Surrey fans will know about the man currently 85 not out on debut, but he's so new to the scene that his image on the Oval scoreboard is represented by the Surrey crest.

    So, new readers start here.

Thomas, 19, has played 10 List A games, making his debut against Essex at Chelmsford in the One-Day Cup in August 2024, shortly after his 18th birthday.

He made a name for himself last August with a devastating One-Day Cup innings against Derbyshire.

Opening with Rory Burns, he hit 17 fours and five sixes in an innings of 162 from 149 balls.

He's only scored 75 from his other 9 innings, though.

Thomas is also an England Under-19 international.

  2. 'A good delivery by Zain ul Hassan'published at 15:18 BST 3 May

    Hants 193-9 v Glam 536-7

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Zain ul Hassan has done it again and it's Codi Yusuf who has gone for 18. That's another lbw in this innings.

That ball darted back, it was a good delivery.

  3. 'Yorkshire starring down the barrel'published at 15:15 BST 3 May

Yorks 214-5, lead Somerset by 102 runs

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

Yorkshire are staring down the barrel even with James Wharton going as well as he is. They've still got one or two people who can play, though, and George Hill is one of them.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:15 BST 3 May

    Yusuf lbw b ul-Hassan 18 (Hants 193-9 v Glam 536-7

A partnership of 43 with Ben Mayes comes to an end as Zain-ul-Hassan beats the defences of Codi Yusuf.

The Hampshire batter does not seem to enamoured of the decision maybe suggesting he was too far across his stumps.

But it looks as though it has beaten bat and front pad and his his back pad in which case it had no distance to travel to the stumps.

    Somerset 274 v Yorkshire 162 & 214-5 (Yorks lead by 102)

Yorkshire will be happy with a lead of 200, but that is a long way away now. White Rose praying for rain?

    Charles - Devon

  6. Division Two latestpublished at 15:10 BST 3 May

Kent have taken their lead over Derbyshire to 211 at Canterbury, helped by an unbeaten half-century from keeper Chris Benjamin.

Kent are 163-6 having been 55-5 at one stage this morning.

Worcestershire have already lost a wicket in their second innings at Northants - Ben Sanderson bowled Jake Libby to leave them 5-1. They still need 286 to avoid an innings defeat.

WICKETpublished at 15:09 BST 3 May

    Revis c J. Rew b Pretorius 1 (Yorks 214-5, lead Somerset by 102 runs)

Another one for Migael Pretorius, who gets a back of a length delivery into the right area and Revis tentatively prods forward. The ball takes the outside edge and James Rew completes the catch.

WICKETpublished at 15:08 BST 3 May

    Weatherald c Verreynne b James 38 (308 & 104-2 v Notts 490)

Lyndon James has the other opener now as Jake Weatherald fends a rising ball up in the air and Kyle Verreynne takes a simple grab behind the stumps.

The good work that the opening pair Rishi Patel and Weatherald has been undone inside five balls from James who has found a decent rhythm.

Notts tails are up again and the Foxes are still trailing by 78 runs.

  9. 'Patel will be disappointed'published at 15:07 BST 3 May

    Leics 308 & 99-1 f/o v Notts 490

    Richard Rae
    BBC Radio Leicester Sport

Rishi Patel left the field with head down.

Although he's had such a good start to the season, he'll be so disappointed he wasn't able to go on.

It's been a really good start for him but just that one big century, but it was well bowled.

  10. 500 up for Surreypublished at 15:03 BST 3 May

    Surrey 510-7 v Sussex 358-9 dec

Adam Thomas takes a couple more off Fynn Hudson-Prentice to move him on to 61 and Surrey to 500.

    The lead is 152.

  11. 'Somerset will be feeling relieved'published at 15:03 BST 3 May

Yorks 212-4, lead Somerset by 100 runs

    Annie Chave
    BBC Somerset

There was a huge cheer in the crowd and on the field. They know just how important that Jonny Bairstow wicket it.

Somerset will be feeling a lot relieved having got rid of the big guns, Joe Root and Bairstow.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:01 BST 3 May

    Patel c Patterson-White b James 53 (Leics 308 & 99-1 f/o v Notts 490)

Two balls after reaching his half century he gets a virtually unplayable ball from Lyndon James which straightens and leaves him.

Patel does his best to get in line but edges and the nick flies to Liam Patterson-White at first slip.

Nothing much he could have done about that.

    Jonathan Doidge

Not what the doctor ordered for Yorkshire when they just got a 100 lead.

50 for Rishi Patelpublished at 14:59 BST 3 May

    Leics 308 & 99-1 (f/o) v Notts 490

WICKETpublished at 14:58 BST 3 May

Bairstow c Thomas b Pretorius 18 (Yorks 212-4, lead Somerset by 100 runs)

    Big wicket, this, for Somerset.

It's not great batting from Jonny Bairstow. Migael Pretorius bowls a wide one which Bairstow tries to cut but manages to top edge to Josh Thomas at third man.

    Northants 597-7 dec v Worcs 306

What a moment for Adam Thomas - 50 on debut.

He gets to 49 with a glorious on drive off Tom Haines that is beautifully timed, and then he reaches the first landmark of his career by working the ball into the off side for two more.

After taking 11 balls to get his first run, Thomas has looked very well organised, unruffled and in control.

  20. 100 runs

    Northants 582-6 v Worcs 306

Northants wicketkeeper Lewis McManus becomes the third century-maker of this mammoth innings.

Worcestershire are being ground into the dust by the home batters. Northants lead by 276 and a declaration is surely on the cards around tea time?
