Summary

Have your say on England men this summer

  1. Eng 174-1published at 29 overs

Quite surprised New Zealand are persisting with Mitchell Santner given how expensive he has been.

His figures are made worse still after Nathan Smith's shy at the stumps goes for four overthrows much to the joy of the bulk of fans inside Trent Bridge.

England haven't taken any risks, it's just been smart batting. Everything that encapsulates this team when they play well I think they've done here. They really are in a fantastic position in this game.

  3. Eng 166-1published at 28 overs

A tight over from Nathan Smith with just a single off it as New Zealand try to tighten things up.

It's felt controlled from this partnership. After that one drop that has cost New Zealand badly, England have been in absolute control and New Zealand have been powerless in stopping them scoring.

  5. Eng 164-1published at 27 overs

Still digesting that Ireland news as Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell milk a couple more singles off Mitchell Santner.

    • 88 balls vs New Zealand, 2026 (today)
    • 100 balls vs Zimbabwe, 2025
    • 105 balls vs Pakistan, 2022
    • 106 balls vs Ireland, 2023

This is Duckett's joint-fastest Test century.

Relief for Ben Duckett. When you go through those lean spells, a hundred seems a long way off. He's gone back to his game, attacked from the off and had control in that attack. He knows his job is only half done.

A historic cricketing occasion at Stormont!

Ireland have beaten India for the first time in international cricket, winning by 34 runs in the first T20.

    Pretty comfortable really!

Century for Duckettpublished at 26.1 overs

Ben Duckett leans forward and flicks Mitchell Santner into the leg side for single to bank a Test century off 88 balls.

There's almost a relief in his celebration after what has been a testing period for the Nottinghamshire opener.

    Well batted.

There looked to be a lot of activity outside the New Zealand changing room during the drinks break. Zak Foulkes had his whites on. I wouldn't be surprised if he replaces Blair Tickner, who is off with dizzyness and was clocked on the helmet by a bouncer while batting.

  11. Eng 161-1published at 25.5 overs

Short from Will O'Rourke and Ben Duckett pulls it round the corner for four. The England opener moves on to 98 and then takes a single off the penultimate ball of the over.

It felt unlikely that that was ever going to be overturned.

Way too high. Ben Duckett is still there.

  15. New Zealand reviewpublished at 25.1 overs

Will O'Rourke hits Ben Duckett on the thigh pad as he attempts to work it to leg rather ungainly.

    Given not out.

    England going strongly.

Jacob Bethell unbeaten on 50 off 62 balls while Ben Duckett is 93 not off 83 balls.

Mitchell Santner's six overs have cost 43 so far.

Has Bethell banished the first-innings blues?
