England have been gifted scoring opportunities by New Zealand's complete inability to build pressure.

England making hay in this evening session as they look to turn the tables on New Zealand here.

Ben Duckett moves into the nineties after plinking Will O'Rouke behind square for four.

I can't see New Zealand, with this bowling line-up, being able to control England at any stage.

  4. Eng 141-1published at 23 overs

Jacob Bethell goes after Mitchell Santner, hammering him through the covers for four. A chastening start for the Kiwi spinner so far.

New Zealand would have dreaded this at the start of the day.

  6. Eng 130-1published at 22 overs

Will O'Rourke returns to the attack for New Zealand.

A single for Ben Duckett into the leg side helps to 80 which brings Jacob Bethell on strike.

A short ball from O'Rourke is helped round the corner by Bethell who picks up four.

Ben Duckett pokes at one which bounces from Mitchell Santner and edges it.

There's a dive by Daryl Mitchell but he cannot quite get a paw on it.

Four runs instead added to the England total.

Since his comeback to the England side in December 2022, Ben Duckett has scored 412 runs against spinners with the sweep and reverse sweep shots, the most by any batter in this period. He averages 103 and strikes at 185 with those shots.

  9. Eng 115-1published at 20 overs

Ben Sears is far too full to Jacob Bethell who drives gloriously through the covers for four. You could hear the Trent Bridge crowd purring after that shot.

India now six down at Stormont, incidentally...

Mitchell Santner has only bowled three overs but he's been a bit all over the place. He hasn't quite managed to get his length. You want him to be more economical here. You need him and Ben Sears to be bowling in a partnership but since tea they've been expensive bowlers.

The first time it may be but Ben Duckett appears to have the measure of Mitchell Santner, who is struggling to land it in consistent areas.

A nice transfer of weight by Duckett, who rocks on to the back foot and late cuts Mitchell Santer between gully and point for four.

Duckett is up to 69 off 60 balls.

This is the first time Ben Duckett is facing Mitchell Santner in Test cricket.

Jacob Bethell picks up another boundary off Ben Sears after brushing one which is on its way down leg off his hip.

Intriguing game in Belfast by the way.

India are 89-4 after 10 overs in pursuit of Ireland's 182-9.

  15. Eng 91-1published at 17 overs

Ben Duckett slams back-to-back fours off Mitchell Santner as he picks up where he left off before tea.

Santner strays on to Duckett's pads and the left-hander whips it to the square leg boundary.

The England opener then comes to meet Santner and drives him straight down the ground.

Ben Sears, who I saw bowling against Ireland in Belfast and has a bit of zip, is into the attack.

He draws an edge from Jacob Bethell's bat with his second delivery but it falls short of the slips.

Bethell punishes a full delivery from Sears later in the over, thrasing the Kiwi semaer through the covers.

  18. Eng 74-1published at 15 overs

Mitchell Santner with the first over after tea.

He gives it a bit of flight with his third delivery and Ben Duckett looks to glance it to leg, but it's into the ground before Rachin Ravindra at short leg can get anywhere near it.
