  1. Eng 95-1published at 21 overs

    Target 272

It's been a while since England have had a boundary.

But they wouldn't be too bothered about it if they continue to add to their total like this, as another five runs come from that Jeffrey Vandersay over.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, desperately need a wicket here.

  2. Eng 90-1published at 20 overs

    Target 272

Dhananjaya de Silva wrests back some control for Sri Lanka, giving away just two runs from his over.

Joe Root goes in search of the boundary off the final delivery but his reverse sweep only finds the fielder at backward point.

This would have been a brilliant opportunity to get Bashir some cricket, he would have turned it square on these pitches

A healthy over for England again.

A couple of singles, a two and a four in leg byes after Dunith Wellalage gets some sharp turn off the surface.

The required run rate is hovering just below six for the tourists.

Jamie Overton for England captain. Such a canny all-rounder, far superior to the clique of Root and Buttler... Who agrees?

    Eng 74-1

Time for a drinks break now.

It hasn't been very convincing but England seem to be building something here with Joe Root and Ben Duckett in the middle.

  8. Eng 71-1published at 16 overs

    Finally!

Ben Duckett manages to find a boundary at long last - and then another one comes along two balls later.

He sweeps Charith Asalanka's fourth delivery for his third boundary of the day and then wraps up the over with another - one bounce over the rope at mid-on this time.

Lirush Chandrakumar (13:42) Remind me any time Livingstone actually performed for England? Great in domestic cricket never lived up to the hype at international level.

Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka goes through his second over, conceding just three.

There's a loud appeal for lbw against Joe Root but in vain as Asalanka decides not to appeal, pointing to his wrist to signal to Kusal Mendis that Root's glove might have been involved.

This is such a difficult time for Duckett but fair play he’s still there.

And I’m getting ahead of myself with Root but he’s playing so far the ideal knock.

  15. Eng 56-1published at 13 overs

While Ben Duckett has his struggles, it's business as usual for Joe Root at the other end.

He moves to 31 from 34 balls, adding another boundary to his tally from Dunith Wellalage's over.

Ben Duckett, though, is yet to find any real rhythm out there.

But England will need him firing sooner rather than later if they’re to keep this chase on track.

This is Duckett's best format. His refusal to leave the ball and aggressive mindset should be ideal here, along with his good sweeping and general playing of spin.
