For me, Gus Atkinson was the best bowler yesterday.

  2. NZ 392-4published at 94 overs

You'll be pleased, Steve. Gus Atkinson into the attack.

Daryl Mitchell picks up a single leaving Will O'Rourke to fend off the remainder of the over.

O'Rouke is now up to 19 which eclipses his first-class best of 17*.

This pace bowling attack looks very samey to me. Gus Atkinson is the pick but I think England would benefit from more variety, and maybe a credible spinner.

    Steve, Stoke

Amazingly, the nick off Jamie Smith's gloves went straight into Joe Root's hands, it makes it look a lot worse for Root. I think Smith has lined up wrong there.

  5. NZ 391-4published at 93 overs

Jamie Smith had transferred his weight to his left foot before diving to his right which perhaps meant he was slightly off kilter with his glovework.

It looked like Joe Root's catch to me.

  6. dropped catch

    Two chances.

Will O'Rouke plays a flashy drive to Ben Stokes but with his feet stuck in the crease and the ball flies beyond the diving Jacob Bethell at gully for four.

Next delivery Stokes draws a genuine edge to first slip but Jamie Smith dives in front of Joe Root and spills the chance.

Josh Tongue has targeted the stumps but pivots to a fifth stump line to Will O'Rourke and the Kiwi edges between a solitary wide-ish slip and gully to notch another four.

Ben Stokes decides to bring himself into the attack.

England need to find two quality spinners. I'm surprised that Joe Root didn't bowl more overs, he does have over 100 first class wickets.

    Paul, Dorset

  10. NZ 382-4published at 91 overs

Early signs are this could be a long day for England.

Will O'Rourke picks up a single off Jofra Archer after working it fine.

Josh Tongue is really targeting the stumps and the pads.

  12. NZ 381-4published at 90 overs

Josh Tongue, neatly trimmed stubble, continues to bowl full and earns a maiden seen off by a watchful Daryl Mitchell.

Jofra Archer has been bowling a touch faster with the second new ball than at the start of the innings. Not only has his speed increased, but his accuracy has also got better. He is hitting 45% of his deliveries on a good line and length with the second new ball, compared to just 21% before the 80th over.

What a glorious shot from Will O'Rourke. He's on double figures.

  15. NZ 381-4published at 89 overs

Will O'Rouke picks up a couple of fours off Jofra Archer.

The first is a curious shot as he seems caught in two minds whether to leave or play and ends up with a dab which runs through the perennially vacant third region.

Later in the over, O'Rourke is much more decisive with an appreciable square drive for four.

It feels as though this first hour will set up the day if England can remove Will O'Rourke or Daryl Mitchell.

The crowd are still making their way into Trent Bridge. Plenty of people fanning themselves.

Will O'Rouke digs out a yorker from Josh Tongue which squirts to point and allows him to pick up a couple to get off the mark.

O'Rourke plays a drive down the wrong line to the penultimate ball of the over which has Jamie Smith oohing and ahhing.

  18. NZ 370-4published at 87 overs

Ben Stokes encouragingly claps Jofra Archer.

The England quick responds with a maiden over, albeit the majority of it is a little too short and does not cause Daryl Mitchell too much alarm.
