.

  7. Postpublished at 14:55 BST 17 May

    Gloucs 154 & 150-6 v Northants 127

Cam Bancroft is forward to Harry Conway, dropping the ball into the off side but there's no run this time.

He gets a run to deep point off the second ball.

Toomy Boorman leaves Conway outside the off stump.

He gets a single off a leg side ball tapped fine to bring up Gloucestershire's 150 in 56 overs - and a lead of 177.

    Elgar lbw Hull 18 (Essex 25-1 - target 101)

Josh Hull dismisses Dean ElgarImage source, Shutterstock

That's a much better length from the tall left-armer, Dean Elgar plays across the line and he's gone.

The South African clearly felt that might have been going down leg but there is no reprieve. Sentence has been passed.

  9. Postpublished at 14:53 BST 17 May

    Essex 25-0 - target 101

Josh Hull is called up as Leicestershire's first change and starts with a long hop which Dean Elgar despatches.

  10. wicket

    Blake c Hill b Cliff 22 (Yorkshire 486 v Surrey 151-8)

Moments later, Ben Cliff does get his wicket! And you can't keep George Hill out of this match.

Again, Josh Blake goes after a wide one and this time Hill makes a sharp catch to his right at third slip.

Ex-Yorkie Matthew Fisher walks to the crease. Surrey look set to follow on here, still trailing by 335.

  11. wicket

    ul-Hassan c Hain b Bamber 0 (Warks 252 v Glam 360 & 12-1)

    Well, that didn't take long.

Ethan Bamber takes the outside edge with the first ball after the rain delay and Sam Hain takes a super catch low to his right at first slip.

That's a pair for the unfortunate Zain ul-Hassan who went to drive a fullish ball.

Skipper Kiran Carlson comes to the crease.

Glamorgan openers Asa Tribe and Zain ul-Hassan return to the crease after an hour's delay for rain which began during lunch.

  13. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 14:51 BST 17 May

    Yorkshire 486 v Surrey 151-7

A very, very difficult chance goes down for Yorkshire as Surrey move onto 150.

Josh Blake throws the kitchen sink at a wide one from Ben Cliff and Joe Root at first slip gets his left hand to it high above his head but can't cling on.

It would have been a screamer - a very good effort from Root.

  14. Postpublished at 14:50 BST 17 May

    Gloucs 154 & 148-6 v Northants 127

A change of bowling. Northants captain Luke Procter brings himself on to bowl in place of Ben Sanderson.

His first ball curves in sharply to beat Tommy Boorman on a forward block.

    And again. Maiden over.

  15. wicket

    Albert lbw b O'Neill 5 (Hants 214 & 10-1 v Notts 229)

After trapping Toby Albert in front in the first innings, Fergus O'Neill repeats the dose.

He gets a ball to move in a touch and beats the bat of Albert who leans forward in defence. It looked pretty plum.

Fletcha Middleton joins Nick Gubbins with Hants still five in arrears.

  16. Postpublished at 14:47 BST 17 May

    Middx 177 & 143-3 v Derbys 376

Two short legs and a slip in place for Shoaib Bashir but that's a full toss and Caleb Falconer lofts it over mid-off for four as he and Leus du Plooy post a 50 partnership from 100 balls.

  17. 50 runs

    50 partnershippublished at 14:47 BST 17 May

    Yorkshire 486 v Surrey 149-7

A gorgeous square drive is crunched by Sean Abbott towards the boundary rope for four.

That's the 50 partnership for the eighth wicket between Abbott and Josh Blake. A decent mini-salvation job between the two players.

Abbott then punishes a bad ball from George Hill two deliveries later for another four into the off side.

  18. Postpublished at 14:46 BST 17 May

    Gloucs 154 & 148-6 v Northants 127

Gloucestershire's lead is now past 170 on a wicket that has offered plenty of help with the new ball.

Cameron Bancroft finds the gap between second slip and gully for three to reach 71 not out.

Tommy Boorman pulls a short ball to deep square for a single.

    The lead is 175.

  19. Postpublished at 14:46 BST 17 May

    Hants 214 & 5-0 v Notts 229

Josh Tongue runs in for his first over of the innings and squares up Toby Albert as Notts seek an early breakthrough with the new ball. Maiden.

Get Involvedpublished at 14:45 BST 17 May

Surrey regularly choose to field when they win the toss. Teams know this and are now producing bat first pitches when they play them. Think they need a decent spinner so they have a plan B. Bit like England.

    Peter, London

This first stint of Championship cricket has showed us once again that the red ball offerings can still offer drama and proper entertainment. Obviously a shame that we’ll only see the odd game here and there over the next three months…

    Bruce, Dundee

Gloucestershire must be firm favourites now if rain allows a result. How often does a side make the highest score of the match in the 4th innings.

    Mark, Madrid (ex-Bristol)

Hola, Mark. How's El Retiro looking today?
