  1. Eng 8-1published at 2 overs

Jacob Bethell walks out to the crease, under a bit of pressure.

Will O'Rourke's last ball rears up and strikes Bethell on the gloves - a painful way to start.

Possibly the worst way to get out. A simple catch for Tom Blundell. Emilio Gay is fuming with himself.

Ben Duckett loves to put a bowling attack under pressure and he's done that in this over.

  5. Eng 8-0published at 1 over

Positive intent from Ben Duckett in the first over.

He drives Nathan Smith through the covers for four, then adds another boundary from the final ball of the over, sending the ball to the ropes in a similar area.

New Zealand lost 10 for 121. It’s a concern how England will fare. It’s 239 to avoid the follow-on!

    Patrick, Somerset

First question. How many do we need to avoid the follow on. Feeling optimistic.

    Ian, Exeter

What do we think of this pitch then? Other than the two openers, no one else made much more than 36. Is the a concern for England’s reply?

New Zealand haven't made the most of the start they had, thanks to Ben Stokes really. He looked like he could get a wicket every single delivery. He's got that bit between his teeth.

We could hear him on the stump mic saying 'lads get around a little bit quicker, let's have some energy' and you could see that in his bowling.

New Zealand should be disappointed with that with the start they had. England have brought themselves back into the game really nicely.

After putting on 317 runs for the first wicket, New Zealand lost their last nine wickets for 121 runs.

Not a single fifty-plus partnership in this innings after that massive 317-run stand. England have done a brilliant job here.

  11. Postpublished at 14:29 BST 26 June

Ben Stokes the pick of the England bowlers, finishing with 4-70, while Shoaib Bashir and Jofra Archer picked-up two wickets apiece and Joe Root and Gus Atkinson one each.

Andy Zaltzman informs us that Josh Tongue went wicketless for the first time since the first innings of his debut - this is his 12th Test.

Tom Latham and Devon Conway scored 151 and 157 respectively, but the next highest scorer was Henry Nicholls with 36.

A great fightback from England. The situation they were in yesterday for England, to get them out below 450 is an incredible effort. Ben Stokes was brilliant with the ball in his hand.

    That is it.

Ben Sears is near enough off the field by the time the ball tracking comes through - a golden duck for him finishes New Zealand's innings.

New Zealand lost 10 wickets for 121 after an opening stand of 317.

    Feels very out to me.

  15. New Zealand reviewpublished at 114.5 overs

    Is that it?

Blair Tickner takes three down to point to get off strike, meaning Ben Sears gets to face his first delivery.

Jofra Archer strikes him full on the pad, up goes the umpire's finger.

Sears, as the last man, is going to double-check but this is hopeful.

Re. Glory Gardens - I also greatly enjoyed Hurricane Hamish, the calypso cricketer. From memory he bowled rockets, barefooted.

    Jamie

Loved the Glory Gardens books as a kid but lost them after leaving my parents house. Ended up being another copy a few years ago and now my nephews are getting into cricket I can’t wait to share with them.

    Gareth, Hartlepool

Re cricket literature, does anyone recall Peter Tinniswood's Tales From A Long Room? Some 'old-fashioned' attitudes but still funny.

    Patrick, Orpington

  17. NZ 435-9published at 114.2 overs

    Ouch.

Jofra Archer strikes Blair Tickner's helmet with a short delivery.

We'll have a concussion check, while the players will take the chance to take on some unofficial drinks.

Tom Blundell looks like he's given it up. He's not off the pitch yet but he's closer to the dressing room.

  20. New Zealand reviewpublished at 114 overs

A second wicket in the over for Shoaib Bashir?

Tom Blundell tries to reverse sweep and is struck low on the pad.

Up goes the umpire's finger, Blundell is going to review as the last remaining member of the middle-order.
