Ben Sears, who I saw bowling against Ireland in Belfast and has a bit of zip, is into the attack.

He draws an edge from Jacob Bethell's bat with his second delivery but it falls short of the slips.

Bethell punishes a full delivery from Sears later in the over, thrasing the Kiwi semaer through the covers.

  2. Eng 74-1published at 15 overs

Mitchell Santner with the first over after tea.

He gives it a bit of flight with his third delivery and Ben Duckett looks to glance it to leg, but it's into the ground before Rachin Ravindra at short leg can get anywhere near it.

Netherland is an excellent book, Peter. Possibly the best piece of cricket fiction I've read.

A bit of news for you, the International Cricket Council are continuing their fight against online abuse during the women's T20 World Cup.

More than 100 women’s cricketers have signed up for the ICC Player Protection Programme which works with players to silence trolls on social media platforms.

England's Amy Jones is one of those to sign up and she did so to help get rid of "toxicity" that comes with social media for women in elite sports.

"We have a great relationship with the vast majority of our fans, and we love interacting with them in person and on social media, where we can show what it is like to do what we do," Jones said.

"But the downside is that there are people who choose to abuse you instead, so it is great that there are companies who are trying to clean things up and offer us some protection."

New Zealand will be thinking they're still in a decent position, they should be in a better position. This is a great opportunity for England. Will O'Rourke seems like the key for New Zealand, he looks like the one bowler that can get a bagful.

Aha, after four balls of Nathan Smith's over Tom Blundell sticks on a helmet to stand up behind the stumps.

New Zealand enjoyed success with this tactic in the second Test, although it doesn't elicit a wicket in the final two balls of the session.

Two runs from the over, while Jacob Bethell inside-edged onto his pads from the second ball.

England's afternoon, here's Timothy Abraham to see if it'll be England's evening.

Four more for England, with Blair Tickner firing byes down the leg side.

Meanwhile Andy Zaltzman informs us that just over half of Ben Duckett's fifties have been scored from under 50 balls.

Ben Duckett has done quite a job on this New Zealand attack. They're a little bit frazzled.

Facing Blair Tickner, he cracks his 10th boundary through third then brings up the landmark with two into the covers.

The fifty comes up off 40 balls.

The cricket episode of the children’s show Bluey is an exceptional way to spend eight minutes of your life. Not quite literature, but still a piece of art in my eyes.

The description of match between Dingly Dell and all Muggleton in The Pickwick Papers is worth a read. The commentary by Alfred Jingle is very Norcrossian.

Over in Belfast, there's no Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the India team for their T20 international against Ireland.

The hosts batted first at Stormont and posted 182-9 thanks to 50 from Lorcan Tucker and 49 from Gareth Delany.

Harshit Rana is the pick of the bowlers for the tourists with 3-24. India have just began their innings.

Feel free to open another tab and keep an eye on things in that match...
