  1. 50 runs

for James Whartonpublished at 14:10 BST 3 May

Yorks 156-2 (lead Somerset by 44 runs)

James Wharton goes to 50 - but was almost out in the process.

He goes after a short and wide one and gets a thick top edge towards third man, but he's relieved to see the ball squirm past the full-length forward dive of Thomas Rew and go to the rope.

  2. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 14:08 BST 3 May

    Kent 352 & 132-6 v Derbyshire 304

There is a delay after lunch at Canterbury as a sharp shower moves through.

Kent lead by exactly 180. What can they push that to with their remaining four wickets?

  3. 6 runs

Six more for Sibleypublished at 14:05 BST 3 May

    Surrey 432-5 v Sussex 358-9 dec

Dom Sibley has done it again! He whips Jack Carson high over mid-wicket and it beats the despairing leap of Jack Leaning on the rope.

That's a third six of the day from Sibley. The 30th of his first-class career.

That's 10 per cent of his career maximums in a matter of hours.

    Organ lbw b van der Gugten 4 (Hants 137-6 v Glam 536-7d)

Timm van der Gugten went close with an lbw shout moments before which was turned down but he has his man now and Felix Organ looks plumb.

  5. 50 partnershippublished at 14:02 BST 3 May

    Surrey 426-5 v Sussex 358-9 dec

Adam Thomas is looking good on his first-class debut. He has now shared in a 50 stand with Dom Sibley and is on 28 from 67 deliveries.

    Sibley has 170 from 364.

  6. 100 partnershippublished at 13:59 BST 3 May

Yorks 143-2 (lead Somerset by 31 run)

The stand between James Wharton and Joe Root goes to 100. It's the stand Yorkshire desperately needed after losing both openers early.

The floodlights are on. Lewis Gregory is into the attack, and testing the outside edge.

You've got to love early-season county cricket.

  7. 'A fine 50 by an incredible player'published at 13:59 BST 3 May

Archie Vaughan there just misfielding and kicking the turf but a fine 50 by an incredible player. The like of which you do not see very often.

A second innings in the County Championship this season for Joe Root, and a second half-century.

Having made 96 against Sussex last time out, the England lynchpin reaches another 50 with a single just after lunch.

It's not without an alarm, first though - a big appeal when he was 49, but there may have been two noises and it looked just outside the line of off stump as well.

Root has now made a half century or better in each of his last six matches in all formats - 160 against Australia in the fifth Ashes Test; 61, 75 and 111 not out in the three one-day internationals against Sri Lanka, and the two Championship scores this season.

  9. Play resumes at The Ovalpublished at 13:56 BST 3 May

    Surrey 419-5 v Sussex 358-9 dec

James Coles bowls the first over after lunch and Dom Sibley is immediately back amongst it, with a single to take him to 168.

Between them, Sibley and Adam Thomas take six from the over.

  10. Play resumes at Tauntonpublished at 13:53 BST 3 May

Yorks 140-2 (lead Somerset by 28 runs)

Craig Overton has ball in hand. Joe Root is on 49.

    Let's play.

  11. Notts enforce follow-onpublished at 13:47 BST 3 May

    Leics 308 & 0-0 v Notts 490

As expected Haseeb Hameed has enforced the follow-on and the Leics openers Rishi Patel and Jake Weatherald are back out after lunch.

  12. 'Sibley knock has been chanceless'published at 13:39 BST 3 May

Surrey 413-5 v Sussex 358-9 dec - lunch, day three

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Radio Sussex

An entertaining morning at The Oval with Surrey building a useful lead of 55 scoring 121 runs in the session.

Dom Sibley has led the way his chanceless 167 off 360 balls mixing solid defence with attacking intent twice lifting off-spinner Jack Carson back over his head for six.

But Carson had his revenge with both Dan Lawrence and Jamie Smith both attempting the same shot but failing in execution.

In Smith's case having watched Ollie Robinson move back to the boundary at log off he proceeded to hit the ball straight to the Sussex skipper, who could scarcely believe his luck.

  13. 'Crane wicket was always going to happen'published at 13:26 BST 3 May

Hants 132-5 v Glamorgan 536-7 dec - lunch, day three

It was always going to happen.

It took just four balls for the returning Mason Crane to pick up his first Hampshire wicket, that of the impressive Tom Prest (45).

Then for good measure just seven balls later he picked up Ben Brown (1) on the stroke of lunch.

Crane was a popular figure during his time on the south coast but it was difficult to select him regularly as the second spinner behind Liam Dawson.

When he got it right he was always a threat when other bowlers struggled to make breakthroughs.

Judging by just the 11 balls he’s sent down so far he looks a threat once more.

  15. Lunch at Southamptonpublished at 13:19 BST 3 May

    Hants 132-5 v Glam 536-7d

Two wickets in eight deliveries from former England man Mason Crane has left Hants teetering as they go into lunch.

Both Tom Prest and Ben Brown were undone by a significant bit of turn from the leggie who spent nine years at Hants before moving on in 2024.

Significantly it leaves his former county trailing by 404 with just five first innings wickets remaining.

Plenty to talk about over lunch.

Dom Sibley celebrates scoring 150Image source, Shutterstock

An intriguing morning comes to a close in south London.

Dom Sibley remains imperious on 167 not out, including - hold on to your hats - two sixes. He's also passed 10,000 first-class runs in the process.

Sussex have taken three wickets, with Ollie Pope and Jamie Smith both falling to horrible shots. Dan Lawrence was guilty of trying one attacking shot too many as Surrey targeted an additional bonus batting point.

In the end, they couldn't make 400 before the 110th over, and have calmed down since then, with first-class debutant Adam Thomas unbeaten on 18.

Jack Carson took two wickets and has bowled nicely, while Ollie Robinson and Henry Crocombe look lively.

    Emilio Gay battingImage source, Shutterstock

Durham's Emilio Gay goes to lunch at Lord's unbeaten on 115. Batting partner David Bedingham has 67 and Durham are extremely well placed on 256-2 in reply to Middlesex's 430 all out.

Northants have enjoyed a fine first session against Worcestershire, losing only one wicket, to move to 458-6. James Sales is 79 not out and his side now lead by 152.

Kent have recovered well from 55-5 to reach 132-6 against Derbyshire. They're 180 in front with Chris Benjamin 38 not out.

  18. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:15 BST 3 May

Yorks 140-2 (lead Somerset by 28 runs)

Josh Thomas comes on for the final over of the session, and only his second over in first-class cricket.

Joe Root works him for a single off the first ball, taking him to 49, but Thomas tests the defences of James Wharton, who is very watchful and sees out the final five.

Yorkshire effectively 28-2 at lunch on day three.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:14 BST 3 May

    Brown c Ingram b Crane 1 (Hants 132-5 v Glam 536-7d)

Another blow on the stroke of lunch leaves Hants in trouble.

Ben Brown is looking to defend but, like Tom Prest in the previous over from Crane, is undone by the turn.

This one takes an edge and flies low to Colin Ingram who juggles it and grabs at the second attempt.

  20. Lunch at Uptonsteel Grace Roadpublished at 13:13 BST 3 May

    Leics 308 v Notts 480

A good effort from Leics given how much ground they conceded at one stage and stubborn rearguard from Stephen Eskinazi (100), Ajaz Patel (62) and Josh Hull (7* from 42 balls).

Notts have a decision to make about whether to put Leics back in but they have 40 minutes to make it as lunch is served.
