  1. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:41 BST 10 April

    Lammonby c Elgar b Cook 2 (Essex 149 v Somerset 13-2)

The pitch inspectors might be heading to Chelmsford at this rate.

A good low catch to his left from Dean Elgar collecting a push from Tom Lammonby outside off-stump again as Sam Cook strikes.

12 wickets and not even nearly teatime yet.

The classy James Rew manages to look good on almost any pitch and he could unintentionally do Essex a favour and score some runs, here so the pitch looks less guilty for the wickets to fall.

In the pitch's defence nothing has been dangerous, and there have been a few poor dismissals as always, just a sporting April wicket some would say.

If you had planned to watch cricket at Chelmsford on Sunday and Monday, stay tuned in case you need to change plans!

  2. 100 runs

100 for Jamie Smithpublished at 15:38 BST 10 April

    Surrey 242-2 v Leics

And now that's a century for Jamie Smith! A glorious drive through the covers from Josh Hull and that's 15 career centuries to his name.

What a duo at the crease for Surrey right now.

This is tough for Leicestershire. Really tough.

  3. 100 runs

100 for Ollie Popepublished at 15:37 BST 10 April

    Surrey 237-2 v Leics

A brilliant knock by Ollie Pope and he brings up the 26th first-class century of his career.

Pope drives straight down the ground for four from Josh Hull to go onto 103 from just 134 balls.

  4. Postpublished at 15:37 BST 10 April

    Surrey 233-2 v Leics

And now Ollie Pope survives a big lbw appeal from Ajaz Patel but gets through for a leg bye and the umpire says not out!

All going on in this over.

  5. Postpublished at 15:37 BST 10 April

    Sussex v Warwickshire 185-6

One of the quieter, slower games in Division One, but Chris Woakes and Kai Smith are rebuilding nicely for the away side, prompting Sussex to turn back to the spin of Jack Carson and even Tom Haines, whose first over goes for six.

The run rate is now a more healthy 3.3 as these two have put on 68 runs already.

40 overs remaining today if no April sea fret comes in, this could be the first Division One game to tea today.

  6. Postpublished at 15:36 BST 10 April

    Surrey 232-2 v Leics

Wow, heart in mouth moment for Ollie Pope. He tries to flick through the onside from Ajaz Patel and it takes a thick leading edge and loops up but drops just shy of mid-off.

  7. Postpublished at 15:35 BST 10 April

    Surrey 231-2 v Leics

And now Jamie Smith joins Ollie Pope on 98 with a quick couple off Ajaz Patel. Who will get there first?

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:35 BST 10 April

    Leach b Porter 6 (Essex 149 v Somerset 10-1)

Chelmsford has just got over the shock of seeing Somerset's bespectacled spinner walk out with Josh Thomas to open.

Jack Leach does not last as long as that famous one not out at Headingley with his mate Ben Stokes this time out though, nor as his 92 at Lords as Jamie Porter gets one through his defences.

Porter and Sam Cook are still one of the best opening attacks in the country, and many actual openers have fallen for less than six against them.

Tom Lammonby comes out as the usual number three after his bowling heroics earlier.

This could be a quick, short game at Chelmsford.

  9. Postpublished at 15:33 BST 10 April

    Notts 244-7 v Glamorgan

Jack Haynes is ticking along very nicely for Notts. He punches through the covers for another single and he's onto 92*.

  10. 300 runs

300 partnership for Durhampublished at 15:33 BST 10 April

    Glos v Durham 303-0

Unremitting, remorseless stuff from the Durham opening pair as they go past 300 and we are a couple short of 60 overs.

Captain Alex Lees glances one fine and that is another boundary to take him to 128 not out. He is still 31 shy of Ben McKinney's 159, though!

  11. Postpublished at 15:32 BST 10 April

    Surrey 229-2 v Leics

Four more for Ollie Pope and he's just two away from a century now.

He drives on the up through the covers from Josh Hull and it races away.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:30 BST 10 April

    Dawson c Duke b Coad (Yorks v Hants 204-6)

Brilliant delivery from Ben Coad and Hants are rocking.

This is angled in towards middle but straightens and threatens the top of off.

Liam Dawson does well to get something on it to steer it away, but the faintest of edges flies to Harry Duke.

It continues to be a privilege to watch Marcus Harris bat, and I don't want Lancashire to lose him, but he really is too good for the second division.

    Jeffrey at Old Trafford

If Marcus Harris bats well this summer, he may be here next year as part of Australia's Ashes squad.

  14. Postpublished at 15:24 BST 10 April

    Surrey 221-2 v Leics

Ollie Pope tickles one down to fine leg off Josh Hull for two and he moves onto 92*.

Two batters into the 90s with Jamie Smith also unbeaten on 94 at the other end.

  15. JACK LEACH IS OPENING THE BATTING AGAIN!published at 15:23 BST 10 April

    Essex 149 v Somerset 0-0

Jack Leach the afternoon watcher then!

This Somerset team love to entertain with varying opening partnerships.

No Josh Davey or Lewis Gregory to open in this match, James Rew is spared from going up one space higher again, and Tom Lammonby and Tom Abell can stay in their same spots.

TKC is replaced by Leach so it is an all left-hand combination, with Josh Thomas on the ground where he made his full Championship debut in September facing Jamie Porter.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:22 BST 10 April

    Mayes b Bess 39 (Yorks v Hants 199-5)

Has he got a bit of an inside edge on that? If not that is a prodigious bit of turn through the gate from Dom Bess as the 18-year-old Ben Mayes perishes.

He is dragged forward trying to whip into the leg side and he misses. Bess does not and the Hants innings is checked once again.

    Lancashire batter Marcus Harris

Marcus Harris moved into the 90s with a beautifully timed maximum over long-on off Shoaib Bashir and he brings up his first century of the season with a clip off his legs for two off Zak Chappell.

The Australian now has 34 first-class hundreds and adds, at the first time of asking following his return from Victoria, another to go with the three he scored in Division Two last season.

  18. 6 runs

Six for Brett Huttonpublished at 15:21 BST 10 April

    Notts 232-7 v Glamorgan

    Big hit!

Not a bad way to get your first boundary of the innings. Brett Hutton pulls Mason Crane to cow corner and it's gone all the way.

  19. Postpublished at 15:20 BST 10 April

    Surrey 213-2 v Leics

Ollie Pope is indeed fine to continue after taking a ball to the top of the helmet from Josh Hull. On we go.

Good to see Kent have the early breakthrough (searches for rolling eyes emoji)... honestly, what I would give for a Headley or a McCague these days...

    Mark, Herne Bay

As I said during the opening match it's going to be a long season of same old same old for us Kent supporters and it seems I'm right...

    Steve, Kent

Quite, Mark and Steve... Northamptonshire are 240-1 at the St Lawrence Ground.
